  1. Things will continue but the RTP won't extort money from the girls. I guess the pubs will still be guilty of human trafficking though.
  2. Usually the more people want to fly the more competition from airlines and the lower the prices. This is just profiteering. As soon as people say it's too expensive but not coming to Thailand, prices must drop or risk offering cheaper competitors the advantage.
  3. Chuvit had done a service to Thais regarding his whistleblowing. I am a bit suspicious of the anti weed drive as both he and his daughter attended Californian universities and i guess did not inhale while walking in the dorms.
  4. Not sure why the money wasn't buried in a waterproof container in a field somewhere. Its as if he wanted to be caught.
  5. There used to be a slogan, "Don't Drive Drunk", which played a bit with semantics in that it didn't ask people to NOT drink but rather not to drive if drunk (plastered, I suspect). Now they seem a little more serious about the language but probably not so much about the arrests.
  6. Oh course the USA would never have nuclear submarines near China.
  7. A completely invisible propeller system. Not one photo has shown propellers.
  8. I remember well that my mother got cancer and her private health insurance refused to pay for treatment. Not something to forget.
  9. I cannot imagine how the conversation with the PM went with the TAT. PM: "We need more money from those pesky foreign tourists to support the economy." TAT: "So true sir. We are doing our best. Rest assured that..." PM: "So I have decided to bring the number of days for visa exempt from 45 to 30 days in order to get rid of those blooming foreigners faster." TAT: "Wait, what???" PM: "Yes, your job will be to keep the revenue up without us having foreigners here causing all the crime." TAT: "Isn't this cutting off our nose to spite our face, sir?" PM: "Stop sympathizing with the foreign devils and squeeze more money out of them in 30 days. Maybe double national park entrance fees." ????
  10. I still haven't figured out how the balloons were steered over military targets. No engines means they were at the mercy of winds.
  11. Going off at a tangent for a minute, this is what people can expect if the British government puts healthcare in the hands of insurance companies - refusals to pay. Yes, I understand that one should look at the small print but a lot of people don't bother, thinking the insurance will take care of them and not understanding that insurers will look for every way to deny paying out.
  12. Am I the only one surprised to hear that Trump can, possibly, read?
  13. Amazing the effect on society and conversation.
  14. The old blame game isn't going to help. Clearly farmers in the North believe the old slash and burn method is best because there is no cheap alternative. How did other countries overcome this problem? What are alternative methods that are inexpensive? I assume other countries overcame the problem so why can't Thailand learn from them?
  15. A news article with more adjectives than you can shake a stick at, demonizing the Chinese. Nothing to worry about there. Amazing how they know who did it and unfortunately couldn't catch them. If the Chinese police catch them all well and good. let's wait to see what happens next.
  16. I sincerely do hope some humanitarian issue will prevent their return to the Land of Persecution. I am sure they don't mind where they go as long as it is not home. It is unfortunate their church is called the Mayflower however, as we all know how those christians from Europe dealt with the local population in the past.* *Connotations arising from the name doesn't mean they will do the same
  17. The awards should go to big and small films, commercial and independent. Independent directors win awards abroad that make Thailand look good. I saw Apichatpong Weerasethakul at a special screening of Blissfully Yours in Bangkok. It was banned by the government and commercial movie houses wouldn't release it to the general public but won Un Certain Regard at Cannes. He would never have won in Thailand and was unrecognized here. Later, after everyone else in the world screamed his name, the government recognized his PR value. This is a silly change of rules as someone must have said that a piffling local award must be compared with the Oscars. Change the rules back to "all can be considered."
  18. Usually a lay person would pay for the crane and the money from donations. Still not in the spirit of Buddhism to show off like this.
  19. I believe a royal pardon is only available to those in jail and can't be given without jail time. Someone here might know more.
  20. I read these harvesters are collecting lungs in the north of Thailand. The tourism sector there doesn't seem too active though.
  21. The number of people who vote for someone is neither here nor there in US Presidential elections. Democrats keep winning the majority of voters (the "popular vote") while the Republicans have fewer people voting for their candidate but win the all-important electoral college. Nothing to do with how the majority of people vote for someone. Just saying. But the Orange guy is unlikely to win this time.
  22. Japan and the EU populations declining so there won't be enough people to work. Could AI make up the difference?
  23. Why is Singapore's Changi airport so good at handling visitors? They sit at their counters and process passports swiftly. It seems that staff appear just as the contents of a plane is unloading and then disappear until the next plane. Why is the system so different and efficient?
