Shocking slump: Thailand’s premium EV sales plunge 35%
JBChiangRai replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The numbers disagree with you. EV percentage share of new cars has climbed every month for the last 5 months and ICE percentage share has fallen for the same period. -

EV depreciation is a mess in the UK. I wouldn't buy one new there, but I would buy a used one. In Thailand there is no difference in EV vs ICE depreciation. I'm in the market for an ORA Good Cat for my youngest daughter, they are too expensive second hand, same is true for an MG4 my other choice for her. -

But that share is increasing every month and the ICE share is decreasing every month. -

I think the important point is the trend. Of those (admittedly limited) people ordering a new car, every month for the last 5 months, a greater percentage of people shunned the legacy ICE car and instead made the switch to EV. It's not about the numbers, it's about the percentages. Overall, all new car sales are down but the EV share is stealing customers from the ICE share and it's only the EV share that is increasing as more people turn away from ICE. -

And yet the percentage share of EV's as new registrations has risen every month for the last 5 months and the ICE market share continues to decline. EV sales percentages are rising and legacy cars are falling. -
International Driving Permit required?

Thailand and Germany are both signatories to the Vienna Convention, you can use your German Licence here for the month you are here. A policeman might disagree, but his superiors will educate him if push comes to shove and any insurance held here is valid, providing you haven't already been here some time before hiring. -

Let's look at the evidence shall we. Swiss & Wall Street financiers UBS paid engineers to tear down a BYD Seal. Their conclusions presented to the German car industry were as follows. Usually, a cheaper price means a less well-made product and conversely a more expensive price means a better made higher quality product. The BYD Seal is a higher quality product at a lower price. Additionally, BYD achieves a far higher degree of integration and is at least a generation ahead. Watch the video from 2:15 -

The title of this thread is Shocking slump: Thailand’s premium EV sales plunge 35% Let me make that title more accurate for you Shocking boom: The %age of new car registrations being EV's continues to increase for 5th month running. Or Shocking slump: New car sales plunge 25% but the EV percentage rises for 5th month running & the ICE percentage declines for the 5th month running. -

You reminder of those people looking at a climbing or declining graph and tell me that it is about to plateau and reverse. Are you psychic or just a conspiracist? -
As the previous owner of a new Porsche Taycan Turbo, I can tell you that you're talking absolute rubbish. However, if it's got to be a noisy, vibrating, polluting vehicle with 100 times more moving parts than an EV, then under 2M baht it would be a Ford Raptor if money for fuel was no object, or a Mercedes Benz C350e or E300e. The latter of these 2 is available at 25% off list brand new and you could bargain hard for a demonstrator. They are both PHEV's and much more of a driver's car than the Ranger. If you don't like PHEV's, don't plug it in, it's not mandatory. There isn't really anything else I would entertain, I already have the best EV under 2M baht, the BYD Seal Performance, every bit a driver's car, they call it a Sports Saloon and that is exactly what it is.

You're right, with electricity going up 20% an EV might only be 4 times cheaper to run than an ICE car, currently it's around 5 times cheaper.- 226 replies

There is no difference in depreciation in Thailand. There is a worked example on cars advertised in Thailand on the electric vehicles in Thailand thread. -

The share of new cars being EV's has climbed every month since February. The share of new cars being ICE has declined every month since February. All car sales have declined, but the EV share continues to climb.- 226 replies

American Arrested for Stabbing Australian to Death in Thailand

Two lives ruined because one guy carried a knife, like you recommend. I hope you don't carry a knife here, I would deport you and lifetime ban your return. -

Absolute nonsense. You're part of the problem, just like the Texan. It's a very serious crime in the UK to be carrying a knife. -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand

I probably do know it better than your neighbour, but there again, I do have a degree in Electronic Engineering. Blocking exporting of power is very difficult, recording it or allowing it to happen unrecorded is very simple with a digital meter. If you want a second opinion ask @Crossy, I think he's a sparky. -

JBChiangRai replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
The digital meters including TOU don't block exporting of power, what they do is record it separately. PEA/MEA won't pay you for it, and they won't like it. What they subsequently do is up to them, maybe nothing, maybe a lot. -
Buying car in official showroom with cash and banknotes
JBChiangRai replied to bkkniko's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I did buy an car and paid with multiple transfers of 2M baht per day, I didn’t want to make the trip to BKK to go to the dealership. I ordered and paid remotely and they trailered the car to me. I have never been to the dealership though the car went back twice under warranty. -

Well you could export but they wouldn’t pay you for it and they wouldn’t like it.
