I can't say re Laos costs and visa requirements.

Cambodia:  visa to enter will cost you $36 if you get it online (which saves a full page in your passport) and I think $30 if you do it on arrival. To get a new Thai visa, will need at least 3 working days (be sure to check the list of public holidays). Tourist visa supposedly requires a return flight booked, non-B doesn't. I don't know if you can get around this. There are many agents who will do the visa for you and only a $1 extra charge. Prices for the thai visas likley more or less the same in Laos and Cambodia.

Plenty of reasonably priced hotels. Not as many good foreign food restaurants as pre-COVID but still some, and good prices. You can enter by land or by air, but land entry entails then a long ride to reach Phnom Penh, really not worth it IMO except for those traveling to Siem Reap/Angkor Wat.

I suspect Laos overall will be cheaper but wait for someone who has actual figures.

    lots of helpful info, thanks

  2. I'm planning a trip home to the UK which could be for up to a year

One thing of concern is the medicine I've been taking here for the past 5 years. I take diazepam, tramadol and gabapentin on a daily basis for various types of pain. These 3 drugs are all class C controlled medicines in the UK.

The diazepam is prescribed and i've kept every packet since starting, but the tramadol and gabapentin are bought over the counter without prescription. My prescription history in the UK should show diazepam.

What's the best approach to this? I've thought about going to separate hospitals to get 1-3 month supplies, or would it be better to bite the bullet and see a doctor in the UK and get them? This could be a long wait to see a GP and a possibility of them saying no..

In his OP he said the electric bill was direct bill from PEA but the water bill was not and came from the condo offices. My guess is he is billed at the condo rate which most likely is an inflated rate compared to the PWA rate. Ask the condo office what the rate they charge is and what the condo meter reading was for that half month.

I lived in a condo that charged as much as 55 baht per unit of water. PWA rate is somewhere around 12 baht per unit.

This has turned out to be correct

Electric is government rate, water is a condo rate of 25 baht per unit

This seems to be the case

Took a photo of the water meter the past 3 consecutive days and haven’t seen any movement, something is off

Ive asked for meter readings but been told the woman is off on holidays until tomorrow
