They're embarrassing. I see lots of elderly foreigners, geriatrics riding these hideous vehicles around Pattaya, at speed, not obeying traffic laws etc. They are also dangerous, you sit too low, if you are in your pickup you can't see them, some have a small flag. The only Thai's that use them are frail, elderly women. I'd never be caught dead on one.

Sydney was the best city on the planet but it's changed. I saw many changes, lots of barbaric people arrived in Australia illegally. In the 90's, I worked for projects team, an engineer involved with the City Rail CCTV installion, I was 24hr on call for the police, if there was an incident I would be called out to different locations to download video footage before network was operational. From what I understand, the Thai law forbids sexually active 16yo girls to have sex with males above 18yo, legally, only boys school age can have sex with these girls. School boys don't have money to give these girls to support their families.
