There is nothing wrong with immigrants as long as they come in through the right channels and are vetted , their criminal background checked and they have a grasp of the language of the country that they are apllying to enter.In other words legally.

I'm not sure if they still have it but if you had a long stopover in transit at Changi Airport you could take a a free city bus tour for about 2 hours and you stayed on the bus. Before you went the immigration collected everybody's passport and you got it back when you returned.

Qantas doesn't have a standard procedure for anything. They would be the worst airline in the world. Their planes are on average 20+ years old , the cabin crew are lazy and arrogent and the food is sh@t . I only fly with them when I have to but the worst thing about them is the planes are nearly always late or they cancel them at short notice and there is no communication what so ever and you are on your own so what happened at bkk airport does not surprise me one bit.

Criky old mate I note that you joined this site on December 15th. 2013 that's nearly 12 years ago and if you were with him why didn't you give him some friendly advice so he wouldn't have got into this mess or are you just as dumb as him and haven't learnt anything about bar culture in nearly 12 years in thailand ??

The poor guy was carted into hospital in a coma with brain damage so it would be a bit hard for him to fill in the claim form so they would have to pay the claim surely. I don't know if they would pay if it was a suicide attempt.

From my experience the travel agents only try to sell you their travel policies but dont really explain why you need it and when you decline that's it . Maybe for the younger ones they could spend a bit of time to show them some case histories to make them consider to take it out.

The thing is that at 29 like all at that age think they are bullet proof and never get sick . Not gonna have a stroke or heart attack and getting travel / medical insurance would be the last thing on their mind as they book their overseas holiday and when something happens they rely on everyone to help them.I woner if the travel agents should advise them better when they book.

It doesn't only happen in laos . About 15 years ago I met a girl in a bar in Pnom Penh with a tragic story to tell . Her mother sold her to an American bloke for $500 and he took her to the states at age 12. Three years later she managed to escape to a refuge and they sent her back home and as expected she wanted nothing to do with her lovely mother so she got a job in a clothing factory and later in the bar. As expected she was mixed up in the head but she was a lovely girl so the next day my mate and I hired a taxi ($15 US ) for the day and took her and her friend on a sightseeing tour for the day which finished up at a very local place on the river where they caught and killed the chickens before bbq ing them.It topped off a good but sad day.I often wonder what become of her.

That is exactly my theory just look away and ignore it just as I do when I see a 4 year old girl selling flowers around the bars at 1am .
