  1. Product type: Nucleic acid testing (NAT) technologies that use polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detection of SARS-CoV-2

    Date: 13 January 2021

    WHO-identifier: 2020/5, version 2

Target audience: laboratory professionals and users of IVDs.

Purpose of this notice: clarify information previously provided by WHO. This notice supersedes WHO Information Notice for In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Device (IVD) Users 2020/05 version 1, issued 14 December 2020.

Description of the problem: WHO requests users to follow the instructions for use (IFU) when interpreting results for specimens tested using PCR methodology.

Users of IVDs must read and follow the IFU carefully to determine if manual adjustment of the PCR positivity threshold is recommended by the manufacturer.

WHO guidance Diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2 states that careful interpretation of weak positive results is needed (1). The cycle threshold (Ct) needed to detect virus is inversely proportional to the patient’s viral load. Where test results do not correspond with the clinical presentation, a new specimen should be taken and retested using the same or different NAT technology.

WHO reminds IVD users that disease prevalence alters the predictive value of test results; as disease prevalence decreases, the risk of false positive increases (2). This means that the probability that a person who has a positive result (SARS-CoV-2 detected) is truly infected with SARS-CoV-2 decreases as prevalence decreases, irrespective of the claimed specificity.

Most PCR assays are indicated as an aid for diagnosis, therefore, health care providers must consider any result in combination with timing of sampling, specimen type, assay specifics, clinical observations, patient history, confirmed status of any contacts, and epidemiological information.

Well, you can't make chips out of Bitcoin as you can with Gold, valid point ????

555...I know, even if there are drinks and food with leaf gold. Don't know about nutrition facts????

One thing that does worry me a bit is for example https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/10/pakistan-power-gradually-being-restored-after-nationwide-blackout

People who know how to play the game can make a lot of money for sure

  3. Not too many details in the OP, but it says they where bundled and something over their heads. Maybe they've been tied up not thoroughly and the men thought they would be too scared to run. Just reminds me of how gangs that steal bicycles in big cities act. They steal all over the city and bring the bikes to the outskirts (or other places within the city) one by one. Then accumulate them around poles or fences and lock them with cheap locks (or inside other premises). If there is enough, they come with vans or lorries and bring the bikes somewhere.

Where I lived, one of those guys involved lost a big bunch of keys right in front of our house and I came across when Police found it. One of the officers told me it worked like this. Same pattern?

I guess they tested 95 more people today than yesterday????????????

on a more serious note how many you think they testing on a average day

    1000

    2000

    3000

it was a big news story when they tested 800 government workers so it seems they like to brag when they test a few

How many tests are being completed daily nationwide and where, would be useful as well as the positives count.

But this basic information it seems is not available to the masses in case it reveals Thailands  Covid management strategies.

Don't know if that has changed due to the 'clusters' they found, but afaik so far Thailand has only tested people that showed symtoms

He could apply for a one year extension of stay based upon being the parent of a Thai.

I think, that's what he did before

To apply for it he would need to be the legal father of his child by way of marriage or legitimization of his parenthood.

He is the legal father, but they don't want to marry. Would he have to leave after 3 months? ...because he usually lives here. So the 60 days version is not an option for him. Not sure, but I think he has a re-entry permit, as he wanted to come earlier.

His worries now are, that if goes to quarantine (money, airfare) he wouldn't be able to extend his permission of stay

  6. A friend of mine (Austrian) wants to come to Thailand. He's under 50, not married and has a child with a Thai lady. The boy has dual nationality. Don't know what type of visa he had before (Thai child?) but he had to leave the country every 3 months. Would he have to go back to Austria after 3 months or could he extend his permission of stay within Thailand?

    Thanks in advance

  7. Unlike Australia, Thailand does not have a determined season for jellyfish. There seems to be a concentration of encounters around July/August but they are here all year. Camille Lemmens (Samui) is running an interesting website about the subject. I am importing "Stinger Suits" from Australia https://stingersuits.com/

If you are interested, please contact me and I can send you one/some

  8. Few days ago I saw a report about these differences of deaths in different countries. They brought it down to different treatments of patients. One of the examples was Switzerland. While there where few deaths within the German speaking population, Italian and French speaking parts had significantly higher numbers. Reason given was that the Italian and French parts where following the medication scheme of these countries, which is an extremly toxic coctail of several drugs subministered in high overdosis and the use of "off label" medicines. + when they put you on a ventilator your chances to die rise by 50%. Same with Portugal and Spain. One follows the scheme, other one doesn't and it refleccts in numbers. They ironically asked if the virus in Switzerland was racist
