  1. i have been asked by two friends (its not for me honest)

to check on what documents are needed to marry in thailand.

i browsed a couple of web sites and come up with the following

(1)complete a statutory declaration with the vice consul to witness your signature

from the embassy of your country.

    (2)birth certificate

(3)certificate of divorce if previously married

(4)proof of identity with your passport

can you get the statutory declaration from your embassy in bangkok.

    any other documents needed

what about the wife i presume tabien ban, id card anything else

i think they will want to marry up country any difference to bangkok

    thanks for your help

  2. Around 300bht a truck load and figure 100plus loads.

I have been quoted 2 ngan (or 800 sqm i think) which seems corresponding to what I estimated the surface to be.

They quoted me 200 trucks for the 1 m raise

'red' earth total 100.000 or if I pay per truck 600 a load

Is it really out of price ?

yes the 600 baht a load is far to high.

    shop around

  3. limbo /john

  4. There is one in town that has a house for rent in Sintanee 2 for 9500 a mo. The going rate for houses for rent there is 3500-5000. I think i am going to become a realtor. :o

    hello mumbo

before you become a realtor,i would make sure your figures add up.

lets say a house in sintanee 2 cost 1.5 million, if you take a morgage out over 20 years at even 5% pa you pay back 3 million baht, so you only want to pay say 4,000 bpm say 50 thousand a year rent.

so in one year you will pay rent of 60,000 baht so i think it will take the owner 50 years to recoup what he pays the bank.

so if the owner pays 12,000 baht a month or a 150,000 baht a year morgage to pay off the 3million bank loan over 20 years he has to subsidise the rent you want to pay at the rate of 7,000 baht per month for 20,years.

seeing that most banks are giving 5% plus interest on your money at present so i think the 5% morgage figure i quoted is a little on the low side.

so with figures like this i would think twice about going into the realtor business

  5. Hi

Thinking of driving to china , do we (my gf thai and i am a singaporean) have to get any special permit/visa in tachilek or china ? thankss

why dont you call into four lens tour, they have a office on the super highway just past the little duck traffic lights on the right hand side heading south.

the guy speaks very good english and the company do boat trips to china,

he will know what visas etc are required

  6. you must look at the whole contex of your situation,"do you want to go into big business or just pass the time away with a little hobby"

in my case we have 7 beautiful rai set in the mountains i planted the teak trees just for a hobby,i also have 100 longan trees ,some more fruit trees and last year i put in 75 dragon fruit posts,i think i am occupying my mind by pottering around the land.

everything ive done on the land i have treated as a hobby, some people like playing golf for a hobby, some people like sitting back with a beer and doing nothing but i have found in certain cases one beer becomes 2 3 4 5 6 beers and the next thing you know you have a bigger problem than worrying about somebody stealing your teak trees and lets face it,here in chaingrai there are hundreds of teak trees growing around the place and i have not seen or heard of anyone stealing them,

so for me it all depends on what you want to do,

some people want to own the world all i want to do is live in it

  7. I'm talking about 3 or 4 miles out of Sakhon Nakhon needs raising was paddy

Near to main road and facilities (about 2km) also near to good high school

if you are planing to build a house on the land etc, i would find out how much to back fill

a rai of land in your area, you could be talking anything up to 100,000 baht a rai just to backfill

  8. [

SOAP...what kind of soil are they growing in, do you know what is good and what is bad? Do they take up much maintenance or do you just leave them be and forget about them.

Another problem down the road is theft, especially as it is such a high value wood and will only get more valuable and popular. How do you overcome this, or do you live on the same block/area.

i think the climate/soil etc of northern thailand is ideal for growing teak,

i dont give them any fertilizer but i try and trim the offshoot branches once or

twice a year, btw thats a very tiring job on the arms when you are trying to prune 12 m

teak trees with a little saw hanging onto a bamboo pole

never given much thought to the camoy, people that ive met around here are in

the main very honest, will let the kids sort that out

  9. i know very little about computers, but i have the tt+t max pack for just over 600baht amonth and so far very pleased with the service.

last year i had a guy from norway half thai (nice guy )who rented a house from me he paid about 2.400 baht a month for a tt+t package he was selling stuff on the internet and had 3 or 4 computers going at the same time, i would say he was a computer wizz kid, no complaints from him about the service

  10. thanks soap.

any idea what your trees would sell for right now if they were big enuf?

    hello buddhfly

i think it would be pointless to think what they were worth for at least another 5 years

at least,i think the price goes on what size they are across measured by the centimetre,

i believe if you dont have a chinord for the land you might have a problem with cutting them down from the amphur

  11. anybody have info on

    1.where to get saplings,

    2.cost of saplings,

3.how long until they are big enoiugh to sell,

4.and how much they will sell for?

    thanks. BF

(1-2) it all depends on how many you want,at this time of the year the teak trees are in flower,

the guy next door to me as a 25 year old teak tree the seeds blow down into my garden and start growing until i cut the grass,i have about 20 shoots growing now.

i also have 300 teak trees growing on just under a rai, i planted them 5 years ago and paid 3 baht each from phrae,

(3-4) teak are a long term business,i put mine in knowing the kids would get any profit out of them.

the older they are the more money they are worth, who knows what they will be worth in 10-15 years

  12. Hi,

I entered a verbal agreement to rent a house in Pattaya. The landlord wanted a 6 month contract. I gave him about 3 months rent and a little more (9K a month; 35K total). I stayed there only 2 weeks before I realized it was not right place for me. Now he refuses to return any of the deposit. He claims that this is the way it is done here.

He is no pauper by any means.

So. ... Is he right? If I am entitled to a return of some of the deposit, is there like a small claims court or arbitration. Open to suggestions.

    Thx.

i am curious to know whats so adverse about the place, you must be intending to stay in pattaya for at least 6 months.when you agreed to rent didnt you check out the place before paying your deposit

  13. hello big kev

i have just had my car changed over to lpg and after 2 weeks i am very pleased so far that i changed over.

my fuel bills have been cut by at least 50% i have not noticed any power loss.

i look at it this way,i am sure within one year i will have saved on my fuel bills to pay for the conversion 20,000 baht.

i was going to try and sell my car a daewoo espero 2 litre auto, knowing that the thais dont like to buy the daewoo cars.

but i have had this car for over 8 years now and i love the car except for the fuel consumption ,so now i will keep the car for a few more years without having monthly payments to fork out on a new vehicle,

and when the time comes to sell the car if i point out what my fuel bills are after the conversion hopefully it will prove a good selling point

  14. I remember someone once posted a couple of websites for car and/or motorobike auctions in Bangkok...

After doing a search I can't find the relevant threads... :o

Can anyone do me a favour and post a link or offer any advice on how they operate???

    Thanks in advance

  15. i have allways been a sucker for auctions, i love the buzz you get when you think youve got a bargain, i bought a car from union auction bangkok some 8 years ago, will allways remember, i think the first car auction in thailand ,thousands of cars ,thousand of thais who where not familar with auctions and many paid over the odds in my opinion for the japanese makes.

i read on the updated union auction web site that they do hold car auctions in chaingmai so i am now looking to replace my old faithful pickup rest assured i will try to pick up another bargain from them.

but please beware, one mistake and you have lost a lot of money,so take care and make sure you get things right

  16. i have just had a coffee with one of the nicest people i would wish to meet limbo, and yes when you get to know the guy you cannot say anything bad about him because their his no malice or badness in him.

but how the slanging match arose is because i did not know him,i spoke to him for a short time over 6 months ago, i wanted him to come to the hash to have a drink and a bite to eat off me,but for some unknown reason i did not get the chance to speak to him.

so when i read the last paragragh i was gobsmacked,i said to myself "what have i done to the guy to deserve the slur on my character, of course i now know he meant no harm.

the bottom line is you tend to form an opinion of a person without without ever knowing or seeing them on these forums.

i know now that i will be friends with limbo/john for many years to come because our natures are both the same.

limbo if possible can you please erase my reply to your first post

  17. [mymechew

if you want to sit there and let a person post on a world wide web site that you are extremely mean, utmost detestable, on the edge of a sadistic roll after having only2 hours personal contact with the person in your life good luck to you.

for me my life long principles will not allow me to let a person post such slurs and were i come from our natural instinct his to give as good has you take.

all my life i have dealt with the public and have lost count of the jeckal and hyde people that i have come across.

limbo has now been in touch with me and has far has i am concerned the matter is now closed

  18. I experienced the whole event as extremely surrealistic. It could have been a scene from an old Russian movie. A Potempkin between the rice fields.

There is no frame of reference in between my ears, nothing to compare with, I hear no bells ringing spontaneously.

I am trying to recall it, but only an unstructured series of flashbacks project themselves against the innerside of my impressive forehead.

I see grown up men and women showing their knobby knees under the kind of pants I didn't even know the existence of.

I see people who I hold in high esteem turn into naughty boys and girls.

Yes, if anything, then the Hash House Harriers runs seem to be a kind of temporary rejuvenation cure.

Would it only be the appearances which would underline this, but no, also the behaviour of the participating ladies and gentlemen does. Their facial expression, their way of moving. Like young adolescents who are still exploring the width's of their physical existence.

Then, at a certain moment, one of the participants (I suppose a kind of master of ceremony or ringleader) starts to make a completely ununderstandable introduction of the event of the day, that seems to explain something only to those who suffer from the same speech impediment.

The gathering starts to scratch its sportshoes in the muddy earth as if they were circus horses who just learned to count to three.

Suddenly somebody shouts something and a part of the gathered community starts to run.

Yes, run, as if they are afraid to miss a train or an airplane, but I can assure you there wasn't any of these in the neighbourhood.

Their faces express a kind of serious astonishment; they look like bearers of the Olympic Torch even if some of them at best carry one of these plastic waterbottles.

I shortly panicked but then I noticed that the rest of the community quite chaotic but slowly started to move in the direction where the young rascals in the meantime already had disappeared.

So the walk had started. The sun didn't shine, but somebody had forgotten to switch of the heavenly waters so that everybody actually got wet, aside from those who had brought raincoats which of course, that's where raincoats are for, got wet on their behalf.

Yes, we walked indeed on roads where any mentally well-balanced person wouldn't walk if not forced to do so by a flat tyre or another calamity.

I must say that everybody was very friendly to me and permanently tried to encourage me with remarks of the kind 'isn't it beautiful here' and 'these are places one normally doesn't come'.

Of course I admitted all this wholeheartedly, what else could I have done?

Even in the middle of a ricefield, walking on a muddy little dam I was supposed to look around to admire the beauty of the landscape. Pure out of politeness I did, with the result that I stepped in the water with my right foot which added an extra handicap to overcome during the remaining distance of the walk.

At the end of the 'run' everybody was happy and visibly relieved and did everything which was possible to convince each other that it had been a fantastic, superp, hitherto unsurpassed run.

Of course I agreed: I know how to act in public and I am a meek and accommodating person!

As this account is getting too long I shall continue tomorrow.

    :o .

before i reply to your slurs on my character,i would like to recall my personal contact with you in my 15 years that i have lived in chaingrai.

the first time i met you was in chaingrai some 6 months ago when we had a 15/20 minute conversation reminissing the chaingrai of years gone by,the second time i had a personal message from you saying maybe we could get together for a drink, the third time was last saturday when you turned up at the hhh without having the courtesy to confirm by e-mail that you was coming.

i am not sure if i spoke to you before the hash started has you arrived with minutes to spare,if i did i would most probably have thanked you for coming, then i remember seeing you for maybe one minute at the half way stage. i could explain in detail why i was standing there and not walking with the hash. but i presume you were busy thinking of your slurs to post and you would not have appreciated a logical explanation.

i did notice you at the buffet that my wife had spent many hours preparing and was a free gesture with a drink thrown in from me with this being my first laying the trail that i had a hand in plus the fact that my birthday was earlier in the month, i remember seeing you a couple of time again mainly filling your face on the free buffet and i think you left when all the food had been consumed.

it has now took you 4 days for you to cower behind a keyboard in order to post a melodramatic report that reads if it came out of a harry potter movie of a harmless saturday afternoon walk.

how dare you sit amongst nice people and post sarcastic comments about peoples attire and remark sarcasticaly about a persons speech in pediment.

i will now address the slur by you on my charactor.

firstly i would like to know how any peron can form an opinion of another person with having less than 2 hours personal contact with the person in 15 years, and then feel justified in calling the person"extremely mean, boot (whatever that means? do you mean clog) utmost detestable,on the edge sadistic role" and then in the same breath call me an honourable member, has i am sure my

wife and 2 children would like to know.

i have never formed an opinion of any body after reading only one page, but in your case i will make an exception.

after reading your post i have come to the conclusion that you are a // removed on special request //.

were i come from,if we take issue with some one we tell them to their face not cower behind a keyboard

Soap is indeed rightfully angry. This anger is based on a sentence I removed from my original post, that was meant to be satyrical but in its context also could be interpreted as completely negative and insulting. I apologised by PM to Soap, who I hold in high esteem..
