  1. Valid point, I didn't think of that.
  2. Gee, that's a hard one. 90 day reporting that actually works. Retirement visa extensions. OK, not free, I am happy to pay online. Ditto re-entry permits.
  3. Most people are capable of learning, it's whether they want to.
  4. Can't say I have noticed, I tend to focus on the cheeses I regard as good value and taste. MAKRO probably has some blue cheeses, I don't think Stilton is among them. This is a real cheese shop, in St.Andrews, Scotland. You know, the place where golf started.
  5. In Australia, nearly all transactions are cashless. Most shops have touch and go stations. The only reason I draw cash when I am there is to take it back to Thailand. I am comfortable with a debit card for cashless transactions. The cards are in a Faraday cage most of the time. I would be most uncomfortable with phone banking, because IMO it is wide open to be hacked.
  6. I guess you won't be letting us know if you happen to get scammed. What makes you think you are invulnerable?
  7. Social media has enabled the crazies. A lot of the stuff there is anti-science. I am always amused by the long drawn out fight scenes beloved by film makers. Truth is, the average male or female hit in the face would be vomiting up their last meal immediately, and would have headaches for a week. The Second Amendment has become a monster, out of control. Every time there is a school shooting, gun sales go up. Santayana's aphorism writ large.
  8. I don't enjoy the inconvenience of some half-wit at the register who takes several minutes to work out how to pay with their phone. The problem with smartphones- there are a lot of dumb people using them.
  9. Like most initiatives in Thailand, unlikely to happen. Many rural Thais do not have bank accounts.
  10. You only think you got best quality beef. While I have no doubt it was good quality, IME nothing beats beef grown in Gippsland. It's the combination of climate, soil and pasture.
  11. Top End beef is exported from Darwin, Broome and Wyndham. It's close to Asian markets. It has to compete with Argentinian and US producers. OTOH, beef from Gippsland is only exported in limited quantities, due to local demand and the added cost of shipping. Take a look at where Melbourne and Darwin are on a map of Australia, relative to Asia. Maybe then you will understand.
  12. From your posts, I'd say you are quite used to circular arguments.
  13. Vance is strongly against abortion. So is Trump, in a nod to the Christian nationalists. Everyone knows he would sell his own mother for votes. Melania has come out pro-abortion. You don't think that is a significant development, telling Vance to pull his head in?
  14. How would Australians force you to eat Vegemite, and why would they want to? I mostly live on what I or my GF cooks, street food can be a bit of a lottery.
  15. I tend to judge any medical or dental facility by the age of the equipment it has. Such equipment does not come cheap. A high end CAT scanner can be north of $2 million. IMO doctors and dentists can only be as good as their equipment.
  16. Just proves Australians have good immune systems.
  17. I am quite confident any sentence ending in "it's a well-known fact" is utter bullsh!t.
  18. When I was in Hong Kong, I found my palate had been so modified by Thai food the Chinese offerings were bland in comparison. Good luck with the implants, I am sure we will be hearing more.
  19. Englishmen visit everywhere, to get away from their miserable climate. Sometimes they stay, then spend the rest of their lives whinging about how things are so much better in the Old Dart. Yabbies don't get liver fluke. While they do have livers, they are vegetarians, and are not suitable as a host.
  20. You can have an implant done here using Chinese bone graft material, and over the space of a month. Or you can have one done over three months, using premium Swiss bone graft material. Guess which one has a failure rate of less than 5%, and which one fails 30-40% of the time?
  21. Post a link to prove your assertion, then.
  22. Mainland Tasty or Vintage cheese comes from the other direction. Unless you are talking about Stiltons and Bries.
  23. Most comes from the Top End. It's good beef, but can't match the meat in Gippsland, which we keep for ourselves.
  24. British cuisine is nothing to get excited about. The way you treat cabbage seems to consist of boiling it until it is gray. As for the Scots, how they consider haggis to be remotely edible is beyond my comprehension. Actually, there is an Australian cuisine - pavlovas, lamingtons, vanilla slices and real beef pies. We keep the best for ourselves. You've probably never tasted garlic yabbies either. Why should we be ashamed of ourselves? Australian debt as a percentage of GDP is 59%, yours is 85%. How can you be deadbeats, after looting the colonies for so long?
  25. Deflection. Have you ever tasted any of the foods I mentioned? Why do you think Australian beef in the string of restaurants you mention is sold at a premium? We don't have Australian restaurants, we adopt cuisine from other countries just like Phuket does. A properly made Australian beef sausage is as good as any Cumberland, boerewors, chorizo, bratwurst or andouille. You've probably only eaten mass-produced stuff, which I agree isdreck.
