Several years ago I was talking to the mayor of one coastal town and asked why do you have bins on the road, 100 meters from the beach? Why not put them on the beach? He informed that the municipality owns the road area while the beach is owned by the state and controlled by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, which doesn't allow waste bins on the beach. In Thailand you are guilty until you prove your innocence. The fact that a military junta held a coup implies he would never have been allowed to prove anything and in fact risked military interference in the trial (as they have shown over time they are willing to do). If he is still working to do the time maybe under house arrest, good. The fact that he has been able to visit many countries (Japan for instance) without arrest implicitly implies they have doubts.

I agree that a very good lawyer will be helpful. A judge may feel bias towards a Thai but he will understand that he cannot ignore the wife's lies.
