  1. Thanks for support and replies people. Yeah I disagree with that quote, because the first 2 weeks I didnt really have any cravings, well it was kinda like I quit for 2 weeks, then went to a rave and smoked 10 which is a lot for me as I used to only smoke 5-10 a day. After the rave I had no cravings to smoke at all for a fortnight then every now and again I get that feeling in my lungs, like an itch that needs scratching. Im ashamed to admit it but I made a small roll up last night. I was in heaven again hehe :o

    Todays been okay....

i smoked 40-50 roll ups a day (golden virgina ) for over 30 years then about 15 years ago i gave them up, i remember holding this ash tray with about 10 stale stumps and ash in it and saying to myself "these cigs are going to kill you "the best thing i ever done,i coughed up dirty black flem for the first couple of months but once i was over the worst ( the first 6 months) i had beaten them, i was very surprised how easy it was.

what helped me (SO MUCH) i was doing the rounds in pattaya at the time and i would see so many of the girls had gerdums ( i think the thai call them) same as the vic inhalers so i bought one and every time i wanted to have my routine smoke, instead would have a sniff of my inhaler.

15 years on i still carry my gerdum in my pocket sometimes going weeks without knowing its there, but i know while ive got the inhaler im safe from going back on that terrible habit

  2. Good idea olysang.

btw i will come only if there are dancing girls !!!!! :D

Mr erg, these Dancing Girls come highly recommended . . :D:o

Has this event got off the ground yet ? As I will be in Chiang Rai on the 30th July for 2 weeks.

    Imagedude :D

i will throw a couple of cases of archa beer in,

i bought a couple of cases at makro about 2 weeks ago 285 baht a case,

then found a shop 265baht a case, so i bought some more ,

went past the same shop 2days later 260baht a case,so i bought some more,

went past the same shop yesterday 250 baht a case so i bought some more ,

and to top it all,its not a bad budget type beer,

ive got 12 cases on stock to last me through the world cup, mabe when its over they might bring the price down to 200 baht a case (oh the thought)

  3. Mflu sounds like the latest form of influenza, but it doesn't look Spanish or Greek. How is it spelled, something like Mae Flu Lang univ.?? I'm serious, how do you say it?

Where do you want this topic posted, Costas: here in teacher's forum, or Chiang Rai? I think the CRai people might be more knowledgable.

    hello peaceblondie

its the mae fah luang university, named after the old queen mother

  7. Hi everybody,

My sattellite is down at the moment so I can not get any of my south african channels and for some reason I am not getting ABC asia Pacific where the rugby is showing on Saturday. I was hoping that someone would know of a place that has a decent size tv and has the sattellite "Agila" not that UBC <deleted>.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I did read in a previous post that there is a bar near big C that has a massive TV. Does this bar have agilla.

I knows Bo's does have it but the tv is too small and the <deleted> pot plant is in the way.

    Thanks in advance.

    In the Rai!

you can allways come to my place at least you will be half way there ive got a big ass but only a small tv (what am i saying,)

    bye bye

i think a im sorry is in order to the thai banks

    hello lampard/ raro

if you look at the date of first post it was last friday, all the banks in chaingrai were open.

the post was in reply to our good friend topfield who swore blind that all banks were closed on friday giving way for the thai banks to rip all the farang off once again with the exchange rates .

i tried to post my reply on topfields thread but the moderator got there before me and closed the thread (i wonder why).

come on toppy whens the reply coming

the bunboondan guest house is still there mabe 250 fan 350 air these days, the only last bar on the left before the temple was opened by richard an american guy,i think the wife/ex still owns the place i remember cockney neil having the place for a couple of years (the blue moon) the last one to have the bar was taxi/crasy joe who opened for a year or two (its closed now)

the karaoke joint nearby i think was opened as a go go bar first off by gordon (nice guy )and a scottish mate since then mainly been for the thais as you say karaoke ,dont know if its still open

  14. about 2 years ago my wife also had signs of a lump on the breast ,we went to see the doctor at overbrook who advised that the lump should be taken out and tested, has we were anxious to have this done as quickly as possible he told us to call back that afternoon when he removed the lump with a small operation my wife was the only one being operated on in the room. the next week we returned for the results, the same doctor who could speak perfect english told us the good news that the lump was non maligment and a couse of medicines would cure the problem ( whitch it did).

the fee for the operation was about 1,300 baht plus medicines i fear to think how many anxious months it would have taken in the uk

  15. As long as...

His name is in blue tabien baan book

He can have a thai ID (if old enough)

    He has a thai passport

He's not a thai unless he can obtain a thai passport. If he can have this...then he is entitled with all the rights of the thais including owning a land

my daughter was born in thailand she has a thai passport, name on the tabien baan, she his 13 (today as a matter of fact) can she have land in her name now or must she wait till she his older

    thanks

I might be wrong (but not too far off)

So far that I know....Your daughter is not of the age of maturity (20 years); therefore, she cannot legally own the land. This is not to say you cannot purchase the land in her name. You will, however, need to appoint a guardian. Without appointing a guardian, it is likely that your wife (assuming she is Thai) will be de facto deemed guardian. It is technical, complex, and some land registration offices are not happy doing it. For these reasons, I suggest you talk through the land office at the Ampur or with a reputable lawyer of what you want to do

    thanks for the info bkk90210

  16. does anybody know were you can buy a mixture of grass seed and wild flower seed, also is there a home security alarm dealer in chaingrai

    thanks

Come and walk around for ten minutes in my garden wearing long pants and woollen socks.

The seeds will automatically stick to them.

A harvest of ten minutes should be enough for a quarter of a rai.

    Welcome!

    Limbo :o

PS. Anybody knows a good grasscutter in Den Ha area?

thats not grass seeds youve got there limbo its 100%weeds admit it

the post his not for me,what i know about gardening you could put on the back of a postage stamp,

and the house alarm: ive got nothing worth nicking,

but if anybody knows keep them coming

  18. WELL NOW YOU HAVE IT. IS THIS INDIAN OUTFIT SANE or was it purely an aberration by a member of their staff who had gone bonkers?

Please remind me topfield, what has being Indian have to do with any of this?

reply ; This outfit is run and managed from Chennai.

is this a load of toffeefield.

to quote from a few of posts "these chennia based idiots"

    "is this indian outfit sane"

"this financially sound and properly estabilished indian company"

    ARE THEY COWBOYS OR INDIANS

quote="i am old enough to remember a similar policy after the war"

you must be in your seventies and you still find time to run a business, write encyclopedias on thai visa, withdraw money from every atm in bangkok, and check every rate change at the weekends when these lazy thai bankers are spending all the money they have ripped off the farang. and to TOP it all you still find time to recommend that we open a foreign currency account in a cambodian bank(another quote)

    WHAT A MAN YOU ARE

    REPLY

A Thai outsourcing Co. Are you happy now ?

Read the English newspapers and practically every day there is a reference to an Indian outsourcing agency. Even BT and Norwich Union use them and there are many people who would much prefer a UK based agency. The outsourcing business is run mainly by Indians as they are good at English, international tel lines are now almost free , but the main reason reason they are chosen is they are far cheaper . Remember this outsourcer was chosen as they offered the highest bid to run the service at a level of service acceptable to the FCO.. The ad for an outsourcer appeared in the Bangkok Post placed by the Embassy.Their aim is to make a nice profit.

As for your other unpleasant personal remarks all I can say is that this is a forum for views on different subjects and viewpoints not for personal attacks on people. Thank you.

how can you say in one post"these chennia based idiots"

and a day later say "this financially sound and properly established indian company"

if you put your head in the noose, expect someone to pull the rope

  20. Is there any restriction on how much Sterling you can take out of the Kingdom?..or take into the UK?

    Just interested if anyone knows

    Cheers

    TP

There are no currency restrictions for the importing or exporting of either local or foreign currencies into or out of the U.K. The last time restrictions were impossed was during the 1960's, these were formally abolished in 1970

i would check on the no restrictions of taking sterling out of the uk, i know of a case ( and i have no reason to disbelieve this guy) he said has he was about to board a flight man-manilla 2 armed police pulled him over and asked him how much cash he had, when he told them 7,000 pound they took the money off him and told him to use his credit card until he could prove were he got the money from, since then i have noticed some people getting pulled over has they are about to board the flight,i could be wrong but i heard anything over 5 grand is dodgy

  21. ThaiPauly,

I think you have been missinformed.

With respect to Thailand, your state pension will be frozen and remain at the value it is from the day you leave the country. There is no mechanism to pay GBP100 to secure a full indexed linked pension.

With respect to 33 years contribution, there is no answer until the White Paper has been debated in parliament and the laws on pensions changed.

But do not hold your breath: As I say above, I fully expect the laws to change the regulations on what constitutes a year you need to pay and a year you need not. I expect that to be based on childcare or care of a sick/old relative.

Before stopping NI Payments you should contact the Department of Work and Pensions and get a pension forcast.

My view is that I shall continue to pay NI until I see black and white regulations that say I have paid enough to get my full pension.

Meanwhile I frequently write to my MP and the press to protest the feazing of overseas pensions.

    hello guest house

i would not pay them until i knew what time limit do i have before payment is due,

i also have paid 33 years contributions, now they say that i owe 325 pound from the1998-1999year

i just dont know if this is correct or not, but its like knocking your head against a brick wall trying to get a straight answer from them, but they have said that i have untill 5th april 2009 to pay without penalty, also they remind me that for the year 2006-2007 the amount due will be 392.60 but i have till the 5th april 2009 to pay without penalty and the final time limit is 5th april 2013.

so no way am i paying another penny till we see whats going on
