  1. Wonder, if they know at the TAT how to search on Google. Then they would know that the total population of Hong Kong (incl. toddlers and grannies) is less than 7.5 million... - How do they plan to lure 1 out of seven to Thailand? (They do have shrimps in Hong Kong, so offering free shrimp cocktails won't be enough...) What's next, '1 million tourists from both, Macau, and Bhutan'?
  2. And yet, every other day we read that Thailand needs even stronger ties, and be more dependent on China in, basically, everything...
  3. Someone once said: "Oftentimes a people deserves its governments." - In the case of Thailand this is probably true...
  4. Yes, running a party (and, indirectly, government) is much easier from a hospital than from a prison. What's going on is so predictable...
  5. Not to worry. Prosperity is just around the corner...
  6. I don't care. I know that Thais only care about money. Many Thais cannot figure out whether I'm rich or poor. Even my ex-girlfriend never figured out how much money I had. People who treat me as an ATM won't enjoy my company for long.
  7. A few years ago I flew with Thai Airways from Hong Kong (boarding in China) to Bangkok. I was asked for a return ticket, for which I had no need. I told them that I had half a million baht in different currencies on me, which satisfied them.
  8. Maybe. I was stopped by IOs three times just before the pandemic, but the question of having 20,000 baht on me never came up. If they really want to refuse you, they won't even look at the money, even if you carried 20,000 dollars in a briefcase with you.
  9. Reportedly, yes, it can be in a major currency. However, having travelled in and out of Thailand over the past 26 years, I have neither been asked about how much cash I carry on me, nor seen that anyone has. If, upon arrival, one IO thinks that you have been here 'too often, or too long', they won't care about the 20,000 baht anyway...
  10. Yes, many Arabs in lower Sukhumvit, esp. Soi 3 and nearby even 20 odd years ago. Nothing new. Same for the MBK.
  11. With nightlife venues closing down, or being forced to close early, perhaps they feel more reminded of home now...
  12. Probably not worth to remember that guy's name...
  13. They just need to buy the software their overlords up north use to block FB, X (Twitter), Instagram, Google/YouTube, etc. However, I doubt that they would be as good as the CCP in keeping ahead of VPNs and proxy servers...
  14. Who cares? They would make an exception for him anyway. Money talks, particularly in Thailand...
  15. They had to put him in the slammer for one or two nights to save face... He'll take over from the puppet elected today soon.
  16. Beats giving your people an adequate education, and encouraging critical and independent thinking at school and in society... No need to waste money to adapt education to the 21st century. Good plan, Minister!* *This post may or may not include sarcasm!
  17. Who would have guessed that the optimistic predictions wouldn't be met... And yes, relying on China in regards to exports and tourism income doesn't bode well in the foreseeable future.
  18. Well, I think it was mentioned that rice farmers get paid more for their rice now, so why would they be 'concerned' then...
  19. Yes. And why higher rice prices are a concern for rice farmers, who knows... -They will have to think of new ways to spend the higher income??
  20. Always when I check my weather app, or read the news online, it says '(heavy) rain every day', but in reality there is either no rain, or only brief drizzle rain... It is cloudy, though, but there isn't as much rain as forcast.
  21. I leave the big tips (and money transfers to the bargirls) to the tourists...
  22. Must be a bit like the "Barbie" movie in the beginning. (Didn't see it, but read a review.) - Barbies in control, doing everything, and Kens just hanging out, doing nothing... Reminded me of Thailand, LOL.
  23. LOL. How do I know about her heart? But yes, efficient and good service deserves tipping. Depends on my order, though. If I ordered for, say, 120 baht, no way I'd tip 30 baht. Anyone who tips more than 10 to 15% is in my eyes either a sucker, or filthy rich, and I'm neither.
  24. Reportedly, Thailand, together with Vietnam and India, is profiting from capital flight out of China.
