  1. The legend of Santa Claus can be traced back hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. It is believed that Nicholas was born "sometime" around A.D. 280 in Patara, near Myra in modern-day Turkey. Hardly what Christians claim to be the modern Santa Claus. Today, no one knows him as the protector of sailors.
  2. Yes, dogs go woof. Flight or fight is perhaps passed down. As there is no word heritaged in the dictionary, I guess my English is pretty good and I understand when someone doesn't know science.
  3. Of course, without evidence of God, we cannot believe in him/her/it.
  4. Generic memory goes as far as basic reflexes, not a whole religion. Fight or flight is a generic memory for instance. Neuroscientific research on mice suggests that some experiences can influence subsequent generations. In a 2013 study, mice trained to fear a specific smell passed on their trained aversion to their descendants, which were then extremely sensitive and fearful of the same smell, even though they had never encountered it, nor been trained to fear it. Changes in brain structure were also found. The researchers concluded that "the experiences of a parent, even before conceiving, markedly influence both structure and function in the nervous system of subsequent generations" Scientists speculate that similar genetic mechanisms could be linked with phobias, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorders, as well as other neuropsychiatric disorders, in humans. All of which goes to show that you aren't born with a complete religious belief. You are born with curiosity and may self educate about a religion. However, having read the Bible there is no way i believe in a god or any religion based on such easy to disprove writing.
  5. I fear you are now making things up. All of this has been debated and Santa does not exist. However, children with cancer do exist, thus eliminating the concept of a living, all powerful and merciful God.
  6. Yes, you are correct. Section 1469 (laws governing property between husband and wife) does apply and when you would divorce the usufruct could be simply terminated by a court as part of the division of assets. So the property would be divided as the norm in divorce cases.
  7. It would appear the only preparation needed initially is to agree to the act and ensure that the RTP and military are aware of the law. Cameras and other equipment could be installed over a predetermined period. Stalling for time implies agreeing to allow torture to continue.
  8. I also don't believe in Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy.
  9. Rubbish. New born kids know nothing. Superstition comes by listening to others.
  10. Maybe better to say whatever your parents' religion, so shall you be. Every child is born atheist.
  11. People i know are working from home more and that seems to work. With Kpi goals in place it that is.
  12. Park in Suan Rot Fai (Railway Park}. Inexpensive and can walk to the market.
  13. I thought it was ilegal to cut someone's salary as a punishment? The labor court will be interested.
  14. The casting couch is a long-known tradition in Hollywood going back to 1937. It does look like it isn't going to end soon.
  15. How thoughtful of God to arrange matters so that, wherever you happen to be born, the local religion always turns out to be the true one. - Richard Dawkins
  16. Having driven motorcycles in London and Bangkok, I often think London is more dangerous because of the ridiculous speeds those London bikers reach accelerating in between traffic lights. Just a guess, but it looks doubtful the westerners who rent bikes here have ever ridden one before.
  17. I just do not agree with blaming the woman, whose character you don't know, for her husband's philandering. He could just be selfish person who wants to think that a young woman finds him attractive (if we want to play the guessing game). I doubt anyone thinks of Thailand first as the answer to marriage problems. He could go to the pub, go to visit a mate or just go to another room and read a book. He is just asking to get ripped off for his hubris. I hope Julie screws him for everything. And no, I am not a woman.
  18. It is good there are punishments when a higher-up is caught red-handed. Bhumjaithai Party is close to Thaksin so I guess that is another reason.
  19. Am puzzled, why do people think they can hide in Thailand? Is it possible when hotels update the police who is staying, overstay or not? Passports are needed for so many things here. Renting a room without identity must be hard. I really don't understand how they expect to stay anonymous.
  20. I feel sorry for her. It looks like she can't understand or absorb what is happening. So many balding, fat old wrinkled men come to Thailand and are taken in by Thai girls as young, or younger, than their granddaughters. Julie has been thrown on the scrapheap by someone who is her own age and perhaps because she just doesn't look like she did 48 years ago. She should hire a Thai detective to take incriminating pictures and clean out her old man's bank account (if she has access), sell the house and move into a flat. He deserves everything coming to him. ????
  21. Prosecution Lawyer to fetus: "And were you at the scene of the crime?" Fetus: "Yes, but I was an unwilling accomplice." Lawyer: "But you don't deny being there?" Fetus: "No, but I didn't see anything." Lawyer: "How could you not see anything? You were right on the spot." Defense lawyer: "Objection Your Honor, he or she doesn't have eyes yet." Judge: "Sustained."
  22. They should have an easy to remember team name. How about International Rescue?
  23. I did not cry when my mother died. She had stopped suffering so I felt less upset than watching the cancer torture her. My father was buried and the thought of those worms burrowing into his body made me queasy. Dad came to Thailand once and there was a funeral we passed by with music playing and some dancing. He thought it was disrespectful too but I thought the person is dead and will be reborn so that is a reason for good cheer.
  24. No, I mean the floaters appeared after the cataract operation. It was a surprise. I didn't know to expect it.
