Birth rate plunge triggers health minister’s urgent action plan

Create another public holiday - National Leg-over Day? -
Why not? With respect, Thailand wants tourism and investment from China, like other Asian countries. Srettha is not going to back down due to the moans of a few foreign ex-pats (like here on AN). Do not get me wrong, I also dislike the Chinese and here in Siem Reap I do not involve myself with them or their businesses, an amicable situation. I support the Khmer people. What the Royal Cambodian Government decides is no concern of mine.

So that any potentially troublesome/noisy child, 7 kgms or less, can travel for free in the overhead locker?? -
With respect, not strictly true. I am a type 2 diabetic and when I lived in the UK, my doctor advised me to eat wholemeal bread. For reference:- "Contrary to popular belief, people with type 2 diabetes can, in fact, eat bread — the right kinds, in moderation. As a starting point..........................advises that breads made from whole grains like whole-wheat bread are fine in moderation for people with type 2 diabetes, although they should avoid white bread" https://www.everydayhealth.com/type-2-diabetes/best-worst-breads-diabetes/

Yes indeed, and me being a diabetic, it would not be suitable even though wholemeal bread is part of my diabetic diet. Fortunately here in Siem Reap, my local MAKRO has an "onsite" bakery and it's wholewheat bread is non-sweetened to compete with many local private bakeries (a legacy from French colonial days). Sadly, the "onsite" bakery is producing far less local products which are being replaced by pre-packaged ones imported from Thailand. For example, that awful doughy Farmhouse bread is now appearing on our shelves at a higher price, replacing local bread. Is there a demise in MAKRO's "onsite" baking in Thailand?

This website may be of interest to you. I live in Siem Reap and this International company IPS (Australian I believe) is reputable and trusted in Cambodia. Although describing Siem Reap, there are links to other cities in the country. Check it out. https://ips-cambodia.com/locations/siem-reap-province/

Did you appreciate living in the 70s, 80s and 90s?
Burma Bill replied to thaibeachlovers's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Yes, very much so. Not only the 70's, 80's and 90's but for me, also the 50's and 60's. As a UK citizen, I lived throughout the reign of Queen Elizabeth 2nd. As a child, I can still remember our local street party to celebrate the Coronation of HM. Reflecting, I think the "swinging" 60's were the most exciting. -

Crane Collapse in Sukhumvit 23 Kills Engineer, Injures Two Workers
Burma Bill replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
With respect, if there had been, maybe the three workers would have been constructing today. Bamboo, as most of you know, is very strong and durable. It can withstand the excessive forces of tropical storms and typhoons if properly lashed together. Used widely in this part of the World. Photo taken in Hong Kong: -

TikTok Fraud
Burma Bill replied to doctormann's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Yes I have but not Tik Tok. Circumstances:- Whilst asleep, at 02.30 am my mobile phone buzzed to inform me that my debit card had been used to extract money from my bank account in Malaysian Ringits. My debit card was in my wallet alongside me. Shortly afterwards a second debit was made, also in Ringits. Later during the morning (before my bank opened) two further debits were made in Ringits. I have never been to Malaysia. I went to my bank which cancelled my debit card and issued me with a new one. From my statement record, it transpired all four payments, totalling a mere 14US$ (conversion from Ringits), had been credited to a Facebook account. My bank was extremely helpful and credited the small loss back to my account. Obviously my card had been cloned. Fortunately I took immediate action before potentially large sums were being withdrawn. No problems since and I never found out details of the FB account, but my bank did. -
No problem for me at BIGC (pre-covid!). Purchased an "L" size sports shirt and found it was rather tight (typical Thai sizing). Folded it, replaced in BIGC bag along with the receipt and returned to customer service desk at the store. The Thai lady was very courteous, told me to go and select an "XL" and bring back to counter. This I did and there was no extra cost or hassle.

Traveling by Bus from Chiang Mai …. around Northern Thailand.
Burma Bill replied to SamSanuk's topic in Chiang Mai
Thanks for the memory. Where I used to live in Lanna, North Thailand, we had a similar blue bus service which operated between Chiang Rai and Lampang which also took hours! The route from Chiang Rai was via Maesuay, Wiang Papao, Maekachan, Wang Nua and Chae Hom. In those days the buses were old, slow and rickety, but provided an interesting tour of around 240 kms taking 7 hours or more (one way!) -
For reference from link to OP: The best country in the world goes to Switzerland while the list’s tail end is occupied by Iran. Notably, several Asian nations have secured impressive rankings, including Japan in 6th place, Singapore 16th, China 20th, and South Korea 21st. Among ............. the (ASEAN) countries, Malaysia secured 38th position, followed by Indonesia 41st, the Philippines 43rd, Vietnam 44th, Cambodia 64th, and Myanmar 80th. Well I'm blowed! Burma (Myanmar) doing better than Iran.
