In theory it might, but the small farmers who raise the cattle are not setting the prices.

So it is difficult to say if a temporary price increase for the consumer would benefit the local farmers.

So it seems I was right... I pointed out the control of imported beef could drive up prices, is the higher prices now benefiting local farmers?

  2. Best approach ever... Don't test. Thailand either has some very forward thinking people or the fact that they were not able to do a mass testing program is what has Thailand looking the best by the numbers (statistics).

One protocol that underpins all other responses to this... don't test. If you don't test there is no emergency for the non-emergency. In other words don't create an emergency when there is none. And for those of you that think there is a legitimate emergency going on.... do this for me, go to ANY emergency room or ICU ANYWHERE in the world and tell me... is there an emergency there? I'll give you the answer, as I happen to know. No, there is no emergency there.

What is the time frame for visa exempt allowed? I want to come in then transfer to retirement based on banked funds 800,000 baht.

I will do quarantine 2 weeks no problem, prefer doing it in Chiang Mai. Will there be direct international flights by high season?

Gotta get out of this madhouse country..

There is a very defined group of foreigners being allowed in... you will need to contact your embassy to find out if you qualify... they will have all the info you need. Currently there is no visa exempt being allowed.

  4. Sounds like those that are required to have a clean bill of health, including a negative pre-flight covid test, are being put a risk of being exposed when coming over on the plane. Something to consider when you shell out close to 100,000 baht in total some are reporting. Only to get exposed on the plane with people who have no medical examination or test... You then popping positive or become symptomatic... guess what you get sent to the hospital... with more expenses. I would say unless you really need to get back to Thailand, I would wait a bit.

Thank you for the report. I'm still waiting to get home to my wife and home in Bangkok. UK embassy won't give a COE without a flight booking or ASQ booking and when I asked them for a list of repatriarion flights so that I could book on one of them I was told Thais only, wait for a commercial flight. Then the Embassy told me not to book a commercial flight because they aren't allowed into Thailand yet, so go figure. Haven't seen my wife for 6 months now. Jan 2020 when she went back to Bangkok and got stuck by the Covid event.

Many have reported booking a flight just to get into the COE process and the flight gets cancelled without you doing anything and you will be refunded. They were then given options for the "repatriation" flights.

  6. I would have your wife explain that you will pay the 3 months of mortgage payments should the loan not be extended... that would be the right thing to do. However, you can't pay their mortgage forever right. You could broach the subject again in the future if they are still unable to make the payments at a later time... then offer up that you can't simply keep making their payments for them beyond a certain point... my limit would be somewhere between 3-6 months and then you're going to have to hire a lawyer to work out what you are proposing. Having a neutral arbitor for dealings, especially family, is a good way of keeping potential issues flaring.

I would say about 30 total in the airplane, almost all were in business class, I think I saw a family with 2 kids going to economy class and another couple. The flight seemed pretty full but since I didn't walk in economy I am not sure if they filled every seat or not. I would say there were roughly 300 people on the flight, but the plane continued to Jakarta after Bangkok, so I would say 200 stopped at Bangkok including ~25 foreigners.

Ahh... so this is not a "repatriation" flight if the flight had a second leg of passengers.... I would expect a "repatriation" flight to be dedicated to only traveling one way for the stated purpose only. So people having a hard time getting flights are due to other secondary passengers. Not too mention, being pushed into the business class at an inflated price. I wonder if all flights are being handled this way?

  8. Take your current cost of lifestyle and be prepared to:

    Rough estimate:

Add 2% annually for inflation (unless your pension plan does this)

Add 2% annual safety margin for potential changes in exchange rate

Add 2% annually for annual rising of out of pocket medical expenses and/or rising insurance rates

Finally, you must keep a large amount set aside for emergency health costs, especially when you approach the age of 75, currently the policy is you will not be eligible to enroll in any health insurance.

  9. You somehow missed the warning on the very first page of the online application.

In order to travel to Thailand, you will need BOTH a visa AND Certificate of Entry (COE). E-tickets for a regular commercial flight may be used to apply for a visa. However, ONLY repatriation flights are allowed to enter Thailand. You must submit both E-ticket for one of the repatriation flights AND booking comfirmation for Alternative State Quanrantine (ASQ) before Certificate of Entry (COE) can be issued.

  10. I've always sent to my son, in email after completing the .pdf 1040 and 2555 forms... He just prints and signs my name for me and sends it off to the Texas address by snail mail. ???? Looking at my SS statement they still haven't process 2017, 2018, 2019... that's beuaracracy for you. And of course I did not receive any stimulus check, because I don't e-file.
