  1. BS - From today's Khmer media (29/12/22):- About 300 joint police forces and 11 fire trucks were operating at the scene, the commissioner said. However, due to the high and narrow location, the fire spread throughout the location, making the firefighting operation difficult. He has sent helicopters and commandos to the scene to evacuate staff from the roof. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501210876/poipet-casino-on-fire-for-more-than-five-hours/ Please bear in mind that the Fire Service in Cambodia is a unit within the Police Service unlike many other countries. See photo below:
  2. Likewise, BUT I have heard of Sam Smith's Brewery in Tadcaster, Yorkshire (UK) which produces excellent cask conditioned ales!
  3. For general reference - RIMPING supermarkets in Chiang Mai.
  4. Well, they certainly appeared to have made a "pig's ear" of the operation!!
  5. Thank you Norway, please keep up the pressure. Since the latest coup, Thailand's PTT has been funding the Burmese Junta by purchasing oil and gas (also the Chinese) providing money to buy military equipment for the genocidal terror group - the Tatmadaw!
  6. Great idea to stop raw sewage being washed up onto the promenades!
  7. A "High Class" tourist visiting a "World Class" resort??????? ????????
  8. Unfortunately I do not know these post pandemic days, but I will find out when I visit Hanoi again this coming February (2023) when the air fares become cheaper after the festive season.
  9. Well done, lass! Keeping abreast of the times.
  10. Well I never, that many on all the broken pavements (sidewalks) throughout the country?? (photo taken in Bangkok)
  11. I have made several visits to Vietnam and always took Thai Baht to exchange into Dong's at the money exchanges on arrival - easy and hassle free (cash for cash)! I also used my Bangkok Bank Visa Debit card at ATMs. (Mastercard these days at Bangkok Bank).
  12. That certainly was the case in rural Northern Thailand where I used to live, especially on Sundays when roast lunches were on the menu. Food served from noon onwards with the bar providing beers and spirits into the evening!
  13. Very sad. RIP policeman and condolences to your family.????
  14. I sit here at my computer reading AN about "obeying rules" and all the restrictions being applied by the Thai Government so that individuals cannot enjoy themselves - so pathetic and laughable! I'm glad I now live in a country where "ENJOYMENT" is a key word. There will be plenty of alcohol being drunk in bars, restaurants and at parties after the firework displays at midnight here in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. It is about people spending money to boost the economy!
  15. Thank God he was only vaping and not smoking a pungent Gauloise!!
  16. And so the debate goes on and on and on .................... boring! Personally, I do carry a mask in my trouser pocket, not for Covid-19, but for this - dirt/dust pollution in the air when out in a tuk-tuk. With the dry season now upon us, this was a common sight in rural Thailand where I used to live, and still is today here in Cambodia with many dirt roads. Stock photo taken in Thailand. Moderators please delete if considered irrelevant.
  17. Interesting, was this at a land border crossing? When entering by air, for a visa on arrival in Cambodia, Immigration demand 30 US$ which can be obtained from ATMs near the Immigration desks (Siem Reap and Phnom Penh). Personally, I have never been asked for 1,800 Thai baht on arrival by air but I believe there are dubious practices at the Poipet land border crossing involving so-called "agents".
  18. MAKRO??
  19. Unfortunately "no". You will have to obtain a Tourist Visa (30 days) on entry. Cost 30 US$. (Same for Phnom Penh). As a UK passport holder, you will get 15 days free entry to Vietnam. 3 return flights with Air Asia from DMK to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) at 07:40, 15:40 and 19:25. Whatever you decide, the best of luck.
  20. Second photo - is that the conductress or the local inspector. Whatever, where is her mask???
  21. With respect, may I also suggest Siem Reap. 2 daily return flights with Air Asia from Bangkok DMK at 09:55 and 14:50.
  22. Please note "most likely" not "will"!!
