  1. From the link to OP: "Local fishing boats were asked to pull the yacht back to the shore" for a "fee"????? Is that a Swiss flag???
  2. As expected, I see the bar stool detectives are trying to solve this one!!
  3. With the greatest respect, many of those up north would think the same about a trip down south to Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket etc. Certainly me when I lived in Thailand!
  4. Great news - keep at it Mister "T' like days of old!!
  5. Diabetic coma, heart attack for starters!
  6. Depending on how many you have, keep them as "souvenirs", they may increase in value over time and be of interest to collectors.
  7. Well done policeman, nice to read of charitable deeds rather than the garbage we occasionally have to put up with!
  8. Carrying "hot" money to the bank???
  9. Evidently "yes" as I witnessed several years ago when I lived in Thailand and a Volunteer with the Thai Tourist Police. Our office received serious criminal accusations regarding the unsavory activities of a local falang. I will elaborate no further. Before we could instigate an investigation at that time, our TP officers needed a copy of the police report made to the local RTP. It transpired a report was never made as the victim's mother feared "loosing face" at a possible future trial involving her young child. Unbelievable but true! The falang got wind of the TP interest and rapidly fled Thailand never to be seen or heard of again.
  10. From the International Section of Khmer Times today (15 September 2022) for all to read:- "The Thai military said in a statement that Yongyuth Mungkornkim (below) – held the rank of lieutenant colonel – opened fire on three military officers with a 9mm pistol" https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501150753/thai-lieutenant-colonel-kills-2-in-shooting-rampage-at-military-headquarters-in-bangkok/
  11. Thank you for your interesting comments. For me, the main reason was "size" being far more generous than Thai equivalents. When I lived in Lanna, I made regular shopping trips to Maesai and crossed the Burmese border into Tachilek. The large duty free shop in Tachilek was stacked with "designer labelled" clothes such as Lacoste, Boss, Armani, Cardin, Hilfiger etc. etc. at a fraction of the price in the local Thai Central Plazas. Of course, they were copies but the quality was there and a large meant large, not a Thai "tight" large!! Never a problem with Customs bringing them back into Thailand - all run by the local Burmese/Thai mafia along with the casinos. I still have shirts and sports trousers here with me in Cambodia purchased around 6 years ago. No singlets/shorts and flip flops for me!
  12. Fortunately I managed to "escape" Thailand to Cambodia just before the borders closed due to Covid-19. Even so, despite less hassle and the simplicity of getting a retirement visa, the above two concerns apply to me. I am currently down 61 US$ per month on my pensions just on the exchange rate between the $ and the GBP. My UK State OAP is frozen at 102 GBP per week (and therefore decreasing in value). As elsewhere throughout the World, cost of living expenses are on the increase for me, especially food prices here in Siem Reap.
  13. Yes indeed, and the map below shows the location of those than can be visited I have visited one example at Chae Son National Park in Lampang Province:
  14. Nasty, something far more involved than a domestic dispute? (an M-16 rifle):- RIP man and lady.
  15. Those ex-pat bar stool pundits leaving on their motorbikes after a session should take note!!
  16. With respect, one of the "bare" necessities in life? RIP old man.
  17. Forget all the reasons why, let us not forget 4 young Thai children drowned in tragic circumstances causing much distress among their families and friends. RIP young ones.
  18. Is this in addition to a fee to cross the bridge? Maybe visitors were not aware of this and decided "no thanks". Special price for farangs???
  19. Hua Hin - get the "help yourself" prawn buffets ready!!
  20. Regretfully you must have been unlucky. There is an official taxi rank on an access road alongside Highway 2 and situated at the west end of Central Plaza (looking towards the main entrance). Always busy with shoppers etc. during my visits.
  21. Strange wording?
