Myself, wife and 6 yr old plus her 15 yr old who lives with grandmother in our old house up north....I guess 60,000bht/mo. 15 yr old son is sent 10,000bht/mo to cover household expenses. We live in Ban Chang, Rayong paying for English Program School in payed for house in small beach town.
Our elec is around 1200bht/mo. Food?? We buy at local market mostly. I love BBQ fish, easy to spend 500bht for dinner at market. I don't drink at bars much, a few Leos at home. I retire from sailing next year so I'll start paying attention to our spending habits. I'll have up to 100,000bht/mo coming in but will strive for 60,000bht/mo. School fees, truck ins, beginning of school years and such expenses will put me over.
If I was single 30,000bht/mo would be fine I think.

Great numbers
But "artificial boost"
"The rush by US exporters to beat the imposition of retaliatory tariffs on soybeans by China will provide an artificial boost to second-quarter GDP growth, but will become a potentially significant drag in the third quarter."
"On June 1, a farmer with 1,000 acres of corn and soybeans expected a $42,000 return. Today that return has dropped to a negative $126,000, said Christopher Hurt, an agricultural economist at Purdue University. "

Good things take time, you have to admit we're moving in the right direction. I agree wages need to increase. Not so much the minimum wage as skilled labor. Kids leaving high school need to have a trade. We have a long ways to go.

I have to laugh whenever anyone says they are bored in America, and need to justify a way to come to Thailand.
Because there's like at least 10,000 things you can do in America, that you can't in Thailand.
Having enough money is the key in America, it's the novelty of living in Thailand that's appealing and lower cost of day to day living.

I'm in the Maritime Industry and know several Black sailors who have made Thailand their home with wives and kids. I haven't heard any bad stories of racism towards them. I believe it depends on the person.

Dow Jones is ready to bust 25,000. My 401K is back on track. Haven't got time to read all the non sense, I'm inport for a few hours, busy making money and supporting the USNavy. Looks like his plans for NATO nations to pay more worked. Perhaps not the most tactful but it's the results that counts.

You implied a moment ago that the reason you came here is that you can get away with breaking some Thai laws. People like you should be kicked out, you are actively campaigning against the law.
Have a nice day. At the moment I'm finishing up a nice yellow fin tuna steak in "Parts Unknown" before I head back to my ship.

Thailand want rules, that is why they make them, its not about what an expat wants Thailand to be.
And how they enforce them is up to them.

I gotta agree, if none of these kids are biological, why oh why did you subject yourself to this?

If you want to make Thailand like your home nanny state, why did you come here? Or maybe you didn't......

The UN dues the US pays are a trivial cost for the influence the UN gives us in the world, his policies against illegal immigration are mostly effective in embarrassing the US, his policies on legal immigration will hurt the US economy, and he doesn't call bullshit, he generates it.
Face it, you like Trump because you enjoy the "Trump Show"; you don't bother to inform yourself on the issues.
If it's so trivial let others pay their fair share, his policies on immigration hasn't changed much, just enforcing the laws on the books. I stopped worrying about what others think decades ago, it's called growing up.

I never wear a helmet unless heading for long trip or going on big road for extended trip. Get over it.

I like the fact he's calling out countries for free loading on UN dues, strong on immigration, calling bull shit without being afraid of consequences. That's right, the New Sheriff is here to stay.

My wife and I are trying to discern if my stepson wants to leave our condo to be with his friend or if he wants to stay. I wish he would stay, to be honest, but it's up to him. I know my wife will want him to stay with us, and I'm completely cool with that since he's family. If I had a bigger place, a spare bedroom, it might be feasible for his 'friend' to stick around longer than a month, but that's not the situation.
I regret posting this topic and I've tried to delete it. It brings out the lonely scum of the world who wouldn't understand the kind of tact it takes to make a relationship and a family work. To them, I say, enjoy your bar-stools, losers.
This doesn't require tact it requires backbone. If he's 17 any job he gets will be crap anyway without schooling. As for his friends, get the hell out....no discussion.

Could not do that. Spent a lot of time in the Philippines (married before to one) and not my cup of tea. Philippines is a long way from Thailand. Not much different in many ways but I never had to look over my shoulder and my wife never had to worry about pickpockets here in Thailand. My previous wife was in total awe over the fact when we holidayed in Thailand, she felt safe. Still, I have not been back to the Philippines since 2012 and it might have changed somewhat but I doubt it. Still good price for a beer but cannot stomach pinoy foods. If your a heavy drinker, Phippines is better by a long shot. Cheap gin, half decent rum and beer is good. As you said, the guys are the same all around this world.
Regarding group meetings, another thing I cannot do, just for my wife as we do most stuff together. Having your wife sitting outside with other Thai women is never a grand idea. To much gossip and to much insensitivity between big bananas in the groups. Years and years ago my wife went to such a night with me and she came away horrified. One of the girls had bought a high-end bag from overseas and she showed everyone the price tax receipt.
Such class ...
I'm here because my ship is here for a few days. If PI is all you know then suppose it's alright. I have a lady and child in Thailand. The exchange rate is 53 peso to 1 USD so of course it's cheaper. Still prefer Thailand over PI

I sometimes ride by those bah farangs at 9 or 10 AM after swimming and see guys with their beer glasses and cigs in hand looking bored out of their minds. You can have it in comparison.
Throwing a thai word in doesn't make you smart. I'm sitting in Cheap Charlie's in Barrio Baretta at this very moment drinking 50 peso beers. $1.00 San Miguel light bottles. Not a bad place. These guys are doing the exact same thing as guys in Thailand. chok-dee ahahaaa
