THANK you! I am not a daily drinker, but when the itch hits I want to scratch it. I NEVER drink and drive. I live in Jomtien, and used to love going to LK Metro where I would get a room at Sutus Court for the night. I'd go out, have my fun, then stagger back to my safe haven. Tell me I can't get a beer and I want to get one that much more. That's just human nature, I'm not alone here.

I can't let this kind of ignorance fly.
Flu kills between 250-500,000 people worldwide per year
https://www.medscape.com/answers/219557-3459/what-is-the-global-incidence-of-influenza between 20,000 and 41,000 per month. So far Covid has killed approx. 233,000
in the space of 2 months WITH lockdown. That makes it 5 times more deadly than the worst flu year. Mortality through flu is widely accepted as 0.1%, so even if Covid deaths were only 1% (a very low number with most experts agreeing it's 2-5%), that makes C19 mortality rate 10 times deadlier than the flu. And there is no Covid shot to help mitigate these numbers.

Not as daft as they look, these Thais.
Quite the contrary. It's BECAUSE they are daft (AND childish AND superstitious) that the alcohol ban in in place. I strongly suspect those in charge of this ban couldn't give two sh*ts WHAT foreigners think.

I honestly don't know what markets have ever been closed...the very large markets in my area have both remained fully operational as normal ! Most people are wearing masks but that's been about the only change.
The market I always use, a little off the beaten path in Jomtien, is still thriving. Access is ONLY through on entry and they check your temperature like everywhere else, but the produce is still fresh and plentiful.

This may be the feather that broke the camel's back. It was hard enough to maintain a visa when they started coming down on the overuse of the tourist visas, then I really had to scramble to come up with 800k baht cash (real estate rich, cash poor). Now THIS? Thinking about brushing up on Spanish and moving to South America.

In the UK they are not made to wear masks and they are free to buy beer at the supermarkets.
Canada considers alcohol sales an essential business!

I'm gonna play devil's advocate - Imagine you have to contain a nation of illogical, superstitious children who are broke, desperate, and angry. Removing booze from the equation is actually a logical choice. I really don't think they give a FIG what the farangs think.

Any word on the alcohol restriction being lifted tomorrow (1 May)?

For now, at least, the pandemic is over in Thailand. Maintain vigilance, certainly, but the people and the economy need some serious loosening of the restrictions imposed upon them.
Reopen liquor sales and the economy will explode.

how about THIS....not only is is NOT airborne, it can't hurt anyone while they are exercising. nobody can get the virus while exercising.
here's the thing about virus discussions.......number 1, we are not doctors so even if you say something that might be "right," nobody will believe you. secondly, you do what you want, i'll do what i want. you don't care about me, i don't care about you. waste your time helping people you do care about.
but back to covid, the illuminati is ready to release the next virus
and then world war 3. and then world war 4.
we'll be busy for the next 40-years
So you are saying the CDC, the world renowned expert in diseases control, doesn't know what they're talking about? Or was this just a sarcastic post? Hard to tell any more.

How is someone getting on a bicycle putting people in harms way? This virus is NOT airborne.
It absolutely IS airborne and saying it's not just lengthens the time we're all gonna be stuck with it. That is, of course, unless if you have better info that contradicts the CDC.
"Mode of transmission: Current data suggest person-to-person transmission most commonly happens during close exposure to a person infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, primarily via respiratory droplets produced when the infected person speaks, coughs, or sneezes."

BS
Hmm, you almost had me convinced with such a thoughtful perspective. Allow me to retort:
"In a scenario where someone rides into a sneeze or a cough, that would obviously present an increased risk"
https://www.bicycling.com/news/a31469228/cycling-during-coronavirus/
Then there is this:
"Then the equivalent social distances are: 5 m for walking fast (4 km/h), 10 m for running fast (14.4 km/h), 20 m for cycling fast (30 km/h). "
Please, respect your fellow human beings.

You'll need to explain how that works.
When I'm cycling I never touch anything but my bike, and the's nobody else near me in the road.
It's airborne and travels further when cycling.

Nobody cycling up there can have Covid-19, they need to breath uninhibited. And they all will have good lungs, which means good chances to survive even a heavy Virus attack. Snitches, go home and let them exercise!
I don't think you understand how a virus works. You get it, you show no signs for days but can be infectious. You go out cycling with no mask, spreading the virus even more than a person walking. THEN you start showing symptoms after having potentially infected a WHOLE LOTTA PEOPLE. We don't know enough about this novel virus yet. It's showing signs that a person can suffer it once then get reinfected later on. It's starting to show that young people are getting strokes from it. It's showing signs of attacking various organs in the body. Firchrissake, is it really too much for you to wear a mask when outside?

Get a bicycle do some exercise and reduce that obesity i see everywhere and pick a steep hill and wear a N95 mask see if you can breath and let us know
Nobody is wearing N95 masks when cycling. A simple cloth mask is adequate. I use a mask I got from Tesco, and even going uphill, my old body huffing and puffing, it's fine. Is it a nuisance? Yes. Is it the responsible thing to do? Also yes.

Even with the flu shot the death toll for the flu is still about 400,000 so that doesn't put paid to my argument as you suggest and my sudden concern for life is irrelevant to my question why aren't the flu victims just as deserving of similar measures as C19 victims, answering this question seems to be avoided by those I ask unless it's answered as with there are vaccines or is't not the same.As the topic is C19 deaths I don't see it being way off topic or is that what you're using as a cop out from answering my simple question?Maybe you stop the discussion because you have no valid argument.
That 400,000 is number who got sick.
CDC estimates that influenza was associated with more than 35.5 million illnesses, more than 16.5 million medical visits, 490,600 hospitalizations, and 34,200 deaths during the 2018–2019 influenza season.Jan 8, 2020

Time and time again medical professionals have had to say "This is not the flu." Please pay attention to them, their words can be trusted.

There was a day when the US president merely whispered his thoughts and the ripples ran like a tsunami around the world. Now that the American Empire has been exposed for what it is, the rest of the world no longer gives respect to the oval office because it's being run into the ground by a narcissistic homophobic racist fool.
