  1. Last week I´ve been at Samui Immigration to change from retirement to marriage Visa. One of the reasons beeing denied was the fotos. I did as the list of requirements they hand out says, but they wanted another set up (in the bedroom etc.) Second was that they told me my passport had to be valid for min. 1 year (7 months valid at that time). I always thought it has to be 6 months valid at least!? But what surprised me most was, that they gave me this paper (attached page 1, the other pages show the instructions how to do) and told me that I have to do an online, and only online, notification of my address. (it actually looks to me that my wife has to do it, but they said I have to do it) I have a yellow house book and a pink "Thai ID" card both showing my name and address. I asked if we can do the notification here, sitting at Immigration!! No can not ! only online ?? Now I´m on a 60 days Tourist Visa and have to try again in June. Does anyone of you guys have had a similar experience ? What it´s all about ?

    Regards

If access to the wall (like under a wash basin) makes things difficult, I have gone through from the opposite side to open things up.

  4. First of all.....Thank´s a lot to everybody

You tried the ptfe plumbers tape?

I did, but it doesn´t work on the wall as the pipe comes out too flat (even)

The best way would be to "open the wall" and replace the broken joint....but you could try some 2 part epoxy putty it will set in the wet but not under pressure so turn the water off for a few hours to allow time for it to dry a bit.

Agree with the first point, but it would be a bigger job + very inconvenient to work (difficult access)

Tried the putty (which I called "glue", sorry), without pressure, but it worked out only 99%

The best repairs in cases like this is start all over again. But maybe you are lucky.....

    Agree to both (hoping)

The problem is that you over-torqued in the first place.

Yes. And I know about the sensibility of PVC pipes. Problem was that it´s a combination of several connections and it should be horizontal. Last 5mm were...just..too much

can you get a close-up clear photo of the problem / fitting coming from the wall, it will help us to devise a good fix-up for you.

Can´t do that now, and you would only see the "mess" that it is at present (putty, tape, glue..)

    18 hours ago, Artisi said:

Possibly you can chip away a bit of the wall to expose the pipe / fitting, then using a 2 part epoxy and female / male PVC fitting  - after fitting the new fitting apply a good amount of epoxy into the hole and around the pipe fitting.

Probably the next step if I´m not lucky, referring to eyecatchers post

Many small leaks actually right themselves relatively quickly, with impurities coming via a water main or crap that ended up down the waste pipe.

    That´s what I´m hoping for

You might try aqua putty two part adhesive that is available from home pro.

Assuming theres some good PVC thread poking out of the wall,

Unfortunately not. It´s that part that broke.

    8 hours ago, Crossy said:
    • Get an iron (not PVC) female - female and an iron male - male fitting (or better a stop tap) fitting of the correct size.
    • Apply LOTS of PTFE tape to the PVC coming out of the wall.
    • Put the female fitting on.
    • The thread is much longer than the flexy nut and should seal nicely on the remaining good PVC.
    • Screw the stop-tap into the other end of the fitting (use enough PTFE).
    • Re-fit the flexy (check the rubber washer).

This could come in play in another occasion. Very good advice. Thanks

If you can get it liquid PTFE would work

  5. Hi there,

I´m rentig out a house. My tenants are nice and clean and they pay. They are a bit pedantic though. Under the sink in the bathroom (after a failed repair) there stays a tiny leak. Outflow about 10 ml (or less) per day. But there is a leak and they insist (softly) to fix it. It´s about the PVC pipe coming out directly flat from the wall with a male thread (also PVC) to fix the hose to the tap. At the last torque the thread broke at it´s bottom. It was still holding on so I´ve let it dry (not enough obviously) and put some two component glue on. Better, but not. Next I tried several other kinds of stuff but as the water was once under it nothing would stick. Next I would have to  open the wall, which I want to avoid. Years ago in a teleshopping program they advertised a "glue" that was made for wet surfaces (such as a leaking roof during rain).

Don´t know if it worked. Does anyone know if such thing (maybe for boats) is available in TH ? Any other good advice is also appreciated. Thanks

P.S. Long story for a tiny leak, but I wanted to show the situation and the dimesion of the options. A bit of glue or opening a wall

generally pensioners get what they deserve depending on their contributions to Germany's social insurance system.

Unfortunately not really. Or they didn´t raise pensions accordingly. On my last visits to Munich, which was and is a rich city, now only affordable for the rich, I´ve seen lots of people searching the waste bins for refundable bottles. All ages, many of them old. A bottle can get you 8-15 Eurocents approx. These people desperately need the little extra. And at the so called "Tafel" (places where they collect left over food from supermarkets etc., to give it for free, originally to the homeless) the number of pensioners attending has risen dramtically over the past years. SIEMENS, BMW, Deutsche Bank etc. make more money every year but that does not come to people accordingly, and an (officially) estimated 25% of the elder population is threatend to suffer from so called "poverty amoung the elderly" in the coming years. Well done politicians, great job. Your buddies will applaud you at the next Bilderberg meeting

have used internet since late 70s, wouldn't be without - no internet --> reduced quality of life

I mostly agree with that. I had my first computer/internet in 2006, for business reasons. Till then I had the illusion that I could do without it for the rest of my life. Cannot. Also enjoying many aspects of it.

But today when I was driving around the Island I saw many young people (tourists) on motorbikes standing, as usual, mostly in the "middle" of the road, looking at their phones to find their way. This can be an advantage!?

It also reminded me of my travels to Thailand and elsewhere in times prior to the internet. It was mostly fun to ask someone to show you the way. Sometimes it turned out in a nice chat or even some hours of sitting together, eating and drinking. Time went slower by then. Now many of these young people ( better said, smartphone people regardless the age) seem to be in a hurry due to an imaginary agenda. Already looked up everything in TripAdvisor etc., booked in advance and the next "event" has to be attended. Or the group of 12 people on the round table in our coffe shop (we had before) sitting about 2 hours staring at their phones and a maximum of 10 spoken words between them. Communication has shifted massively from a personal interaction to a more machine-guided process. IMO

How this will turn out ? Time will tell

I can also see a "reduced quality of life" in some aspects

I don't recall seeing that finger pointing when the Thaivisa member was arrested.......... about 6 months ago

I think the finger pointing by officers was forbidden a while ago. (sadly... was very funny sometimes to see all these smiling faces, including the suspect´s face in the case of a laughing gas balloon vendor on a full moon party) Now it´s the suspects that are occasionally pointing at some pieces of evidence or crime scenes

P.S. if someone recalls this article (gas balloon) please post it. I would like to file the photo

Is there anyone now who has been asked the same question by staff?

Yes I have. Here on Koh Phangan I´m asked by staff in about 90% of 7/11 and Family Marts. Even with a purchase of several items. Looks that the franchisees take it more serious here

  10. Hi Jeff,

just had a phone call from my insurance broker this afternoon. The annual rate (I´m 58, 59 in Jan.) is due to pay:

70.000 THB. The company is LUMA health insurance. They payed a 180.000 THB bill (Bangkok Hospital, very expensive) last year. Inpatient. They give clearance after a previous consultation. Means...they pay. Good coverage in good hospitals.

All private, as far as I´ve seen. (with LUMA)

I got your point about the government hospitals. (Just wanted to tell you about my case)

The broker I´m dealing with offered me quite a number of various contracts with different companies. He takes care of clients very well (in my personal experience). He is German (as I am) but I`m sure that he speaks English. What I want to say is, that this could be a person able to help you and your needs (hopefully).

    Best of luck

One man's traffic zoo is another man's light traffic.  I'm originally from Los Angeles so I always laugh when people talk about bad traffic when cars are actually moving. ????

Problem is....that cars are actually moving!! ...too fast. And not to forget the motorbikes. Yearly death toll on Samui roads equals (approx.) the LA numbers. ( don´t nail me on that, just read some statistics )

There is a slight difference in population though.

But, Koh Samui is a nice island with almost everything one needs. I´ve been there first time in 1981 and now every once in a while to do my visa stuff or visit a friend who lives in Mae Nam. I live on Koh Phangan, I like it. When you are on Samui you could do a day trip to Phangan (easy and effortless, 30 minutes). Even if it´s only to take another one off your list

  12. Had an Enfield 500 Bullet back in 2009 (one of the last ones to be sold "new"). Still the old version with 4 gears right hand side, drum brakes (duplex front-brake), the ingenious feature to shift from 4th to idle, and the horrible carburator and ignition coil that stopped it every once in a while against expectation. But the sound, the driving-experience and the spirit that came with it was great. Loved it. Looking at this new Himalayan 411, whithout knowing how it runs, I think, I´d prefer another (whatsoever) brand, because they all look the same. Matter of price and performance and spare parts

  13. Knowing that the topic has been on before, but as things are changing fast, my question:

We have built a house and moved in recently. I´m on a 1 year retirement visa (90 days report). Is there a time frame for reporting the new address ? Is there any proof of how long I´ve stayed from the former landlord required ? I live on Koh Phangan (Samui next immigration). Do I have to notify to local Police, before Immigration ? Maybe I´m a bit paranoid about it, but reading articles on TV like "....62 in jail for not reporting address" or so, doesn´t give me peace of mind either

    Thanks in advance

Did not hear or realise that. If so, he is in the wrong. Keivyn, change your attitude and get your things straight
