Currents can be a problem.
I don't know how it is between Samui and Ang Thong. Samui/Phangan is very strong. Friends of mine (in the diving business) wanted to recover a big lost anchor there. To search for it they had to bring smaller anchors (for themselves) with ropes attached to not get washed away

First of all I am NOT a scientist and I do NOT have an opinion on the subject itself (climate change). I just don't know
When this became popular I wanted to know more about the 97.1 % consensus amongst scientists. So I, naively, started a Google search: "how many climate scientists are there worldwide" or "number of climate s....." etc.
First page always shows: 97.1 % consensus, climate change etc. and the Wiki list gives you names of climate scientists over the centuries. Not my question. Anyway, I went a little deeper and came, of course, across the cook et al study and the categories it's based on. If you want to know what it says exactly, look it up yourself. I make it a bit shorter
Categories:
1. Humanity is responsible (more than 50% human influence)
2. Humanity is responsible (without quantification)
3. Implies humans as a cause (without stating it)
4. No position/Uncertain (studies only on climate itself)
5. Implies humans have a minimal impact (proposing)
6. Explicit rejection (without quantification)
7. Explicit rejection (humans are less than 50% responsible)
In the end the study was based on 11944 scientific articles. The percentages, numbers and grafics vary somewhat from platform to platform, but they have one thing in common. Cat.4. More about that later
From one website: Numbers of articles that stated
Cat.1 64 = 0.54%
Cat.2 922 = 7,72%
Cat.3 2910 = 24.36%
Cat.4 7970 = 66.73%
Cat.5 54 = 0.45%
Cat.6 15 = 0.13%
Cat.7 9 = 0.08%
2 and 3 are overlapping with 5 and 6 and should have been taken out of consideration as they do not say much.
What was taken out is Cat.4 as it tells nothing about human influence. Like an election, non voters are not counted.
Now we have 3896 articles out of 3974 that refer to Cat.1-3 and 78 to Cat.5-7. As said before the numbers vary in studies but here you got the 95+ % (could be 97.1 as aggreed on).
I still do not have an opinon about the matter. I think we should do everything possible to save our planet. Best for us
I do certainly not believe in statistics of any kind....... apart from TAT of course

Something like that is the most efficent but you would still have a lot of plastic on your land. I copied the link as an example. Would be probably cheaper at an agricultural warehouse as you need quantity

Advantage can be health insurace. All the "travel insurances" also long term ones, require residency in Germany

Another concern is my Passport, if it were to expire, can I just get a new one at the Embassy in Bangkok despite it not being an emergency?
Not an issue. Whenever your passport expires (or got lost) you can apply for a new one. Either at the Embassy or at a Consulate (Ching Mai, Pattaya, Phuket). I got my new one from Phuket (so I can tell for sure that it's possible there)
Don't know about the other Consulates. Convenient was that Phuket Consulate staff fly to Koh Samui (I live on Koh Phangan) once a month and you can meet them there in a restaurant and do your things. Just look at their website.
Keep in mind that it will take several weeks to get a new PP. Apply well before expiry date

Last time I've heard of it was some years ago. Interesting for me was, that one of the reasons for building a bridge was that Samui would lose a certain status as an "island" which would allow to raise much higher buildings (like Phuket).
This could be the ultimate deathblow to a once wonderful island.
"Tourism downturn"
Yesterday I sat at Songserm Ferry pier on Koh Phangan. (Today is Full Moon Party and, as usual, many people are expected to arrive). About 10 minutes before the ferry from Koh Tao was due, came the motorbike taxis (7-10) and 5 Songteaws waiting for customers. Off the boat came 2 ....no joke... two tourists.
The taxi drivers had to laugh out of disbelief. But it was more of a hysterical and desperate kind of laughter.
Many Thai and foreign buisiness owners here started (around June/July) to switch off aircons in shops and had to fire staff in order to survive. I'm sure there will be more of a "downturn" in the near future.....because of many reasons

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that cows milk is not good for adults. For kids...maybe.
The other thing was that a friend's girlfriend (in Europe) had breast cancer at young age (around 30) and one of the doctors told him that the breast cancer rate in Asia was much lower compared to other countries due to the non- or very little consumption of milk (-products). I just had a look on statistics and it seems that the classical "milk lands" do have the highest rates

Should make it easyer to get a prescription, I think
And many doctors wouldn't care anyway as long as you pay the asking price. Like the health certificates for Visa or DL
Some of them don't even see you, the nurse fills the form and the doctor (in another room) sings it and that's it

A bit off topic... not too much
Being on Phuket in 1981 we stayed at Kata Noi Beach which by then had two accomodations. One on each extreme of the beach. First one consisted of two bamboo huts and an unfinished restaurant and the second one of about five huts.
In between was only beach and bush
The off topic : one day asking for a dish with chicken, the answer was : "Sorry, no chicken accident today". Still like it
Back to topic : walking the beach between the two resorts (day time, no people around...so nice, apart from this situation) out of the bush came this pack of savaged dogs.(Thais at this time would literally kick out dogs of restaurants and other places.) About 15 of them. In front there was the leader and they approached in plan of attack, obviousely.
So this piece of driftwood (solid branch) lying close came in very handy. Beating the ground hard with it in front of the leader did the job. They backed off

However they recognize the noise of some bike driven by people who tried to hit them before and they try to bite these guy anytime.
I know that and I'm not the guy who hits the dogs. Normally if dogs come after me (rarely happens) I slow down and talk to them. Works. On this road they attack me (have been only one time at night) and friends who live in this area that also don't hit them. The dogs just like it

Have to disagree. Where I live there's a road where dogs ( about 10 ) lay down peacefully (lazy) during the day, but that changes dramatically at night. When you drive by on your bike they chase and try to bite you

Walking around the countryside after dark in Thailand isn't a good idea anyway, I think. Regardless if you're a woman or a man. Apart from the dogs you have the snakes, the centipedes and..... you name it. I don't see too many Thais wandering around after dark. My wife doesn't. The ones that do might be people you don't want to encounter
Regarding the dogs a big gun would probably be best. Jokes apart, I would carry a large and solid stick, not to hit the dogs in first place, but to hit the ground in case they approach. Usually scares them off. An aerosol filled with water boiled with a lot of chili and then filtered through a coffe or tea filter (paper ones, so nothing gets stuck in the nozzle)
should work like a pepper spray. Could also work on people
Personally, I don't walk around at night

Yeah sounds like he has used red RTV to seal the rocker cover which is fairly common and wont be causing any of your issues.
Can you take a video of the engine running and upload it.
I also think that it's more about the fuel pump or the injectors. I'm just worried to start up the engine as it sounds really bad and shaking a lot. The fuel pump was leaking when I took the car to the shop. Apart from that it was running very smooth.
On 10/15/2019 at 10:18 AM, thaiguzzi said:By reading your posts it appears also you not mechanically minded, ref cam cover or head removed.
Yes and no. I have a good ear for strange sounds in engines. Not so much when it comes down to technical terms.
It's the rocker (ref cam) cover gasket. Why would you change the gasket ( I have the used part and it looks good to me) when you repair the fuel pump ? asking

Not 100% sure, but I think it's the Netherlands where when you learn driving you're instructed (as the driver) to open the car door with your right hand. In Thailand (and others) it's the left hand accordingly. Try it and you'll see that you almost can't avoid to look back automatically. Have to get used to it though
