Fears of political betrayal abound as Thaksin plans to touchdown at Don Mueang Airport on Tuesday
Dramatic moments are ahead in Thai politics with the public currently frozen in shock at the developments since the May 14th General Election. This may soon give way to anger and street protests if matters go as some senior and established analysts suggest they will from Tuesday and the days after that, as the Old Guard reasserts itself in power.
Next Tuesday may be a decisive day in Thai politics if former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra lands at Don Mueang Airport and is imprisoned while later, in the evening, the Pheu Thai Party’s nominee for Prime Minister runs the gauntlet of an increasingly activist Senate when his nomination to be Thailand’s 30th Prime Minister comes before Parliament.

Former PM Thaksin Shinawatra told BBC Thai that he will return on August 22, and there will be no further postponement.
When asked whether he is confident that Pheu Thai PM Srettha Thavisin will garner enough votes to become the 30th Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin replied, "Of course," but added that his upcoming trip has nothing to do with the PM voting on the same day.
Thaksin said he had planned this trip before House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha announced the PM voting date. Initially, he intended to return on July 31, but as it was a holiday, he rescheduled it for August 10. However, he chose August 22 due to its more auspicious nature.
He further stated that he opted not to return on August 21 due to it being Paetongtarn Shinawatra's birthday. He expressed his desire not to be in jail on the same day as his daughter's birthday.

Former MP Chuwit Kamolvisit has further accused Sansiri and its former CEO, Pheu Thai PM Candidate Srettha Thavisin, of tax evasion through the use of nominees to purchase lands worth 1 billion baht in Thong Lor. This alleged scheme was purportedly designed to circumvent paying the appropriate amount of taxes for these transactions.
He has raised questions about why Sansiri extended a 1 billion baht loan, via its subsidiary, to individuals lacking the financial capacity to repay the loan. These individuals were reportedly acting as nominees for the transactions, and included a housemaid and a security guard.
Chuwit asserts that he possesses evidence substantiating these irregular transactions. He has stated his intention to submit this evidence to the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Senate, and Parliament, urging them to initiate an investigation into Sansiri and Srettha. Additionally, he has revealed his determination to undergo chemotherapy in order to prolong his life for the purpose of pursuing this case.
