I actually clicked through on this with great surprise thinking a Thai General had been prosecuted but then obviously very quickly realized this simply does not happen in Thailand.

These jumps are after accounting for the discount. My missus said many of the Thai's are throwing around theories that the electricity authorities are somehow fixing the readings to get back some of the money lost due to the recent discounts but I can't see that. I remember exactly the same thing happened same time last year so most likely it is due to the hot weather.

Well this is a bit of a strange one.
Electricity bills arrived this morning - everyone in the village commenting in the village Line group that they have seen a 40% jump in electricity usage and bills. We have also seen our usage and bill jump... even though we have spent roughly a week away. My wife just told me that many people across the country experienced the same thing and voiced this on the electricity authority's FB page.
A representative of the electricity authority has apparently explained why this has happened. Now I am not sure about my wife's translation but she is telling me the authority have said that the extreme hot weather has adversely affected the dynamo/power box that sits outside each house making it have to work much harder.... hence the higher bills. Can someone shed some light on this... has my missus got this right? The whole thing just sounds a little odd to me...

'not wearing a helmet'.... classic!!!! The Thai's have no appreciation of irony do they!

This is exactly why the govt tried their hardest to supress the real numbers of covid infections... this is quite simply down to their decision to publicly encourage people to travel for songkran.

That sounds horrendous. I had to provide copies of every page of my bank book last time around which I could not understand as never needed before (and required to only show 2 months worth).
My extension is coming soon - can feel the tension building already. Worst day of the year for me.

These daily figures Thailand are releasing are completely false and manufactured (most likely because the govt don't want to be blamed for telling the public to go and enjoy songkran without restrictions). The hospitals are turning people away for testing, there are people on tv saying they been waiting for days to go into isolation... and yet averaging 1500 a day across the nation. Do me a favour! Triple it and then maybe double it and you might be closer to the truth.

you could try Thai watsadu. They seem to sell everything trade related.

I get pretty annoyed when true show French movies with no English subtitles (and no dubbing in Thai) so the only people that get to enjoy the film are the few thousand French speaking expats. Talk about dumb...

there is little doubt now that covid will rage here in Thailand. Very sad... could have been avoided. But wasn't. Just hoping and praying now that we don't go down the same road as Brazil or Mexico. This is my fear.

This chap is in total denial. Firstly, we all know that covid is now out of control. Secondly, there is absolutely no way in a millions years that Thailand will now open as planned. And thirdly, who will want to come here when they see the sky high stats of covid infections that will materialize shortly. Total. Denial.

I just finished watching it on Netflix. After the first episode I nearly binned it as I thought it was a bit lightweight with poor acting. However, glad I stuck with it because it does tell a fascinating tale and I was pretty gripped.
Now. Whilst I deplore everything about this man and his actions, leaving aside his psychotic personality - am I the only one that did have a slight feeling of admiration? I couldn't help thinking that his unwavering self belief, ambition, ability to charm and manipulate was something else. Had he channeled his efforts into a legitimate business - this is a guy that would have been hugely successful.

...if all the prevention rules are followed (starting after Songkran)!!! Seems reasonable. Idiots.

Well I'm confused. My wife has been telling about this story and how all the netizens are criticizing the reporter for approaching the 'pet' monkey after the many warnings from the owner that the monkey is NOT friendly. In the above report is states that the owner kept telling her the monkey IS friendly.
Either way, for me it's not important but when I asked my wife how many of the Thai netizens had questioned why the monkey was being kept as a 'pet' in the first place.... needless to say I was met with a blank expression and a 'what does that have to do with anything' face!
Why do they always focus on the wrong thing here!

This topic is making really angry. I am angry with the Thai parents feeding their kids kfc, mcdonalds and fizzy drinks all day every day. I even see them giving it to them for breakfast... its a disgrace. I go into school with my son and the younger kids are mostly fat or obese. They need educating.... and quick! They are wrecking their kids lives... sounds dramatic but its true and its very sad.

Nonthaburi Immigration did receive some very bad public press recently (about corruption) and I wonder if the new faces had been brought in to combat this. Either way its a step in the right direction but I guess only time will tell!

I'm always quick to criticize Nonthaburi Immigration so thought it only fair to give them a little credit when due. Nothing major but there seems to be a few new faces behind the desks and I found them to be helpful and polite. In and out in 5 minutes for my 90 day report. The chap I dealt with spoke good English and was happy to answer my questions about my next visa extension. Thumbs up... hope I won't be disappointed come extension day in a few months!!!

Seeing all the fat children about these days I think they should take them off their parents too and set them free in the jungle.
On the odd occasion I pop into mcdonald's for a breakfast special after dropping my son off at school. And I always see parents in there feeding their kids burgers, fries and coke for their breakfast before dropping them off to school. And then they wonder why their kids are obese with black stumps for teeth. Its very sad how blind these parents are to the damage they are doing to their children's health.
When I go to school to collect my son I'm shocked at how overweight the children are... it's like 80% of the kids... it's like people here accept it as the norm.

How absolutely selfish of this man to try and deny this poor animal a proper environment to live in rather than this tiny cage. Where is the common sense and decency. His attitude reminds me of that Thai fella who owns the Pata Mall zoo where he has kept that gorilla for more than 20 years... he was begged by some wildlife organization for the release of that gorilla into a sanctuary but he refused saying that he keeps the animals in a run down mall because he is an 'animal lover'. These types of people make me sick with their views so distorted from reality.

Watched dumb-struck at the test centre last week, as a 20 something yr old girl failed the brake test twice, as she had to look down at her feet to work it out. 3rd attempt just about passed and started jumping around excitedly clapping herself !
haha i witnessed the same thing a few years back when I had to get my Thai license. I was amazed at people failing this emergency brake test.... there is just something in the Thai genetic makeup that makes them avoid braking at all costs!!!

Judging by the expensive looking gear they are wearing I wouldn't be surprised if they are fairly well-to-do Thai's rather than a 'gang'.

Covid cluster happened after woman from Ratchada "service establishment" came to visit for a som tam party

not sure if I missed something in the article but how do they know that the 'service provider' was the cause of the covid cluster. I mean, is there proof or have they simply pointed the finger at her because of her profession?
