Sorry but that's why I only use a main dealer, even if it means a day out or two.

No dealer on the island and I don't want to move the car like this.

    What glue was it ?..

No idea, red (sealant)...anyway, no problem to order a gasket if you're not out in the desert or jungle

    No offence towards you

Head gasket or valve cover gasket?

I'm not an expert but it's the uppermost cover of the engine (not ???? the air filter) I think head gasket?

My suggestion is to speak to the locals in the trade, they will tell you who is the best local mechanic and the best shop.

That's exactly the problem. I know them all apart from one (new one)....and I like the car

  2. Hi,

they ruined my car again....impossible to find a mechanic that knows something where I live. Tried them all. This time there was a problem with the diesel pump. Car is a 1999 Toyota Tiger SR 5. They fiddled around with the pump which is still not working properly and for some reason, unknown to me, the took off the  cylinder head and replaced the gasket (which still looks ok to me) with this <deleted> glue. Now the engine runs completly out of round, stops incidentally, which might be due to the pump. My bigger concern is that the gasket which was quite thick, now glue, would reduce the distance between head and block and moving parts could touch. Any  thoughts on that ?

    Thanks

Saudi has been desalinating seawater on a major scale for at least 40 years. Do they have a problem with it?

I hope that the links are working. (don´t know why, but I have a copy-paste problem) There are some interesting articles about that. I googled "what does saudi arabia do with the salt from desalination". Apparently they started to extract minerals to sell them. If that helps the environment ? Don´t know.

The other article that showed up in google search (related to the subject) was about the impact on environmental, economical and even social matters (water as a commodity)

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&ved=2ahUKEwjv2sTd64HlAhUHtY8KHciVANAQFjAFegQICxAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foodandwaterwatch.org%2Fnews%2Focean-desalination-no-solution-water-shortages&usg=AOvVaw02mo-OmcnpwypjQ1-DtVAF

I also would like to see desalination as a solution but it doesn´t look like. The article from the link above details the problems in short terms.

Anyway, however they are powered, desalination plants are the only sensible way to provide enough fresh water for the future.

Not really. As mentioned in other posts there is an issue with power supply. Hence governments subsidise renewable energy projects together with desalination plants. So, "however they are powered" is only one, minor, part of the problem. The bigger one, more obvious but hardly ever seen by most of the people is...SALT...yes, salt. What you gonna do with it. I´ve heard (and seen one of them) of two systems of desalination plants (there might be more). One was you take the water straight from the sea and put the remaining salt back to the sea. The aerea around the plant (big aerea) will be dead like the "dead sea" in Israel. The other sytsem (I´ve seen) was: you take the prefiltered water from some several hundred meters inland. Very dirty. High effort to filter and the remainig salt is nothing but toxic (for the ground it´s stored on and ground water) waste you can´t do anything with it. Maybe there are some new methods I haven´t heard of (possible), but so far it doesn´t look like desalination is the answer to the problem. Would be too easy....

They look back through the bank book and if they see the balance dropping below 400K during the past three months they can deny the extension. They don't just look at closing daily balances.

I had exactly this experience. Balance dropped by 3500 THB under requirement (very short time).

    Extension denied

But as other posters already mentioned, depending on the IO

What if it's a falang, do they accept credit cards if the insurance doesn't cover?

My father had to call a helicopter once while staying in the Bahamas. Friend had a stroke when they´ve been out somewhere diving. Heli only came because my father´s credit card had enough coverage. Cost something like 6000 or 8000 $. Expensive everywhere, but saved the friend´s live

Up until about a year ago our electricity bill normally around 1500 baht. In the 2 or three hotter months it would go to 2000-2500.

Been like that last 3 years I lived here. Last 6 months electricity has sky rocketed firstly to 3500 baht and now 4000 baht.

There is the "Usage History" (consumption) over the last six months written on your electrcity bill. If that has not gone up then prices have

Only any use if the things you are shredding are 100% dry, slightest bit of moisture it blocks.

When I was looking for a shredder lately (can be 6 months ago), I also came across this TALON thing. In one of the reviews (can´t find it anymore) a guy who had this "blocking problem" removed and cut off (with an angle grinder) some parts from the outlet.

Photos were attached and it looked easy to do. After that he rated a 4 out of 5. Only disadvantage was, that it scattered things more randomly. Should be no problem to find a solution for that

should have their vehicles impounded until they come back with a valid license.

As long as it is not mandatory to attend a driving school (hardly found in Thailand) before applying for a driver license, this point is completely meaningless. I just passed my driving test last week (again, after more than 40 years) and the procedure, as some of you might know, is: you have to come with your own car or rent one. You obviously don´t have a license to do so. Then after failing the test, which more than half of the participants did, you have to drive home...with your vehicle...without a license. Than come back the next day or so and try again. You have to learn it yourself, unfortunately too often the hard way. Until this isn´t changed, all points and fines and licenses will not change anything

    And no, you're assuming wrong.

Obviously the arms industry got an interest in hyping military and security threats. Question is whether one embraces the view that their influence on all matters political and diplomatic is as described. I tend to see it as an exaggeration, and a useful political tool by itself. It's worth bearing in mind that the arms trade, while significant, does not really constitute the lion's share of most relevant economic relations. As posted in one recent topic, arms sales don't make it into the top 10 USA export lists.

Maybe. But actually I wasn´t talking about arms trade only. More about a mechanism that I called "war industry".

Destabilise, destroy, build up (preferably with your own companies or affiliates), things like that. Arms trade is a part of it

Sorry, forgot to mention natural resources

Can you guarantee (or even support) either assertion in your one liner statement? Somehow, it doesn't seem as if European governments buy into these sort of assurances much.

I can´t guarantee anything in this world, who can ??, the governments do what they are told. Unfortunately they don´t do what their people would like them to do. Pesonally, and I can´t speek for every single person in Europe, of course, I do not know anybody in Europe (and I´ve got a number of friends from all around) that feels threatened by the Russians. We were doing quite well until someone decided we have to do otherwise.

Sorry Morch. This is what you US (just assuming that you are) people are told on a daily bases ever since. If you wouldn´t believe it, the war industry could suffer a serious breakdown, which is not in the interest of certain entities.

BTW I´m not pro Russia in terms of, that they are the good guys
