  1. Actually if you didn't need to show lease, you don't need to pay anything. I kind of remember that I didn't have residency certificate, so I showed them the lease. But all this was a long time ago well before Covid. But by the book every landlord is supposed to stick those tax stamps on a lease, but noone does. So when they see a lease without tax stamps, they stick them on and then you pay what supposedly the landlord has to pay. Probably when you have a residency cert they don't ask for a lease.
  2. You go to the tax office and say you want a tax id. If they ask why, then you say you want to get back withholding tax from fixed deposit account. Bring signed lease, passport, and I think tm30 and resident certificate (not sure about the last 2). Be prepared to pay a little bit for them to validate signed lease by sticking tax stamps on the lease, which I am sure your landlord forgot.
  3. So who is right: @CallumWK (Thai citizen online only) or @sometimewoodworker ("No, that isn’t required, you may be able to get 1.5%") ????
  4. @sometimewoodworker Oh wow, 0.9% were a little bit disappointing. 1.5% sounds much better. I have a Krungsri savings account. Can I just apply for it in their app? EDIT: I just saw that there is a separate site where you can apply for Krungsri accounts: https://www.krungsrionline.com/BAY.KOL.WebSite/Common/cplus-app/how-to-apply-en.html And of course the big question is: Would CM immigration accept the online (I assume no passbook version) of this account for the 800k proof?
  5. Thank you for your kind replies. I just want access to my money even when I am not in Thailand and still get a reasonable interest on the account, no need to pay international bills. It's enough if I can transfer part of the 800k when I am overseas from the interest bearing account to my savings account. I thought the Mee Tae Dai account of Krungsri can only be opened with a Thai ID card?
  6. Hm, maybe some things I took for granted have changed in the last few years? I have savings and fixed deposit accounts. A few years ago, my bank (Bangkok Bank) told me that I have to appear in person with the bank book to transfer money out of the fixed deposit account. Has that changed now? Can I do it via the app? Or do some other banks allow to do this by the app, even when I am overseas? That would take care of what I want. I have just always been nervous that some day for whatever reason I cannot come or don't want to come back and then the money will not be available to me any more. So you mentioned SCB and LH Bank. SCB has given me a very bad experience in CM when I tried to open an account: I gave them the paperwork, they said they have to check back with their head office and will call me back, but it never happened. And when I visited them to ask about it, they said they have no record of any of this. So this incident has diminished my willingness to deal with them again. This is the first time I heard of LH Bank, and Google helped me to find out a little bit more about the Land and Houses Bank, though I would like to ask our members to share their experiences with them, particularly if they can give me a 1 year statement on the spot in Chiang Mai - which is something Bangkok Bank cannot and that is what I really loathe about them. Thanks for your comments. I hope to kindly hear more from you.
  7. Thank you very much. Just to recap: Of course @Pattaya57 is right, 45 days before Dec 15th is in Nov. So if I apply on November 10th f.e. (extension expiry is Dec 15th), then the 800k must be in the account by Sept 10th. Correct?
  8. Hello, could you recommend to me a bank account, that pays decent interest and where I have access to my 800k even when I am overseas? On my current interest bearing accounts, I have to come in person and transfer the money to my savings, before I can transfer it out or use it to pay bills. But I don't want to do that. Thanks for your advice.
  9. Hello, let's say my Non-O extension expires Dec 15th. I can apply up to 45 days early, so let's say I apply for my extension October 5th. Does the day where I need to have the 800k in my account differ depending on the day when I apply? Thanks for your help.
  10. Yes, I can order it from Lazada. It's already in my cart. My question was more related to the second part: under my name and then activate under a Thai friend's name And of course: can I upgrade any time from 99 to a bigger YEARLY plan?
  11. If I want to buy a Gomo 99 THB yearly, can I upgrade at any time to a bigger YEARLY plan. The monthly plan here changed from 149 to 259 THB, as far as I can see on their website. Can I order the SIM from Lazada under my name and then activate under a Thai friend's name?
  12. Just connecting it to the PC via USB may start FileTransfer on the phone so that she can see her file system on the PC and then transfer the data to the PC: If you have a simlar of identical phone, you can also connect a mouse and keyboard via USB hub to the phone. Then try it on the working phone first and write down the steps you need to take to get USB FileTransfer working - but usually it works out of the box - and then repeat the steps blindly on the broken phone, so that the phone shows up in the Windows file explorer. Also ask her to sign-in to her google account on her PC, maybe all her contact info and photos have been automatically synched before. Check the google contacts and check what is on her google drive. Also maybe MyPhoneExplorer can help her: https://www.fjsoft.at/en/Versions/ Install the software on your PC and connect your phone to the computer by usb. If she is lucky (depending on ADB debug settings) one can connect and sync/transfer the data from the phone. One can also remote control the phone like this. Also there is a file explorer in this software.
  13. If you do top-ups with Lazada, you can do up to 5 top-ups in one day of 10 THB each, which means you will get the full 10 baht as credit and an extension of validity by 30 days for each top-up. So 5 x 10 baht means 5 months validity. Then when you come back you use the credit to buy a data plan or make calls. This is the cheapest way to extend validity on AIS, and I think it works for the others too. On True you can also use your credit to buy extended validity: Extend validity up to 365 days (from TODAY ONLY!!) for 2THB/month: *934*30# 30 days extension 2 Baht *934*90# 90 days extension 6 Baht *934*180# 180 days extension 12 Baht This codes also work from overseas as long as you have enough credit. Some True plans give you free data when you top-up a certain amount in a 30 day period, f.e. my True Myanmar SIM gives me free 300MB/30 days + unlimited free Line, Viber & FB texts (only) for every 50 Baht top up.
  14. Hi, I just am going through the same decision process you are and made quite a bit of research in the last month. So I thought I share it with you. My criterias partially match with yours: esim (a must), good cams, bright screen for sunny SEA, smooth operation, 5G VoLTE and VoWiFi, NFC, long ownership. From my research I made a comparison for you on kimovil: https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/samsung-galaxy-a55-5g-8gb-256gb,xiaomi-13t,xiaomi-redmi-note-13-pro,xiaomi-redmi-note-13-pro-plus Kimovil gives you a good idea, but is not always correct in the details: f.e. both Redmis have esim, not just one as indicated by Kimovil So if you need a k.o. feature, make sure you read another review maybe on gsmarena to double check. I cannot speak for the Samsung A55, I only included it because it was mentioned here and it seems to have esim, though many phones in the lower midrange have not. My recommendations are ranked by my favors with some remarks, actually I just ordered the top model in the list today: Xiaomi 13T (has full always on display (AOD), 144mhz and super good display, best cameras in cooperation with famous German Leica lens/cam maker, OIS, fastest of the bunch, IP68 and 4 major Android updates and 5 years securities update promise, WiFi 6 or 7? depending on region?) Redmi Note 13 Pro+ (cam is supposed to be better tuned than the Pro edition below, though same lens hardware, OIS, only 10 sec AOD, great display quality, curved display looks better but more difficult to install tempered glass, no slouch, updates are 2/4 or 3/4 - depending who you talk to, WiFi 6) Redmi Note 13 Pro (good cam, both redmi have the 200 MP sensor for main cam, but supposedly the plus version is better tuned, advantage of 200 MP is that you can zoom better, great display, but not curved, slowest processor of the 3 but still fast enough if you don't do gaming, slower storage, IP54, more plastic also on the camera module, 3.5mm headphone, updates are 2/4 or 3/4 - depending who you talk to, WiFi5) I hope this helps you. :) BTW I am very happy with my Redmi Note 9s, which still is a great phone to this date, but enough new features have come along to go for a change after 4 years of ownership. This was the longest time ever I owned a phone - so thank you my beloved Redmi for your long and happy companionship! I will still keep the trusty 9s as an emergency replacement.
  15. Hello, I am thinking to open a crypto.com account, mainly coz I like some of their prepaid Visa card benefits. Would I be better off to use my Thai address (with Thai Driver License as verification) or my EU address (with passport validation)? How long would it take for me to receive my card after I opened an account, in your direct experience with crypto.com? Thanks for all your help, I am new to crypto and I don't plan to trade a lot, so any hints would be great.
  16. So I am not clear: Them asking for the country means the IDP is only valid in this country? Or why are they asking? I usually know IDPs to be valid worldwide in combination with the undlerlying driving license of the issuing country - as long as both are not expired.
  17. I wanted to get an International License in Chiang Mai too. At the window I was told validity was only one year, cost for IDP car license 500 THB, and I have to specify the country for which the license was valid. Those restrictions were not attractive for me, so I passed. Did you also get a license valid one year for only one country or did I misunderstand the questions?
  18. Hello, can anyone recommend affordable English courses for Thais in Chiang Mai? Thank you.
  19. I cannot find 66 realty, but I see 66 property. Did you mean that company?
  20. As a newcomer to the area, she is not at all well connected here and it is good to have someone who has had experience to guide you in the right direction. I was thinking that many expats here have experience with real estate companies and could point her in the right direction so that she can avoid choosing a company and then after 6 months realize that the company is not as good as it seemed. She is my neighbor and has a family of four to support, so I would like to help her avoid this kind of experience and I hope that many members of this forum would be kind enough to make some suggestions and save her some time and frustration.
  21. Hello, a friend of mine who was successfully developing and dividing land and building and selling houses in the larger Bangkok area moved with her family to CM for some personal reasons. I would like to recommend some good real estate companies to her so that she can apply for a position as a commissioned agent. I think her extensive real estate knowledge and her excellent sales skills would be an asset to any company in this field. Could you please tell me who you think are some of the best companies in this field in Chiang Mai? Thank you very much for your help!
  22. Hello, I entered Thailand beginning of September. I went to immi and got a new 1 yr extension for my Non-O about a week ago. Does that count as a 90 day report, or do I have to go and do a 90 day report now?
  23. You don't need an appointment. See my post Nov 3rd.
