Especially when they are referencing Government Watchdogs trashing Tory unsubstantiated claims about Brexit successes.

Topic under discussion: Britain is Broken ! Immigrants are the rightwing’s chosen scapegoats. Can’t blame the Government of 12 years, it must always be somebody else’s fault.

The Government have control of immigration. The Government have been in power 12 years. The Government are Tories (not ‘woke’). The Government said they would control immigration. The Government have lost control of immigration. Take it up with …. The Government.

Brexit has effected everyone in the UK, some very badly, a few hedge fund managers who provided the financial backing for the Leave Campaign have made fortunes, by placing bets against the UK.

Immigrants, legal or otherwise are not the topic of discussion. I suggest you direct your chagrin in the direction of those who told you they would fix the problem, you’ll find them in HM Government under the name o ‘the Tories’, they’ve been there for 12 years and I don’t think any of them meet the criteria of this ‘woke’ thing you are obsessed with.

How much you will be paying outside of the UK is of absolutely no relevance to the topic under discussion.

COVID and the war in Ukraine have been a problem, but : A. They were not self inflicted. B. Their impact is diminishing by the day. Not so Brexit.

Well yes, that’s because inflation is calculated over a 12 month period. By mid 2023 the recession will have been reducing demand by over 7 months while price rises from Spring 2022 will be removed from the calculation. The base increase in prices will however remain. Do you have any predictions for rent/mortgage arrears, evictions and repossessions?

Nothing is going to be done until the Government admits the damage from Brexit, or the Government is replaced by one that admits the damage from Brexit.

I did rather well working in the EU too. But thank you, you’ve just proved my point, the UK being a member of the EU did not prevent the UK businesses or Citizens from trading and working anywhere.

It might not have helped you, but I, and many people I know, did rather well working in ‘the rest of the world’ (including Thailand) for a British company during the period the UK was a member of the EU.

The issue with a U.S. /UK trade deal is the conditions the US will attach, the US ‘shopping list’ is already known to include: Removal and/diluting of regulations and legislation covering: Food contents and food labeling. Sale of GM foods into the market (unlabeled). Agricultural animal welfare standards. Use of pharmaceuticals in agricultural animal raising. Privatization of UK Health services and access of US insurance companies to replace direct NHS funding. Direct lobbying of US Companies into UK Government. Removal of taxation on US tech companies. Dictating terms of UK/Ireland negations. Veto on any trade deals the UK wishes to make. ……. It is perhaps a good thing for UK citizens that the US is not at this time interested in striking a trade deal with the UK. Perhaps Washington has a view in where the future of the UK belongs.

The UK has always been able to and always has traded with the rest of the world.

If this problem is people not being able to afford to feed their families is allowed to continue, so do I.

A deal with its closest integrated market would do the job, a free trade agreement with such a wealthy integrated market would definitely do the job.

We need to make another distinction. The threat to the UK’s farming industry created by the UK’s surrender trade deals with NZ and Australia does not arise from labour costs, it’s a direct result of UK farm production being undercut. Both the UK building industry and Farming have long term labour problems, Brexit has made those problems worse. The UK already has labour shortages across all sectors and a Government which is actively seeking to suppress wage increases. End result, fewer workers, less production, lower productivity, lower GDP added to the already present recession.

We need to make a distinction. Building trade workers may be pleased to face less competition (30-40%??), Building companies not so as they are unable to find workers for their businesses. Meanwhile, the Government bent over to get trade deals with NZ and Australia, surrendering UK economy interests for a short term political gain of being able to announce ‘trade deals signed’. Both of these trade deals throw the UK’s farming industry under the bus. So a few happy Brickies, the building industry struggling to find workers and a real threat to the UK’s strategically important farming industry.
