A statue to a man whose fortune was founded in human misery is pulled down?

    Good.

<deleted> his memory and that of all who profited from slavery.

Hmmmm a bit hard really as we all have profited if not directly then indirectly.  Better to be educated and understand the history and its complexity. Learn from the past, respect it and try to do better in the future.

Meanwhile, as the UK and USA tear themselves apart with riots and sob-story apologies for past historical events, the CCP gets stronger by the day with their bully boy tactics and their (so-far) successful route to world domination.  Bit ironic that....

Not really ... ???? .. Just look at history ... Some nations got up .. some go down ... same same .. just give it time.  I think Asia will be the next power house which will dominate ... Then maybe eventually it will be Africa when the steam run out in Asia..

All of us here on  TV will be long gone by then ???? ....

Or maybe it will be Covit-35 or a nuclear war that will be the big 'historical reset' ....

For some, what is happening in the west is a very good reason why some do not like 'full on democracy'.

I dont know much about this or about Edward Colston, but was the statue erected because he traded in slaves or was the statue for some other reason he was famous?

I think he was important for the city back in the days .. Gave money and subsequently the city put up a statue for him.  All the big ports on the west coast of England was in various forms involved. Ships and the sea you know .....

Germany needs US troops on its soil like Trump needs a hole in his head, ie not at all.

It's wonderful news the Yanks are going. Good for America, which saves money by putting GIs in much cheaper dreary Poland, but even better for Germany where defense will become an issue and the long hard path to nuclear weapons and a stronger army can commence.

It's long overdue that Germany build a proper defence umbrella itself. It has the resources and technological know-how to become a major nuclear power. Having US troops on German soil, subject only to US law, the way Europeans were only subject to European laws when occupying China is humiliating and unbecoming for a great nation like Germany.

Not that Russia is any kind of threat, though, I'm more concerned about Poland. As it is right now Poland could invade Germany easily. Decades of German political failure will come home to roost unless Germany strengthens its military.

Poland invading Germany ? That would be  new one for the books would it not ????

It does not matter one iota on what the percentages are, it is always the troublemakers that ruin it for the unknown percent that may be peacefull, if you are with the aggressors you become an accessory, the police cannot differentiate who are the good guys and who are the bad guys in a maelstrom like we are seeing. I didn't see many "demonstrators that act within the law" trying to stop these anarchists.

Untill all 'demonstrators' can act in a law abiding way all of these so called demonstrations must be cancelled with immediate effect.

What is the price of freedom and open democracy?

What is democratic by destroying others peoples property because you don't agree with something, comes across as fascism to me.

I have been following this to some extent on Tik-Tok ..... ????

I have seen several clips 'demonstrators' who are actively pushing away / trying to stop some of the 'scum' ....

Some clips showing good interaction between the 'good' demonstrators .. and the comment on the video is : why does media not show this?

Sure most of the stuff show bad stuff ...

I do think it matter what the % is ..... The old saying about the baby and the bath water comes to mind ????

In no way do I condone the bad stuff ... If I had a shop and it was being looted I would have no hesitation to put a bullet in the right place ... Unfortunately, even in America I think I would have been locked up for 'excessive force'....

well good for them ....  just goes to show they care less about their health and others than first thought.

wouldn't it be terrible if they did catch the virus .... and then they will be looking to blame Trump or whoever they can. It's a shame common sense has gone out the window ....

5555  When did the average American ever care about health  ... Just see the size of the waist line... ????   The rioters look all young and fit ... Can not say that for all that I have seen

I think people are very kind calling these thugs demonstrators, they're no such thing, they are rioters and should be treated as people breaking the law and not watched by the police while they do so.

Would you not agree that you have both ?

Demonstrators who act within the law

    and

Agitators who are hellbent on looting and causing mayhem.

The issues then is .. what is the split between them 70 / 30 ?

Unfortunately, even if the split is 90/10 ... the 10% is all that people see and what is reported .. also the 10% can cause a lot of damage ...

    Ridiculous by  Fox.

His  written speech simply twisted  the reality.

    Biden was  correct. Despicable!

Spout  the obvious  but  with  no indication  of any action to  bring about the humanitarian balance  the US  has  always  lacked but  deny and then to  suggest   that  a victim  is "hopefully" looking down in some twisted sense of  approval????

Is  Floyd  now elevated  to a  state of  martyr because  Trump suggests so?

No !  The  poor sod  died tragically and  unnecessarily because until the opportunist moment for an excuse to, in contradiction,  use that death to proclaim something unrelated to false political advantage is gross and insulting.

So hold that thought then ..... This means that he must be in heaven .. and only good people go to heaven .. right?  Maybe something to reflect over for the people on TV who say that he was of bad moral fiber and this should somehow help to imitate what happened to him .....

When even despots can claim the moral high ground with any kind of credibility it's time for serious introspection. Imagine the belly laugh from Putin when he ordered that message to be put out there.

Up next will be China .... 'Sort out your own mess before meddling in ours'  ... ????

I read the 26 page judicial decision. The Iran sanctions were not the "essence" of the case. The lies made by Weng were the essence of the fraud, and the Iranian sanctions were a "state of affairs". And this a big differentiator in how extradition cases are judged.  But that would not matter in your beloved China, because the case would be decided purely on it's political merit. It's quite obvious from the Chinese propaganda rags that it is seriously beyond Chinese comprehension how a case would not be influenced by politics.

If you can get to the judicial decision over the great firewall, you should give it a read. But don't get caught - might lower your social score!

You do know that TV is clocked in China ???? .

  11. I am to some extent perplexed why with all the number of guns in private hands - not more have been killed?

I suppose you would get locked up or at least it would be impossible for you to stay in the community. Lets say you had a store .. and people wanted to loot it / burn it down.

    Then ...

Lets say you just kill a few before they do to much damage.. So its better to just let it rip, hope the insurance will pay and start over.

I guess we all carry a sightly differing approach to life. I take great pleasure in seeing my wife and kids enjoy buying things, my wife having the pleasure of managing the building our modest home, buying a bit of land, my son and wife buying cattle, spending on a new cow shed, Daughter having her new motorcycle to travel to school. A new phone here and there. Never had the means to spend millions, maybe that is my good fortune ???? maybe not so smart just not so much to give ????

I have no craving for ownership, my security is that I have always survived what ever life has thrown at me, and always will. Means I have no issues with the fact our home is on land kindly donated by my mother in law. Means I can gratefully accept her generosity in the spirit it was given. No insulting self protecting usufruct rubbish, and of course an economic plus.

I do not need to die rich or with multiple possessions, and I surely will not, my life is easy and uncomplicated.

So perhaps no different from the op in that I enjoy giving providing for my family, my return is the enjoyment, happiness and future I work to create along with my wife and Thai family.

    Long may it continue ????

Yes may your good fortune continue ...... and remember ...

Going a bit off topic, but then it is relevant to your post........

America's fear of communism has led it into several wars, many diplomatic scuffles and lots of lost lives, when it didn't need to be that way.

The reason being is that ideals like communism need fertile ground on which to prosper, and when I say communism, I do not mean what a lot of people here refer to as "lefties/socialists". So there is no reason whatsoever why a country like America or any other successful capitalist country need fear communism, because there is no basis or need for it.

By all means look at putting in place socialist programs to help the poor and disenfranchised, but along the same lines, help them to help themselves.

For whatever reason, more black folk in America are killed at the hands of the police, than any other race, and many times in very questionable circumstances and that shows a distinctive trend going back decades, even centuries, but it won't be fixed unless it is addressed by leaders who want to address it, and that does not include the current moron in charge.

I think Mr Catoni should catch up on the latest world events ... Both China and Russia is as far from the old classic communism as you can get .....

Both highly 'capitalistic' and materialistic with a different view on democracy as defined by us in the west.

Non of that 'take form the rich and give to the poor as was the mantra in the old days when the working man was forever doomed to work the land and bow to the 'boss' ... Now all the red flag waving you see is nothing but nostalgia for the people to not 'forget the past' and work hard to let the nation prosper so they all can have iphone. plasma screens and go to Thailand for holiday every 6 months ????

The people doing the looting are solely to blame for their actions .

A Twitter account isn't doing the looting

You are absolutely right - Ultimate responsibility is with the individual. But are you then also saying that 'advertising' has no effect on people and do carry some level of 'responsibility' ?

Is Twitter / TikTok etc .... not just another form of social advertising for 'what I believe' ?

Would you not equate a false statement that could excite violence to the same as a doctor saying that smoking is good for you?

You could even make  good argument that is SOME cases smoking IS good for you. If you suffer very badly from stress ... smoking could make you relax and get over the stress issue ...  So if you are presented with ALL the facts then you may be able to make a valid judgment.

What can one even say? Many of us tend to use a great deal of discrimination when it comes to lending money to our close friends. Not sure how to even respond to the idea of lending money to someone you have never even met. Desperation knows no bounds.

Do real men do something like this? I think a real man would call for patience. And face to face meetings. Get to know someone. Take your time. Get ahold of your anxiety. Let it unfold in a rather organic fashion. There is nothing natural about meeting anyone online, and you know virtually nothing about them, until you have spent some real time together. Months, even years.

For some of us, who are not millennials, the whole concept of striking up a relationship online, then chatting and spending dozens or hundreds of hours getting to know someone online, and texting to death, without ever meeting them, just reeks of desperation, and isolation. The few times I ever engaged in online dating, my rule was two emails or chats, then a Skype type video call, then an actual meeting of 20 minutes for a cup of coffee. Lets see where it goes from there. You do not want to meet so quickly? OK. Find another pen pal please. Homey don't play that game.

The biggest part of the problem here, is the extreme emasculation that is taking place in the West. Most men, in the US, Europe, and Oz, are no longer real men, when it comes to dealing with their women. Their women have made their lives so difficult, and alot of women have gotten so far away from their innate femininity, and have become dominant, and super controlling, and men just go along with it. Most men have become so hungry for love, or emotionally desperate for some kindness, and TLC. And most are so desirous of being around a real woman, who knows how to act like a woman, and manifest the dignity, within femininity. So, it is easy for the con artists, like this worm Jariyaporn, to take advantage of emotionally wounded men, who seem to be willing to do anything to regain a semblance of normality in their lives, with a decent woman.

When my friends ask, I tell them, always remember, if it is good, it is only going to get better. If there are problems, they will reveal themselves over time. Take your time getting to know a woman here, or anywhere. Time is your ally. It is rarely their ally. They are usually trying to step up the timetable. We need to push back. We need to assert control. An environment like this allows us to do so. Take advantage of that. Be a man. Step up. Pay tribute to the gender. Refuse to lay down anymore. Refuse to be a doormat. Refuse to check your cajones at the door. Start making the decisions! I have so many friends, who come here, and from the very start, make the same mistakes they made back in the West. Except here, they do not need to make those mistakes. The environment does not dictate that they behave like lambs. Many do not know, or realize that, or they succumb to "force of habit". Every ship needs a captain. If the man is not willing to be the captain of the ship, the woman will take over, here in Thailand. Most women here seem to want a strong man. But, if they end up with a wimp, they will take if she is a big baby, who only looks like a real woman, but in reality is a 13 year old, or if she is a con artist, if she is only in it for the money, those realizations will manifest themselves over time. Time allows clarity. Never, ever move too quickly. That is the undoing of most of these guys. Man up. Do yourself proud.

All good advice ... However I am curious as to what you mean by this :
