  1. Hi everybody

Could anyone advise me on the air filtering machines ? I am going to buy one soon, but there are many brands around, I saw that some posters reckon the one sold in Thailand are not that good.

So what , and if possible where , to buy, what features and characteristics to look for ?

    Thanks :o:D

  2. It seems extremely difficult to find a new laptop battery, mine is dead as well and even in Bangkok, in the very shop that distributes these laptops, they could not get me one...

I noticed recently that there is a battery repair counter in Amorn (the spare parts shop at Icon square ), there was a guy busy dismantling a wireless drill machine battery, I will go with my battery to see if they can chance the cells. My battery is dead anyway so I might as well try. If it works i will come back here to give you the results.

    Cheers.

  3. Hi

Just came back from work a few days ago and realized tonight that the Soliles, a small French restaurant between Thapae and Changmoi, was closed.

Does anybody here know if they have definitely closed their business, or have they just moved to another location ?

    Thanks :o

  4. Hi

I did some research on the forum, but found nothing really relevant or helpful...

I am married to a Thai lady, and we have been separated for almost 9 years now. We hardly meet as every times it happens , it ends up in a fight...

I am now thinking about divorce, so far I was happy just being away from her.I still live in Thailand.

My problem is that we were married in France ( in 1987 ), and that I am almost never there. My wife lives in Thailand, with my 2 teenager sons.We have never filed our marriage in Thailand.

Is there any way a Thai lawyer can handle the case, as I know for sure my wife will never go back to France (it is a long and complicated process to divorce in France, it takes both time and money...)if I choose a French one.

All advices will be appreciated, thanks.

  5. The other choice is ... Bangkok ( Hifi center or Fortune ) or E-Bay, I just ordered a vintage Pioneer turntable from the US....

I just received myEbay order, it took 45 days to arrive from the US , and it is...broken...Poor packaging preparation, tone armbroken in 2 and beyond repair, and some missing parts...

So I guess ebay is not an option either...

Is there anybody selling a used turntable in Chiangmai ?

    Thanks,

    Phil

  6. Chez Daniel is also very enjoyable, and the owner Daniel is really a character...

Sorry about that but Daniel is despicable. Period.

Despicable ? A harsh statement IMO... I wonder how Daniel has managed to stay opened so many years if it is that bad.. I have been to his Bangkok restaurant many times , and at his Chiangmai place as well, and have always had good if not excellent meals...

  7. I went yeterday night to the Soliles near Thapae road for the 3rd time, and I had a superb meal again, even the french fries are special...Not a great wine selection, but the romanian Merlot they propose is surprinsingly good.

300 bahts for 4, including wine, with a 3 courses meal, try the creme brulee for dessert, the best I have ever eaten...

You have to wait a bit long to get your dishes to arrive but the wait is worth every minutes.

Try it and spread the word, I was sorry to see we were the only occupied table...

Le Coq d'or and le Crystal are both very good, but at prices level which are much higher. Chez Daniel is also very enjoyable, and the owner Daniel is really a character...

  8. Chiangmai is not top for Hifi freaks... Very few shops and limited choice.

I guess the shop mentioned on Prapoklao is Green CD, they have moved near Lanna Hospital , they used to have a decent shop and a good choice of audiophile CD's, and they can order for you what they don't stock. If I remember well, they used to have Rega turntables, needles and tone arms.

I also like to go to visit ST Audio , who sells second hand Hifi, but there also the choice is limited, the owner is very friendly, you can come with your CD's and listen to his stuff. It's in a small soi near Chang Pheuak gate, near the Samsung service center.

Conice is also good but they mostly specialize on NAD, which might be a good choice for an analog LP player, NAD turntables are made by Rega.

The other choice is ... Bangkok ( Hifi center or Fortune ) or E-Bay, I just ordered a vintage Pioneer turntable from the US....

Good luck in your search, hope this helps.

  9. I have also been here 20 years or so, and have been caught twice, once a speeding ticket (132 km/h on Lamphun road, 200 bahts, would have cost me a hefty fine and my driving license in France...) and once caught without driving license on a motorbike, again 200 bahts, the actual 1 hour wait at the police station was more deterrent than the ticket price itself.

As a result, I have now a valid thai driving license and look twice before speeding... We are guests here, the least we can do is to abide by local laws and do not complain if fined when breaking it.

Isn't Thailand a formidable place to stay ?

  10. Hi

A few weeks ago I had a similar problem, overnight my laptop became very slow, and the antivirus did not find anything, although I am still quite sure I got infected by something.

Anyway a friend of mine discovered by opening the task manager that a program called spoolsv.exe was using 99% of the computing power, thus making it soooo slow.. First I was able to manually stop this exe in the task manager, then I found something on internet, just 2 files to erase somewhere and as by miracle, everything came back to normal. The spoolsv.exe has something to see with the printing abilities of your computer, but as soon as I got home, I hooked up my printer and everything worked fine.So far so good.

    Hope this will help, cheers.

  11. Hi Roamp, there also used to be a small electronics repair shop near Tanin market on Chotana, employing disabled technicians, I have been there several times in the past for similar problems, service was quick, efficient and cheap... i am not sure they are still there though, and about their english speaking abilities, eeer, cannot garantee that either.

Otherwise, any big shop ( Niyom, Saha, siam TV...) should be able to fix that, it is probably a small problem.

    Good luck.

  12. There used to be some cats and kittens (although a limited choice ) at the pet shop situated at the basement floor of Central Airport Plaza, which you can access from the parking lot. They also stocked all kind of accessories, food, cleaning stuff etc etc.

    Good luck...

  13. I beg to differ on jackr about Jacky's bike, have been there for years and never had any problems with crap parts, my bike is still running good after 3 years of been maintained there, and to me, service has always been fast and adequate. But I do agree about Top Gear nice place, never been to Chaitawat though.

  14. I was brought by a friend to Jacky's Bike a few years ago, bought him a mountain bike and have been going there since, good ,quick and friendly service, a good range of bikes and accessories, he's got gel saddles ( I got one as well...)

  15. Hi

I am the happy owner of a Dopod 818pro PDA.Only it is sometime impossibly slow...

I know it is possible to upgrade the ROM and that there is a way to overclock it, does anyone knows if it is possible in Chiangmai ?

    Thanks

    Phil

  16. Sirawit Thongphaeng

    Chiropractor - Chiang Mai,

    1 Changmoi Road

    DR (047) 512-422

    Home (053) 874-480

Next to Charral Travel close to downtown Kasem.

Both my wife and I have gone to him several times over past couple of years and he is great. Does both Western and Eastern methods.

    He did good by us.

    Hi Khun TLT

I also need someone to have a look at my back, so I went to try to find M. Sirawit's place but could not.

I did find Kasem Store and Charal Travel, but not the place, could you please be more specific about his location ?

    Thanks

  17. So far no news from the contact found at Khun Churn, which, I agree, is a nice place.

About the place back of Payap, well, go there yourself and make your own opinion, I think the teaching is probably OK ( I have met happy "students"there),but the place is not really appealing to me.

I still have to go and check out the place on Nimanhemin, will try soon.

  18. ... I'll ask some friends. Do you speak Thai? Or do you need a class oriented to farangs?

    :-)

Thanks for all the informations, I went to Khun Churn and enjoyed the buffet ,and have seen the ad posted there about Crane Tai Chi, I am going to contact them.

Suan Bok Had is a bit far for me, I do speak Thai but would not mind a farang course.I have also been told by friends that some people practice Tai Chi on Nimanhemin at the CMU health place, will check that asap too.

  19. Don't know about Balavi Viangping, but yesterday I saw advertisements for a Crane style of Thai Chi/Chi Kong at the Khun Churn vegetarian restaurant, just off Niemenhamen road. (Soi 7 First house on left from Niemenhamen)

Drop in for the best Vegetarian buffet lunch in town (65 Baht) and you should get all your answers there.

Thanks about the info, I will certainly go there again and check this ad.

  20. Hi everybody

Does anybody knows about a place in Chiangmai or around where Tai Chi and/or Chi kong is teached and practised ?

I have checked around this forum and found no informations so far.

Don't mention the Tai Chi center back of Rattanakosin road, I went there and it is kind of messy and untidy, even if the quality of teaching is OK.

Does anybody knows about Balavi Viangping activities (on Tung Hotel road ) ?

    Thanks

    Pilou
