LTO batteries are interesting. Not as energy dense as the others but typically 10-20x more charge cycles. initially, I was going to specify them for my solar power installation at home, but as I looked into it more, I found out that the voltage difference between fully charged and discharged is significant, and it’s very difficult to BMS and get the power output out of them, the power output dropS significantly with voltage as they discharge. It’s also very difficult to match them up to inverters because they think the battery is discharged when actually it’s at a 70% state of charge. Certainly, it was impossible to match them up with my hybrid inverters.

We could have the same problems in Thailand if we don’t keep adding chargers at the same rate of EV sales. Right now not an issue. I am currently in Chiang Mai, EV’s are everywhere here.

Window dressing bank accounts for retirement extensions has become a big business. When my friend died following a motorbike accident, I took his passport and death certificate to immigration. I mentioned he had one of these hookey no money in the bank extensions and she said “Yes we know, we know who they all are”. Before he died he told me the local Immigration Office wouldn’t accept his 90 day reports and his visa agent had to do them. Since that time, I think at least one local officer has joined that scheme. At least one local visa agent is now offering the service and other friends with these hookey visas is doing her 90 day reports locally. Actually, this process is a fairly smart way to identify who to later target, but I don’t think that was ever their intention. The Elite visa company (TPC) do have access to our bank accounts, when I applied I was asked about major repeated withdrawals made by my ATM card in Australia. If they have access, probably every gov’t agency does.

Exchange rate 70+ when I came here from UK, watching that slide and the uncertainty over the future was what spurred me to go Elite. Until I discovered the chocolate and wine trick my experiences dealing with immigration were ofttimes disappointing.

I think it would be interesting to have a poll on what the members here think it might rise to. I have a feeling the approximate amount of the price increase will be telegraphed by the new Elite Visa prices.

I am fairly sure they didn’t consider exchange rates when they set the 65k/800k, they probably set it at a level in THB that was significant in advantage to the Thai economy. It would be interesting to know what that figure would be now adjusted for inflation.

Regarding liability, maybe this will explain why the tenants liability is unlimited. If you or one of your guests reverse your truck and accidentally knock down a wall, the roof falls in and the property is destroyed? Who is liable? Yes it was an accident, but it’s not the landlord’s responsibility, it’s your responsibility. There is no responsibility on the landlord to insure against your liability, and if he had, his insurance company would come after you. The big question for you is how much damage the landlord is claiming? Is it worth him pursuing legal action?

I don’t deny any of what you say. I have never claimed to be virtue signaling once. I buy EV’s because of the economics and the way they drive, if it helps with the planet, then all well and good. I put solar panels in my home purely for economic reasons too. The transition to EV’s is likely to be problematic, but we are an ingenious species and will get there. Right now is the golden tine to own an EV in Thailand with a low vehicle count and an abundant (over 4,000) chargers available. I do have some concerns with battery chemistry that I didn’t consider 2 years ago. I am more knowledgeable now and would think twice about LiION or NMC, not just flammability but recharge cycles and hot temperature longevity.
