Can Canadian fly into vietnam visa exempt?
Lee65 replied to dj230's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I stated that in my first post. It was because I refused to pay USD 180. Do the search I suggested. Extortion at that airport is not uncommon. <snip> -

You're a Doctor (medical? academic? imaginary?) so you can do a search? Google <Ho Chi Minh City airport extortion> 4 years ago. -
Can Canadian fly into vietnam visa exempt?
Lee65 replied to dj230's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
If flying into Ho Chi Minh City it's a good idea to have about USD 200 as the extortion at that airport is rampant. In my case, I refused to pay the USD 180 demanded by Immigration Officials for a fabricated "error" in my paperwork and was detained in a guarded room until I could manage to get a flight back to my originating airport - in my case BKK. I saw other tourists paying up to USD 250. That room had no Wi-Fi and I relied on a kind employee at JetStar to get me a sim card with which I was able to buy the return flight ticket. I had to stay in that room until the flight time neared. One of the worst travel experiences of my life and I will never return to Vietnam. -

Where to raise a family in Thailand to avoid the pollution?
Lee65 replied to ReloTH's topic in General Topics
Trying not to be negative here but Thailand's notable for it's air pollution, water pollution, land pollution, food pollution, noise pollution, light pollution, architectural pollution and no doubt a few others ... Which were you seeking to escape? -

It's VALUE that counts. Thailand was undeniably good value once. Now not so much. -
Not sure how much if that number is the air quality in or at the unit itself and not the rest of the room. Presumably the measurement unit should be well-separated from the filtration unit so the unit is not just measuring filtered air from its immediate vicinity?

"Is it time to get an air cleaner?" "It is time for us to do what we have been doing. And that time is every day. Every day it is time for us to agree that there are things and tools that are available to us to slow this thing down," Harris said.

As U get older ,have you become a dilligaf ?
Lee65 replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
For sheer perseverance, Jingthing for the win here. Per capita he's right about more stuff. (For example, Americans really do never state it when they COULD care less about something.) And, thankfully, he served to distract us from the original topic. -

Vitamin B Diminishes Effects of Air Pollution-Induced Cardiovascular Disease This is a small study, and, oddly, there has been no follow-up that I could find. Essentially it reports that a stack of folic acid, B6, and B12 may be useful in mitigating the effects of air pollution. The usual caveats but for many suffering this polluted Thai air, a B-complex tablet might prove beneficial and be worth a try. A link to the actual study is in the article.

Be fair! Things are changing ... for the worse. After a couple years' respite during the covid fiasco, this year is by far the worst I have seen. Some days this year the AQI at this site has been in the 400s, particularly around Chiang Mai. It is frequently and persistently in the 200s. The proportion of the problem that can be blamed on neighboring countries is unclear. But there is plenty of evidence that Thailand itself must accept responsibility for much of the problem.

Biofuel Production from Sugarcane in Thailand Sugarcane ethanol (molasses ethanol) is the major biofuel used for transport in the country, contributing about 59% of the total production of ethanol. Much of the sugarcane crop linked to the bad air quality is grown to improve ... air quality.

Water purification machines, do you trust them?
Lee65 replied to Don Chance's topic in General Topics
Think there was a bit of misunderstanding here. I intended to use the unit you've described for drinking water. Just mentioned the shower filter experience to give an indication of the water quality. Do you think the system you've described (the one in the photo) would be suitable? Can the 1st (sediment) filter be washed and reused in these units? Thx. -

Lee65 replied to Don Chance's topic in General Topics
The water in my place causes the wire mesh filter upstream of the shower water heater to be half-clogged after 3 weeks with what appears to be dark rust particles. Do you think a unit such as you have pictured would work in this circumstance? Can that first (sediment) filter be washed and reused? -
