It’s mind-boggling. First and fifth night in a hotel, free in between - what’s the logic behind that? Hardly ‘test and go’………… In other publications I read that the insurance requirements will be changed too and that the only 50k insurances acceptable are those that also pay for quarantine and/or hospitals in asymptomatic positive cases. Problem is that the insurers who offer this cover, almost always exclude people over 70 or 75…..…..

Thailand’s first Omicron variant death reported in Songkhla province
damascase replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Even more unfair: the second ‘victim’ of Omicron is an unvaccinated women, 84, with terminal lung cancer…….. -
Actually the dispute about what’s the oldest profession is between prostitute and the biblical publican (nowadays Customs officer…….. ). When that has been settled the next question will be: ‘which of these professions is the most honorable?’

Is there an Insurance Ombudsman….or complaints office in Chiang Mai.?
damascase replied to mikey88's topic in Chiang Mai
The relevant institution is the Office of the Insurance Commission. For the local CM branch office see https://www.cmhy.city/en/place/3443-office-of-insurance-commission General: https://www.oic.or.th/en/consumer -
As for ‘other countries’, neighboring Cambodja is setting an example with a crystal-clear announcement breathing ‘welcome, foreigner’. Sooo very different from the ambiguous, open to many interpretations and daily changing Thai government ‘communications’. Read it here: https://www.mfaic.gov.kh/covid-19

I’m in the same situation. Our Dutch insurance statements basically say that there are no financial limits on coverage, but apparently the Thai authorities consider 50k USD to be beyond ‘unlimited’…….. So I would be forced to pay for a completely useless, superfluous health insurance, but most of them don’t accept me because of the age limits they set. The only possibility I’ve seen boils down to over 15.000 baht a month - not far from 2.5k Euro for the six months of coverage I need.

The requirement, even if you are going to arrive on a visa exemption, is to have a 50.000 USD general health insurance. You won’t be able to get access without proof of that! Personally I have an unlimited health insurance, which Thailand doesn’t accept as they apparently think that ‘unlimited’ is less than 50.000 USD……..

You could as well have booked with the hotel directly, if you need direct contact with them.

EV push to accelerate Thailand’s efforts against climate change
damascase replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
‘A future driven.by EV’s’ - but spoiled by the emissions during the burning season. -
Another smart move to lure foreigners to Thailand. Must have cost a lot of ‘mulling’ to come up with this one!

This is not being ‘very strict’, it’s a totally wrong application of the law.

Nothing, as I decided to let it go. At my age - over 75 - it was going to cost me over 15.000 baht a month, for the 6 months I planned. Would be throwing good money away as I have unlimited health insurance which is not accepted by TH because the 40.000/400.000 baht coverage is not specifically mentioned. Apparently the concept of unlimited is not well understood……..

If you return on Non-O plus re-entry permit: yes, you do need it, as I experienced. From the Embassy’s website: When requesting for a COE, holders of a valid Re-entry Permit (Retirement) who wish to return to Thailand using the Re-entry Permit (Retirement), are required to submit a copy of health insurance policy which covers the length of stay in Thailand with no less than 40,000 THB coverage for out-patient treatment and no less than 400,000 THB for in-patient treatment. Applicant may consider buying a Thai health insurance online at longstay.tgia.org. You may also be asked by the immigration to present the original insurance policy upon your arrival in Thailand.

Phuket to scrap COVID tests for vaccinated local tourists
damascase replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Just wondering: if fully vaccinated domestic travellers don’t need a negative test result to enter Phuket, why do foreign arrivals continue to have to? What could be the logic - if any - behind that?
