  1. How this ends next time is someone gets shot. Too much testosterone all the way around. If you are fighting over a car park, you have lost the plot.
  2. Who cares what the US does or doesn't do. This is Thailand. And if you want to stay more than 60 days you should be required to get a visa. Read the article. TAT has done the research. Tourist (long or short haul) don't stay for more than 30 days. These snowbirds, as you call them, are not tourist, and should have the proper visas.
  3. What they really need to do is refuse entry for anyone attempting back-to-back visa exempt entries (or require at least a 30 day gap between subsequent visa exempt entries)... 30 visa exempt with a 30 day extension while in country is 60 days... that's more than enough for any tourist. If you need more than that you are not a tourist, and you absolutely should be required to get the proper visa from a Thai consulate.
  4. Lies and fraud will always catch up to you eventually... No sympathy for this person.
  5. Still no mention of the charges the elderly where guilty of. In any event, time for these 2 to get out of town while the getting is good.
  6. Counter charges claiming injury and mental anguish? Not from what I saw in the video of the attack. Something is not right, or missing. There was clearly history between these 2 couples. If anything, this should be a cautionary tell to all expats... NEVER engage with any angry Thai - man or woman (although it seems the male attacker might be English, married to a Thai); or more simply do anything you can to avoid getting sucked into the Thai judicial system when the likely complainant is Thai. On its face, it seems the law and courts are siding with/favoring the Thai woman (and her English husband) involved here (maybe she's connected, who knows). Sad AF! And the retirees can't even flee as their passports where confiscated.
  7. All they need is an Airbnb account and they can find 100s (maybe 1000s) of condo owners and their agents offering short term rentals
  8. Lean into a bouncer and prepare to be bounced.
  9. Sadly, Uyghur are persecuted in China. And many want to flee just to find better lives. Thailand had a chance to be better, but in true Thai fashion keeled to their Chinese overlords. Surprised they held out for 10 years, but seeing as all Thailand did has detain (imprison) them, China simply had Thailand on a longer leash than usual. But kneel they did. In the dark of night to hide their shame.
  10. Just what Thailand needs more foreigners toting backpacks begging for food, rides, money... GTFOH.
  11. Par for course, really. Thailand and technology... In this country, technology deployments simply speed up the level of incompetence. Put a system on top of a broken process and all you get is a broken system.
  12. IO corruption and the visa agencies that participate (with them) are THE problem when it comes to people getting a visa that don't qualify for. Nothing new.
  13. Fraud, AML, regulatory compliance, immigration control... there are many reasons countries have these rules (Thailand isn't the only one)... Moreover, if you don't live here you don't need a bank account, and of you do live here, get the correct visa that allows you to open a bank account.
  14. Your reading comprehension is piss poor... Reread the original post... I said those without long stay visas have been getting accounts far to easily for too long (and they should not be)... NonO is a long stay visa and should be able get an account.
  15. In this case, the label is earned.
  16. Necessary, really. People showing up without the correct visa type (long stay visa) been opening accounts too easily for too long. But as is typical in Thailand, now the classic overcorrection snags even the legit long stay visa holders.
  17. Stop it πŸ˜‚ The stated goal is to simplify fund repatriation for Thai citizens. Expats ain't seeing any relief. What is, is. What might be may never come. That's the best you can hope for.
  18. The downward spiral of Phuket continues.
  19. Lock them up in any of Thailand's notoriously nasty prisons. Deportation is too easy.
  20. Sounds like she ended up right where she belongs.
  21. Ain't no one in their right mind who has ever seen potty-ya buying this πŸ˜‚ this is Thais giving awards to Thais #whatajoke
  22. One sided reporting, as usual. There is more to the story than meets the eye.
