    Fraud, AML, regulatory compliance, immigration control... there are many reasons countries have these rules (Thailand isn't the only one)... Moreover, if you don't live here you don't need a bank account, and of you do live here, get the correct visa that allows you to open a bank account.

    Your reading comprehension is piss poor... Reread the original post... I said those without long stay visas have been getting accounts far to easily for too long (and they should not be)... NonO is a long stay visa and should be able get an account.

    Necessary, really. People showing up without the correct visa type (long stay visa) been opening accounts too easily for too long. But as is typical in Thailand, now the classic overcorrection snags even the legit long stay visa holders.

    In the LoS (land of scams) the government seemingly doesn't want to miss an opportunity to open up more avenues to grift tourist. I wouldn't trust any Thai government attempt at crypto (especially where Phuket "little Russia" is involved).

    It was on approach to Phuket... It wasn't forced to land in Phuket. It has 2 engines. Those planes are engineered to fly on 1 engine when necessary.

    There was no report on that point. Reread my original comment. Just saying it would be interesting to know that particular missing detail. They (someone - e.g., husband and/or wife) would have had to acquire the asset (land in this case) before anyone (the husband in this case) could have same sold it. That's how assets sales works. Unless you are selling something you don't own, but that's a different kind of fraud, and not the point of the article.
