  1. There's a large chain called Index. Good prices on a wide assortment. Don't compare prices of anything to back home, you're not home and you either need it or you don't. Most things here are cheaper than back home.

  2. Peteypie you're absolutely right on the population. Just assumed Cm would be 2nd. Surprised at some of the other cities nos. as well.

  3. Local village tradesmen work this way. It allows you to pick what quality and style of product you wish to use. They generally will charge more if you add or change from the Thai basic way. In larger centres you will find labour and materials included.

  4. Back to the subject, try the local pub. Lady Janes Pub is located down the road from Pailyn Hotel just before river on right hand side. You can borrow books for free, have a couple beers and pick your books. Quite a good selection.

  5. Don't know what you like to watch on tv but take a good look at what is available in Eng. Not a fan of UBC but it is the only thing that resembles cable back home. It's expensive compared to buying dish but something to watch. Most of us sold our dishes when UBC started years back, sold mine for 2,000bht another buddy got a bag of charcoal for his.
