  8. I am not surprised when it comes to Domestic Tourism: (Google) On July 3, the Bank of Thailand announced the country's household debt had reached 16 trillion baht ($455 billion) in the first quarter of 2023, or 90.6% of the kingdom's gross domestic product, a further deterioration from the 87% recorded in the fourth quarter of 2022.Jul 9, 2023
  9. Yes there are and I used to see them when I lived in North Thailand. Reference Google: Barn owls are protected wildlife under the Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act and are found in all parts of Thailand. I have also seen one here in Siem Reap, Cambodia, where it is known as the "bad fortune" animal especially if it lands on the roof of your house during the night.
  10. For reference (God of Fortune), not sure abut the golden talons.
  11. Asia's answer to Laurel & Hardy ??? (about the right sizes)
  12. The number is ........ +66 (0) 53731008 If you reside in the Chiang Rai and Phayao area of Lanna, the Tourist Police Office in Chiang Rai (which has a branch office opposite the Mae Sai Border Post) may be able to give advice on 1155 (free call). There is no specific number listed.
  13. Thanks, exactly my thought! Boozing into the small hours and waking up feeling like death warmed up.
  14. Personally, I find this a very tragic and sad accident. The deceased's 8 month pregnant girlfriend must be devastated. The newborn child will never meet his/her father. RIP young Worawut and my condolences to all.
  15. .............. I remember it well - 89 baht to 1 GBP! I became a baht millionaire on my pension money!
  16. Apologies for any confusion but the evisa website you qoute is for the online application of a Cambodian e.visa (also known as an e-Visa/electronic visa). This was introduced in 2006 to specifically help boost tourism and one prints it onto paper (in fact 2 copies are needed, one to present on entry and the other to present on exit). Details of this e-visa are entered in your passport. This visa cannot be converted/extended into a Retirement (ER) visa. The Ordinary E visa is an adhesive visa which is stuck into your passport by Immigration at point of entry. This can be converted/extended into an ER visa. Photos to assist: First - e.visa (online 42$) which you have to print onto paper and present at point of entry. This cannot be used for an ER visa. Second - Ordinary E visa which is stuck into passport and can be used for ER visa if you are 55 years or older. (This photo is of an older version, the new one has blue background). $30 (at point of entry)
  17. and feigning sickness??
  18. My personal choice: Inexpensive and widely available in stores in Thailand and here in Cambodia. (imported from Thailand).
  19. Thanks, but with respect I see no mention of Cambodia which also issues dedicated Retirement (ER) visas for those 55 years or older. Simple and hassle free to apply for one at any appointed travel agent. No dealings with Immigration itself. Start with an Ordinary (E) Visa at border entry (not to be confused with the Tourist online e-Visa). This is valid for 30 days and costs 30$. Then you can apply for a Retirement Visa for 6 or 12 months. I have a 12 month ER visa which cost me 290$. Multiple Entries for its duration are also included. No financial requirements/evidence required. No Cambodian bank account required. Registration on the FPCS (Foreigners Present in Cambodia System), valid passport and 2 recent pp photos required. Holders of ER visas are not allowed to work. Please note: Tourist (T) and online e- Visas (mainly for tourists to avoid queues at border crossings) CANNOT be extended as Retirement Visas.
  20. Well, he and his sister were almost home this weekend 5 - 6 August 2023 and just over the border! Reference today's "The Nation" (source Phnom Penh Post) 6 August 2023. In a surprising turn of events, former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and Yingluck Shinawatra attended the birthday celebrations of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on August 5. The festive occasion marked Hun Sen's 72nd birthday. The relationship between Hun Sen and Thaksin dates back to 1992 when they became God brothers. They have maintained a close connection ever since, even though Thaksin and his sister Yingluck were both ousted from power through coups. The unexpected attendance of the Shinawatras at Hun Sen's birthday adds a new chapter to this intriguing political relationship. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/politics/40029982 Intriguing indeed! Will Hun Sen become the new PM of Thailand whilst his son is PM of Cambodia??? (only joking) Now we know how possibly easy it was for them to "escape" from Thailand.
