yep, greed and gullability (if that is a word). I told aunties and friends (neither of which were poor or desperate for money) to stay away from these schemes many many times but they chose to ignore and they constantly tell my missus how much money they are earning and then suddenly you hear nothing more from them. Then eventually we find out that they lost their money and when the missus asks how much they suddenly change the subject or give a very vague answer!!! ???? But I bet they will still be willing to pay into the next scheme that comes along.

Hahaha what an absolute joke.... it's hardly oceans 11 is it... more like a couple of meth heads that stole some loose change and a few amulets!!! Embarrassing, absolutely embarrassing!

poor guy, to have everything ripped away from you by your own flesh and blood! I'm guessing he paid for her to complete here studies in Bangkok only to be repaid like this.

these defamation laws are absolutely crazy to the point where reporting a crime can see you being sued and jailed by the criminal as happened to that reporter who reported on a big food company using slave labour. Even though the company was found guilty and the employee's were rescued and compensated (due to the brave actions of the reporter), the company then had the reporter jailed for bringing the whole case to light. Absolutely astounds me that this could happen and continues to happen.

we used to buy a couple of kilos of oranges every week but over the last month the price has steadily risen from 80 baht a kilo to 160 baht a kilo... so no more oranges! Other items have gone up in our local market but as others have posted here i don't buy into the 'inflationary pressures' BS... it is simply sellers using it as an excuse to jack prices up and cash in.

well that's strange, I did include a FB page link and a google maps link in the original post but I can now see it is missing... maybe they have been removed for breaching site rules. The shop is at 59 Ram Buttri Road (a small road just off of Khao Sarn Road - has some nice restaurants and cafes too). Best bet is to use google maps if unsure! It's worth the trip as there's not many places selling books for as little as 90 Baht!

I've never bought through their FB page but it could be worth messaging them with a few favoured authors and asking them what titles they have. The owner speaks good English too.

Don't know if it is still the same but Manchester used to be run by street gangs. Many years ago when i was a student in Manchester my mate worked in one of the designer clothes shops. He told me on a regular basis gang members would try on the most expensive stone island coats and then casually say "I'll take this one" and just walk out the shop without paying. In the end they had to start employing gang members to stand on the door as security. Crazy!

Not sure if I am allowed to do this or not but just wanted to help out a local business that I frequent often. I know that from passing conversations they are really struggling since covid. They buy and sell second hand books (mostly English language fiction) and have a pretty wide selection of books with prices averaging around 100 baht for a book! Based just off of Khao Sarn Road, shop name is Book Lovers. I often go when I am looking for a good read to take to the beach.

similar thing happened to my wife's friend. She used to get large amounts of cash out to pay staff for their business but noticed quickly it was always short when she re-counted it. Turned out to be the her sister-in-law stealing from them (who was staying with them). What really rubs salt into the wound is that the sister-in-law ran up close to 10m baht worth of debts that my wife's friend and her husband must take responsibility for (pressure from the husbands mother to be a good son and look after his sister). So not only are this couple paying off the sister-in-law's debts but the sister-in-law is stealing from them too. But in typical Thai style all is forgiven and onwards they go...

an old acquaintance of mine got mixed up in some kind of call center boiler room scam whilst in Bangkok (selling worthless shares) some years back. He told me that his boss was a colonel in the RTP... say's it all really!

Its a total gimmick anyway... would have made sense to run the skywalk out across the river but instead it simply runs along the side of the river by the pathway. Seems a bit pointless to me.

this director has missed a trick... he should get the students exercising by retrieving the golf balls for him and his buddies. He could also have the older students serving food and drinks. All for the students benefit of course!

The victim was a warehouse guy. I'm guessing that the wife arranged and paid for the resort... probably didn't tell the poor guy about her psycho husband too!

I imagine that when bullying does occur in Thailand it is very difficult to resolve as the schools here will not do much for fear of upsetting parents or damaging their school reputation. My friend's son had a knife held to his face by an older girl at his new school. The school did nothing and brushed it off saying that the girl comes from a problem family. The school even said to my friends wife (the mother of the kid being bullied) that she was making too big a deal of it and asked her to withdraw her report she'd made to the local police. Absolute disgrace! Now if this kid was being bullied and was getting zero support from no-one it might explain his actions. We just don't know the full story.

absolutely right. This is why Thailand will never progress due to the wrong people in power at all levels across all sectors. The system here is broken beyond repair.

The makro's in nonthaburi sell mince beef at the meat counter (I think most makro's sell it). I think last time I checked it was around 180 Baht a kilo but that was a month or two ago (price could have gone up since).

I'm not making them up. That is what the industry experts are predicting for next year.

Disclaimer: my mother-in-law is the most trusting, gullible and easily manipulated person on the planet. She blindly follows fortune tellers advice, lends money she doesn't have, invests in scams/businesses etc - you name it - she has done it 10 times over. And still she never learns. The mother-in-law (mil) has been holed up in her wealthy best friends house for the past month or two. Both of them not daring to leave due to the arrival of a 'trusted' friend who has a 'special' ability to connect to the spirit world, I guess you could say she was some kind of clairvoyant. This lady (clairvoyant) arrived with her two friends in tow and advised the mil and her friend that they both could die soon and that the only way to avoid their fate was to meditate for hours daily and drink the 'blessed' water that she provided them. One evening they were all sat eating together and the mil felt unwell, it's not clear from the explaination but either she couldn't breathe or was choking on food but she very nearly died (according to the mil). The best friend was constantly feeling drowsy and could never think straight. One day she went out and was convinced that she came close to being hit by two different cars so she immediately went back to the house for more meditation. Convinced that they both had narrowly avoided death they continued to follow their friend's advice. They felt very lucky that their friend was there to help them through this period. Whilst meditating for hours on end and drinking the 'blessed' water they were told not to answer the phone or answer messages as this could have a negative effect on the all the mediation they were doing. Whilst all this was going on the clairvoyant had convinced the mil's best friend (house owner) to move into the small spare room and let the clairvoyant and her two pals stay in the master bedroom. They were now staying rent free, eating food and not spending a penny or lifting a finger to help around the house. They used the maid as if they owned the house. This continued for a month or two. Then the best friend had to attend a family ceremony in the South and whilst there she noticed that rather miraculously she no longer felt the drowsiness and fuzzy thinking. She began to feel like her old self. Hmmnnnn, the penny drops! But not being 100% sure about what was actually going on and being typically Thai and not wanting to speak direct, she politely tried to get them to leave. They weren't budging. Finally the best friends sister went to the house and found the three stooges there living it up and threw them out. There was a lot of cursing and black magic spells being thrown about from the 'clairvoyant' at being so rudely treated. But at least they were out. Now come's the hard bit. My missus must speak to the mil and find out if she loaned the 'clairvoyant' any money!

i mean, he probably is telling the truth and thought that the dog would have moved but whenever I have been in this situation I have slowed or stopped until I have seen the dog appear either side of the car so I know for sure. Most people with common sense and/or a caring nature would do the same. I don't have a lot of sympathy for him as he should have been more vigilant.

Here in Nonthaburi I have been to my local restaurants a few times now (one's that were doing a roaring trade before and during covid) and they have been fairly empty. Not sure if it was just bad timing on my part or if this is a sign of things getting bad economically.

I live in Thailand and had been seriously considering a move back to the UK mostly for my son's education and for a better family life (grandparents, lots of uncles, aunts, cousins). But now am unsure as I understand that the average energy bill in the UK will rise to aprox 500 GBP per month!!! Add to that the impending interest rate rises and rising food prices I honestly don't think I can afford to move back. Crazy times!

why don't you get a Thai person to sit with you and help you answer.
