Look at the infographic! It is literally a pyramid scheme. ????

I was going to write exactly the same thing - you beat me to it. Its laughable that they actually show a pyramid in the advert but the thing is over here pyramid schemes are almost seen as a legitimate investment... which is even more laughable. Now if you excuse me I am just on my way out to a seminar for a forex trading opportunity. No experience required, guaranteed 10% return each month - what can go wrong!

  2. Yep happened to me last year was kicking myself! Immigration really couldn't care less and just an opportunity for them to relieve you of some cash. They quoted me 2k but I ended up paying 1k (with no receipt). Not sure if the 1k is an option anymore as passports now go to the supervisor to get stamped. Either way it really is nothing for you to worry about.

Yes she's a  witness of all this but afraid too

If my wife had been there she would have screamed the place down.... just 6 months ago they tried to fine me 2k for not being able to provide a piece of paperwork (i forget what for), my wife looked her in the eye and mentioned reporting her to the police for corruption and she got quite flustered and magically the 2k was all forgotten.

Don't pay the bribe. Next time you are in there to do the extension have your phone out and record the whole thing. If he mentions the 20k you got him by the balls.

  4. I was very impressed with the managers role in all of this...hmmm she didn't think to ask what was going on!??

"The branch bank manager told investors (off the record) on Tuesday that she had no idea about the situation and hadn’t asked any questions about the hundreds of investors queueing up to visit Mr. Gob at the start of each month."

Classic Thai response... "what? Nothing to do with me - I'm only the manager!"

  5. This could have been a localised directive where some do-gooding offical had a bright idea to ban farang - happens all the time. During the first wave when massage places were still open my wife and I went to a local massage shop in Nonthaburi. The lady there told my wife that she could have a massage (she is Thai) but I could not... some local official had instructed her 'no farang' allowed for massage. The following week it was all forgotten and I was allowed to have my massage.

  6. The average Thai is a bad driver, they rarely stay in a lane for starters... but i don't think its their fault. I put it down to the learning and testing system in place. It's laughable. And whats even more laughable is the govts repeated attempts at these silly public declarations at tackling the Thai roads but never actually changing the learning and testing system. Honestly it beggars belief.... its so blindingly obvious at how to start fixing the problem but it never gets done. #shameonthegovt (thats twice i used that hashtag today - i wonder how many more)

  7. Okay so here goes my little gripe... it's not major but has quadrupled my waiting time at immigration from 10 - 15 mins to aprox 1 hour and it seems completely pointless. Just wondering if this is the same everywhere or only Nonthaburi?

I use Nonthaburi Immigration. Its a small building and the 90 day report used to take about 10 minutes. The process was very simple: get a ticket - wait for your turn - provide passport to officer, get a stamp/ paper - finished. Time taken 10 - 15 minutes.

So now the process goes as follows: get a ticket - wait for your turn - provide passport to officer - leave passport with officer and take a seat - watch officer continue to see more people and collect their passports in a nice little pile on his/her desk - then see pile of passports moved to the back office and presumably sit on supervisors desk for about 30 minutes - pile of passports come back out and handed back (with stamp/paper) - finished. Time taken aprox 1 hour.

So, has anyone else experienced the same or is it just good old Nonthaburi that has decided to create a system that takes 4 to 5 times longer than the previous one!!??

Thanks for the link, while it is clear the Swede was at fault, I must add that also the white MuX and the black car behind it were at fault also. Both were driving in the u-turn lane and crossed a solid line and a crossed out block on the road. These people were also speeding as the maximum speed on bypass road is 50km/h and they were clearly going faster than that. Possibly the Swede moved to the middle lane as the white car was coming at high speed in the wrong lane at him?

Below a screenshot of the video clearly showing the white MuX driving in the u-turn lane and crossing the solid line (illegal):

And below a screenshot from the video showing the black Pajero (?) coming up on the right (you can just see the bonnet of the car) while that is not a lane for passing and he is clearly going over the "crossed out block" (illegal).

Happy nobody got seriously injured and i hope all 3 drivers learned a lesson as they were all at fault!

Yep - i think we would all agree with these points. But here's the thing - when driving in Thailand you HAVE to assume that the other drivers (Thai's mostly) will not be taking any of these factors into account and therefore you MUST factor this into your driving.

I think this example clearly shows the dangers of Thai roads. All collisions and road accidents here are hugely magnified here because a) Thai's drive at very high speeds b) they have no concept of braking distances c) they don't seem to react to any possible dangers until it is way too late.

    Which all means a fairl

I think the U-turn road layout markings are confusing....

Where I am the U-turn has a catch lane on the far left, meaning, a slow moving U-turn ride can dash into that far left lane so faster moving traffic can pass and the slow ride can build up speed to join the carriage way.

From what I see, the U-turn markings tell the U-Turn driver to stay in the fast lane because oncoming traffic have been told to stay on the left.

So, it is a daft road layout that caused the accident, the Swede did what we all normally do and dive off to the far side catch lane, the Isuzu did what he thought he should do, the black ride was being a bit of a tool not understanding the strange road markings......

Agreed. The markings are very dangerous.

  9. Here is the link. I agree - the Swede is to blame, don't know what he was thinking making that manoeuvre when cars were approaching so fast... and to then go across lanes... well it was always going to end badly. I did think the black car on the right hand lane could have avoided any collision by simply braking a lot quicker but they seemed to not react at all until the white 4x4 got bumped into their lane.
