  1. I used to live near Khon Kaen prior to the pandemic and was a local Tourist Police Volunteer. Here are some answers to your questions regarding Khon Kaen which I hope are current:- Right by the main nightlife area, near Central Plaza, and just a quick stroll, is the prominent luxury Pullman Khon Kaen Raja Orchid. This may be just outside your budget and currently a room costs 2,400 baht per night. There are other less expensive hotels in the same area but I leave you to research on the internet. By bus, there is a regular local service. Forget the Inter-Provincial buses heading south to Bangkok. There is the usual passenger van service and a train service. Trains depart Udon (arrival in Khon Kaen) - 05.55 (7.47) 08.14 (9.29) 13.38 (15.27) 19.03 (20.23) 19.28 (21.10) and 20.17 (21.47). Please check at Udon Station. What is the central entertainment area there? Mostly around the Pullman hotel where there are many bars and restaurants catering for the ex-pats. I seem to remember a nightclub but I soon left due to the ear splitting electronic music, strobes and screaming/shouting/inebriated Thais! Nightclubs are not my scene. The other area of bars and restaurants is across the main Route 2 which divides the city, within the extended University Campus, and to the north west from the Pullman. Obviously very popular with the students and great fun. Taxi/tuk-tuk essential. Whatever you decide, I hope you enjoy but please do your homework and bear in mind that Khon Kaen is not like Bangkok, Pattaya or Patong with all the sex pats/tourists!! Pre-pandemic most bars closed by midnight or 01:00am and "silence was golden"!
  2. ....................until it reaches "Officer" level??????
  3. With the greatest respect, I have my doubts. Reference: the Nation:- Thailand had administered 138.2 million doses. Of these, 56.79 million were first jabs covering 81.7 per cent of the population, 52.8 million were second doses covering 75.9 per cent of people and 28.6 million were third jabs covering 41 per cent. https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/40016416 No information for 4th and 5th jabs. Whilst across the border in Cambodia:- Also, about 63.6% of the people had received a third dose, 27% a fourth jab, and 5.4% a fifth shot, the ministry added. https://en.vietnamplus.vn/cambodias-covid19-vaccination-coverage-close-to-95/239418.vnp I have searched the internet for 4th and 5th doses administered in Thailand but no information. If someone can provide the figures to me, they will be appreciated. I have received my 5th jab of Pfizer.
  4. Very sad indeed, but so be it - it is your choice! Now you will have to go out much earlier because by 2am all bars/nightclubs must be legally closed and those that do not comply run the risk of being raided by the authorities.
  5. Full details in this link to the Khmer Times today (20 December 2022) https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501205331/thai-police-arrest-60-suspects-over-voip-scams-in-cambodia/
  6. For reference:- Elon Musk and Jared Kushner were spotted together at the 2022 World Cup Final. https://www.insider.com/elon-musk-and-jared-kushner-seen-together-at-world-cup-final-in-qatar-2022-12
  7. IMO very refreshing indeed after all the heat and high humidity!
  8. Will this "jab" also cure Delhi Belly????
  9. The same happened to me 4 weeks ago when I flew into DMK with Air Asia. Fortunately I still had my boarding card tucked in my top pocket, normally it would have been ditched in the plastic rubbish bag in the plane. This was the first time I had experienced this. Pre-pandemic, when I was regularly flying with Air Asia "Fly Thru" services to my local Provincial airport from ASEAN destinations, I was never asked for my boarding card.
  10. I retired in 2000 at the age of 56 and I am well built.
  11. Maybe so, but do I care as a tourist - NO. Interestingly, when visiting country bumpkin land, many of my local Thai friends were also not wearing masks!
  12. 5 weeks ago, first on a train from Don Mung Station to Chiang Mai then on an inter-provincial bus between Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen. On a similar bus from Khon Kaen back to DMK, I was not ordered to wear a mask. During the rest of my time visiting friends in Thailand, I remained "mask-less".
  13. When I lived in Lanna, Thailand, I often used to make multiple visits to the locations listed. There are many more tourist spots on the way north to Chiang Rai and east to Phayao. I never tired of this northern part of Thailand as a Tourist Police Volunteer. With respect, may I ask about those ex-pats who routinely stroll from a condo and along the beach to their favourite bar stool? "then you have seen, so what then"!
  14. Very interesting indeed, bringing back many happy memories when I was a Tourist Police Volunteer based in Chiang Rai, before moving across country to Khon Kaen Province. Regarding traffic in CR, the newish by-pass (via airport) might help divert traffic from the City centre.
  15. After my recent experiences of being forced to wear a mask during bus and train journeys whilst on holiday in Thailand, a 2023 new year resolution will be "do not visit Thailand whilst this stupid rule remains - go spend money in another country"!! And before I get barraged with a load of "mask" BS, for those of you who are pro-mask, that is your choice, for those of us who are anti-mask, that is our choice.
  16. With the greatest respect, having lived near Chiang Mai for several years, the following tourist attractions could be included:- Royal Park Rajapruek, Chiang Mai Night Safari, Chiang Mai Zoo and Aquarium, whilst nearby at Mae Rim there are the Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens, Mae Sa Elephant Camp and The Canopy Walks. Pre-pandemic there was Tiger Kingdom and the King Cobra Farm (with shows).
  17. A knicker nicker on the loose??
  18. I am no expert electrician but surely "yes" !! Exactly what I thought when I read this in the OP: "He was electrocuted. Friends pulled him off and called for rescue'"
  19. From link to OP: "he was nearly unintelligible and talking in circles"
  20. Oh dear! More support posts/poles for the microsleep drivers and vehicles with brake failures to crash into??
  21. Very challenging is to complete the circular route from Chiang Mai back to Chiang Mai via Mae Sariang, Mae Hong Son and Pai. Serious roads but fantastic scenery. Total distance 612 kilometers.
  22. Just a "blueprint"! 2024 - 2028 - oh really and wishful thinking???
