  1. I retired at 47 years old after working for a large American company for 25 years. Now I receive a pension each month, four times a year I receive dividends from 5 different investments (20 total payments) and monthly I earn interest on each of my savings and money market accounts.  My total expenses for our home (I'm married to lovely Thai woman) including cars, motorbike, groceries, utilities, dining, pet care, entertainment, etc, have never exceeded 40,000 baht a month (this does include our international travel expenses.). But according to this new rule I would have to bring into the country an additional 25,000 each month to qualify for a retirement visa? This seems like a losing proposition to me. I really don't see how this is a better option than just putting ฿400K into a Thai bank?  But what's really concerned me is in a few years I will begin collecting social security and then in another 10? years I will be forced to withdrawal money from my retirement savings accounts. Why does the US and now the Thai gov't want me to spend money when I have no need for it?

  3. most of these women look like monsters. what's that on their head? Is it hair? Is it real? I must smell like cigarettes and old mackerel.

It's like a trip to Jurassic Park looking at them.  Their feet are so big and broad shoulders. Are these all women or is it mixed men and women?

if i walked down a street or into a bar in Pattaya with a load of these monsters I'd feel very unsafe.

  4. the only thing sadder than this, is the victim mentality that always see's faults but never works toward a constructive solution.

well, what is sadder is that this is the same political opinion rubbish the folks in Venezuela were bombarded with for years, now look at them. The people that promote this garbage should go there to live. ty thaivisa.

    Merry Christmas

  5. This isn't a big deal for most folks. the decline in market valuation effects those with money.  the swing in the market isn't going to effect most of the low/middle class, it might even help them if they are saving into a retirement fund.  if you get dividends they may be lower next quarter, maybe not. this is a rich man's tax and not a middle class problem.

    Merry Christmas

  6. "Putin correct again....he is a genius. Yes, the US is raising the threat of nuclear war. The warmongering Neo-cons in Washington and London want a war with Russia, but they want a conventional war which they think they can easily win. Putin is signalling that there can be no conventional war, he will use nukes if he has to."

    neo-cons in Washington create value.

Putin has spent a lifetime creating an empire.

according to ur logic, a genius would use nuclear weapons to destroy mankind in defense of saving their personal empire. This sounds like a madman.

    Merry Christmas

Interesting point and I do wonder how much they make. Most Thai banks have a quite poor track record (compared to other countries) in terms of overdue / never paid commercial loans, mortgages, car loans, and credit cards debt is enormous, one of the worst, by country, in the world, so yes an interesting question in terms of what returns they make when they use your / my deposits to try to make money.

the premium earned on loaned money is called interest. Banks make money by charging customers interest on loans and people who save money in banks get paid interest. Something to consider is that nearly all the "legal (aka taxed)" money in the world spends most of the time in a bank somewhere.

  8. --- "I do not want to put 800k in a thai bank however, too many horror stories over the years."---

More bs... I've never heard of a thai bank taking some farang's 800k bank deposit.

What you should be fearful of is that very soon the deposit requirement will go up to 1 million baht.

The good news is, that those who currently have 800K on in a thai bank will be "grandfathered in". and meet the new requirement.

    Enjoy Vietnam
