  1. Perhaps they saw Kazakhstan's size on a world map and figured, if we can attract 10 million Chinese, then probably we can get millions of tourists and a lot of money from Kazakhstan too... But if it doesn't work out, we can always make it easier for, potentially, millions of people from the DR Congo, Mongolia, or Greenland to come to Thailand...
  2. I think they have in the past 6 to 12 months.
  3. Never mind the corruption. But also the large number of governments (more than 50), constitutions (20), and military coups (22) in the past ninety years, which is notoriously unstable, even in comparison with most other countries in Asia.
  4. My bet is on an 'exit tax'; you want to leave the country - pay 20% of your declared funds in Thailand first...
  5. Still not clear, whether: 1. They intend to tax a second time already (in other countries) taxed income, and 2. What they define as 'income' (e.g. will they just slap a tax on all incoming funds, or not)? 3. If 2.) how to claim back such a tax if one doesn't have income in Thailand.
  6. They probably just copied one of the first pics on Google Search... Lower national park fees are the last thing I worry about residing in Thailand. Visa issues, immigration matters, scams, overcharging in daily life, etc., are way more important issues.
  7. Not to worry, Thailand is aiming for some of what's left of your, already taxed, income...
  8. Yes, if the prime minister is worried about "chronic inequality", he could do a lot against it addressing such inequality in country, rather than trying to screw a few expat pensioners...
  9. So, Thailand scams only exist in a movie?? Yeah, right... When will Thais learn that tourists avoid places and countries where scams and ripp-offs are rampant?
  10. Even the government seems to believe that 'money comes from the bank'. If everyone just gets bank loans whenever they need more money, why not the government? The banks have it after all...
  11. Thailand said: "Cannot... But will you (Microsoft) come here with big money and invest?"
  12. Don't get it. There must be a reason why this thread has 43 pages (and there are numerous media posts elsewhere). Don't you think that there will be more news about this next year?
  13. Possible. And I will look for greener pastures, just in case... (It's a big world out there.)
  14. No kidding. I can't wait reading the reports here in January and February...
  15. I brought in cash, and withdrew from ATMs. Most of the ATM slips' ink is faded by now. Mission Impossible...
  16. Have you tried Google? Most info seems to be in Thai.
  17. Yes, of course. Doing all the paperwork with Thai forms, any requested forms from the home country, translated into Thai, etc., will be the fund owner's responsibility. It will be a bonanza for Thai tax accountants and translation services.
  18. And this may very well be the outcome, with banks automatically deducting a tax rate upon receiving funds from abroad...
  19. Imagine the banks had to figure that out, before withholding ...% from international transfers to Thailand! Will be interesting to watch early next year.
  20. And just the other day we read that the "Chinese aren't coming in large numbers because there aren't enough flights"...
  21. The puppet master (still unofficially for now) taking over from the puppet...
  22. No, I don't. But I started a few times in my life from scratch. So, I'm not that worried.
