Minimum level of Thai knowledge and language for long term residents

ChatGPT agrees that more COVID vaccination --> more cases
LosLobo replied to Red Phoenix's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
So, let me get this straight: you're using a chatbot—not peer-reviewed science—to validate your anti-vaccine narrative? Feeding selective data into ChatGPT and claiming it ‘agrees’ with you is like shouting your own echo into a cave and calling it proof. If you want credibility, try citing actual epidemiologists instead of a Substack rant from a professional contrarian. -
What happens when Hegseth needs to wake Trump at 3 a.m. to advise on tactical action for nukes in flight to the US, after passing out drunk at the DC local strip club?

Wow, the day after MAGA's John Ratcliffe was confirmed as CIA Director, this report drops —who would’ve thought? The CIA now claims COVID is 'more likely' to have originated in a lab but admits they have ‘low confidence’ in the report. Whatever MAGA suggests, it’s clear it could still go either way—live animal market or lab—and there’s no conclusive evidence, nor is there likely to be. All this theatrical Kabuki just to pin the blame on Fauci and distract from Trump’s catastrophic COVID failures? Pure deflection at its finest.

Minimum level of Thai knowledge and language for long term residents
LosLobo replied to PomPolo's topic in General Topics
I'm playing the devil's advocate here: If you haven’t yet adopted Thai as an alternative language, wouldn’t you have everything to gain? Your 'Therefore' is a non sequitur and doesn’t make sense. Is English your first language? There’s no logical connection between Thailand adopting English as an alternative official language and requiring long-term visa applicants to be fluent in either Thai or English. And if you aren’t fluent in both French and English, I’d find that equally amusing. -
The price is not the same everywhere in the world and has increased not decreased! The recent surge in egg prices is not politically driven but stems from the bird flu outbreak, which has also been detected in cows, raw milk, and subsequently infected cats. However, Trump, much like during COVID—when he undermined health agencies such as the CDC—is once again politically interfering. Previously, Biden's CDC provided guidance to producers, agencies, and hospitals on responding to the bird flu outbreak. Trump, however, has now imposed a blanket communication ban on the CDC, halting critical updates amidst a crisis that has already resulted in the deaths of over 130 million birds in the U.S. This move raises significant concerns about public health and safety as the epidemic continues to impact egg prices and poses a growing threat to human health. Trump’s administration has promoted laissez-faire food and agricultural policies, including advocating for raw milk despite its health risks. Such policies, coupled with his current restrictions, risk exacerbating the crisis—threatening chicken, egg and milk production and prices while increasing the potential for the bird flu to spread further, including to humans.

And yes, this hire was undoubtedly not DEI but based on meritocracy. After all, how could a white, Christian, nationalistic, misogynistic alcoholic with no qualifications or experience be anything but the perfect candidate?

From Trump's Executive Order: 'The American people deserve transparency and truth.' It's not about the American people or truth—Trump declassifying these assassination documents is all about him, the two attempts on his life, and his martyrdom. Waiting for The Third Testament to drop. Unredacted Mueller and Jack Smith reports on January 6th and the classified documents case? Now that’s transparency—and relevance.

Australian Aged Pension
LosLobo replied to VOICEOVER's topic in Australia & Oceania Topics and Events
Most retired Australians don’t receive a government superannuation pension; that benefit is typically limited to former government public servants. Instead, most retirees are likely to rely on the Aged Pension and/or their own private superannuation, allocated pensions, or annuities. As a result, Article 19 of the Double Tax Agreement (DTA) may not be applicable; it’s more likely that Article 20 would apply in these cases. To play devil's advocate here, it’s possible that the Aged Pension could be subject to taxation. With respect to private superannuation payments, I would suggest that only the income or gains earned in 2024, rather than the original capital or gains accrued up to 2023, would be taxable. -
Comedians mocked him – He handed them punchlines on a silver platter. Presidents ridiculed him – Respect isn’t given to chaos; it’s earned through leadership. Corrupt politicians impeached him – Impeached for his corrupt actions. Bureaucrats investigated him – Because crimes don’t investigate themselves. They indicted, raided, booked, and mugshot him – Accountability isn’t persecution. He was even shot, survived... – Fictional martyrdom won’t make him a hero.

I agree. Can that include being part of a cult?

A year or so ago I watched a modern German wartime movie, Phoenix (2014), where this song was featured. I then remembered my mother singing this song when I was an infant over 70 years ago. It must have been deep in my subconscious, and when I heard it again, it kept playing over and over in my mind until I recently found it again on YouTube. There are many versions--it was made popular in my mother's time by her favorite, Frank Sinatra, and later by his wife, the stunner Ava Gardner. Here is Ava's version.

A former authoritarian and oppressive regime in the 1930s started by using laws and policies to deny the existence and rights of individuals who didn’t conform to their rigid ideals of 'biological norms' under their Rassenhygiene or 'racial purity' policy. And we all know how that ended for them.

Eureka! The man who cracked the mystery of 'US' being 'us' will now prepare to unveil the groundbreaking revelation that water is wet. Truly, a modern-day Socrates and 'very stable genius,' redefining brilliance one bl**dy obvious fact at a time—because, of course, culture wars are more important than addressing the cost of living, the very reason he’s POTUS.

Trump just said he is going to pardon the J6 "hostages".

Obviously, Trump went rogue today! 'If you committed violence on that day obviously you shouldn't be pardoned ....... we are very much committed to seeing the equal administration of law'. Right! (0:35) 'Peaceful protesters should be pardoned but violent criminals should not'. Right! (12.20) -

Where is your evidence that Chuck Schumer has accepted his preemptive pardon -- or did you just make that up? -

LosLobo replied to thaibeachlovers's topic in Political Soapbox
Irony at its finest.... some here are quick to slam Biden for pardoning Fauci, Milley, and the Jan. 6th committee members—none of whom broke any laws—yet they’re all in for Trump pardoning the very people who stormed the Capitol on January 6th. Millions of us watched live as violence, destruction, and chaos unfolded. Did you see police officers being assaulted, or not? Clearly a serious case of cognitive dissonance. You can’t criticize Biden for defending public servants doing their jobs, while cheering Trump’s call to pardon those who tried to overthrow democracy. Either you stand for the rule of law, or you don’t. -

LosLobo replied to riclag's topic in Political Soapbox
By the way, Gerald Ford, a Republican—and in your words, a blatant hypocrite—was the first to issue a preemptive pardon, most notably for Nixon. As for the Constitution, Article II, Section 2 grants the president broad power to issue pardons, with no requirement for post-conviction. It simply states the president can pardon 'for offenses against the United States,' except in cases of impeachment. -

LosLobo replied to riclag's topic in Political Soapbox
Burdick speaks to guilt on acceptance, but the precedent of Ford’s 1974 pardon of Nixon was a preemptive pardon as are these—no conviction, no guilt to confess. It was a strategic move to avoid a trial, not an admission of crime, and acceptance is not conditional or required. -

Seems you failed to read the article that the OP was based on. So, you decided to opine on a topic you admittedly don’t comprehend, armed with nothing but misplaced confidence and a complete lack of reasoning. Bravo. Perhaps you could honor the effort your college lecturers invested in your education by respecting facts, logic, and basic intellectual rigor instead of diving headfirst into topics beyond your ken. I admit I was remiss in not providing a full analysis of your logical missteps earlier but considering your self-professed struggle with my 'word salad,' it seems in retrospect that keeping things simple was the better approach. However, since you’ve requested it, here’s your analysis: False Equivalence: In your post, you compare preemptive pardons to the typical notion of pardons (given after conviction). But these two things are not truly equivalent. Preemptive pardons are authorized by a president's discretion before any crime is proven or even committed. Comparing this to regular pardons, which are only granted after conviction, creates a false equivalence, as they serve different legal purposes and are applied under different conditions. Begging the Question: You’re essentially assuming that preemptive pardons are invalid simply because they don't match the standard understanding of pardons (i.e., after a conviction). This creates a circular argument, where the premise is assumed to be true without support. In other words, you’re suggesting preemptive pardons don’t make sense because they don’t fit your understanding of how pardons work—without actually addressing the legal framework or history behind them. So, the flaws in your reasoning stem from misunderstanding the nature of preemptive pardons and assuming they’re wrong just because they’re unfamiliar to you. Preemptive pardons are a legitimate legal tool designed to protect against potential misuse of power, not an admission of guilt. I hope this helps clear things up! -

With respect, was your problem failing comprehension in primary or logic in your degree? Your post clearly shows a lack of understanding of the meaning of preemptive pardons and the reasoning failures of a false equivalence and begging the question fallacy.
