I get an email from Apple offering me the new XR and XS iPhones for shipping to Thailand ! Prices stars at 30,000 for XR 64GB,which is approx 1000 US $ . It is advertised at 750$US in the states ! So it’s a 25% mark up for the privilege to buy in good old overpriced Thailand ! Think I’ll pass

Apple will be a pioneer in Thailand for customer service. I'm assuming of course Apple will retain its worldwide standards.
 
That means Apple staff serving the public will need impeccable English, exhaustive product knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills.
 
I have no doubt that Thais are capable of meeting these standards given proper training and decent employment packages.
 
It will make a change from the almost non existent language skills and current ineptitude not to mention the surly indifference (if an early sale is not registered). Prancing around and fluttering eyes are not really a substitute for Apple like service skills.
 
Fingers crossed then.

The move was prompted by Thai Immigration’s demand for “verification” vs “certification”.
 
 
Even the British embassy would not decline 52 Quid, for doing bugger-all, on “cost cutting “ grounds.

The more we read about this ONLY applying to UK retirees it’s clear it’s cost cutting by the UK foreign office, which is disgraceful since they sold the UK embassy site on wireless road for how many billion baht ?

Do all IO have to see prove of the money for retirement extension (400-800k)coming from outside Thailand ? If anyone could get funds into the account from friends or family in the country is that acceptable ?

Disgraceful answer from supposedly British Embassy. I pay over £2,000 a year in UK taxes to the UK Government and my pension income is supported by P60's which are officially recognised by the UK Government. I would have extreme difficulty getting permission for my wife to live in the UK but the Embassy says no problem put the best part of £20,000 in a bank account in Thailand for 3 months and you will be able to stay there with no problems. Hopefully some solution will be found without having to resort to brown envelopes!

I can understand the anger! If the UK Embassy is doing this under pressure from Thai Immigration, let’s hear about that! Or is it just cutbacks and not wanting to do anything for UK taxpaying expats ?

So if this is coming from Thai Immigration, then surely other embassies will be or would have issue same new directives ! So is Thai authorities just after Brit retirees? At the end of the day we can ask the question. Why is this being done now?

If I'm not mistaken these new regulations make your Thai bankbook the primary document. No 800K, 3 months before extension application.....no visa extension. If you go the 65K per month route , the bottom lime is you'll need to show 800k , 3months before.
Isn't it as simple as that?
Doesn't this make all this discussion of income letters etc totally immaterial.
