  1. Yes the "nastiness" that resulted in Pheu Thai being elected by a landslide and prior to that likewise with TRT. What I class as "nastiness" is a bunch of armed thugs led by Suthep stopping citizens from voting and forcing the democratically elected Yingluk to flee the country leaving the door open for this current junta. If it was "nastiness" under Pheu Thai then I say bring it on!
  2. "Why waste your time?" Groan... Snobbery or what?
  3. Yes it is "fine and well being philanthropic" because these Afghanis will become workers paying taxes and NIC although what this has to do with the performance of the £ against the baht I don't know. You may as well say that the £31 billion that Bojo handed out to friends, family members of ministers and Conservative Party donors on the failed test, track and trace scheme was responsible for the £ riding low but I somehow feel that wouldn't fit your narrative.
  4. Apart from jellyfish, swimming off the beach in Hua Hin is dangerous with sharp rocks underfoot. The beach in front of the Hilton and surrounding rocks are strewn with rubbish and broken bottles during "normal" times. The cleanest beach is 1km south toward Kao ta Kiab but watch the jellyfish.
  5. Erm....."the lady p.m." being the democratically elected leader of the Thai government ousted by the nationalist thugs of Suthep and Chan o cha? Your post is the epitome of false equivalence by comparing Yinluck to the Red Bull killer.
  6. Ok, so the deputy commander of the Tourist Police Division says that foreigners are "expected" to carry a passport. Note, not legally obliged to. So that takes care of tourists, numbers of whom are sparse. What about the 10s of thousands of foreigners who aren't tourists? Nah...we don't need to carry anything.
  7. I went to my local government hospital with an abscess in my neck. After a 300bt examination by the doc I was told that the operation could not be carried out there and that I must go to the city hospital 40kms away. They tried to put me in an ambulance at the bargain price of 4k bt. I said no. 3k bt? Nope. 1.6k bt? Nope. I walked out to the road and caught a bus for 40bt. Operation carried out, night on a saline drip. In the morning doctor said "all ok you can go home". Cost, 4k bt. The point here is that everything is open to negotiation. Although, if one's in pain I can see this being a lesser priority.
  8. I'm not sure you thought that one through. How can alcohol kill more people in e.g. Muslim countries where alcohol is banned yet covid is on the rampage. Oh hang on, I geddit. Your post was an oh so clever attempt at Covid denial.
  9. Yup, I've lived here for 5 yrs. We're in the sticks. 7/11 nearest is 15 kms. 40bt bus ride to Ubon city. This is the nicest village that I've lived in. Mum and Dad shops with beer at 50bt large bottle of Tiger, swimming and fishing in the mighty River Se. What's not to like?
  10. The vendors would be begging and possibly homeless and their customers would go hungry. Jeez.....
  11. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
  12. I tried to sign up (new boy) but just got directed to Premier League site. Is it too late now season has started?
  13. What a nasty judgmental post. "he should go home". How dare you! He is home with his, albeit untrustworthy, wife. BTW I'm one of those people who "live pretty lean here".
  14. Yawn. I've been hearing "cash will be a thing of the past soon" all my life. Never will this happen as long as schemes which plummet 50% virtually overnight are an alternative. Cash is king!
  15. Yup, we've got it farang: you hate Thaksin. You seem to have an obsession with your length of residence here. Why do you keep showing off? Just to pick on one part of your delusional anti Thaksin rant: "he gave the masses a few crumbs". Well, I invite you to come to the village where I live and tell the villagers that Thaksin only gave them crumbs.
