  1.
You political correctness makes you blind for realities in Thailand.

Far from painting everyone with the same brush, OP says a large part of Thai population dislikes thinking things through, and what he means with that is that this behavior is more widespread in Thailand than in Western societies.
And this is totally true !

The Thai education system and traditions explain a large part of the problem, as other posters pointed out.
Many lower class Thais are indoctrinated to not think.

I think that's the same in most of the lower classes across the planet. However the big difference is thais will actually tell you not think to much! But that's just the lower class uneducated... It's just a thai thing

  2. Tourism from Europe is down. However, Massive influx of Chinese tourists who want to experience a change from their sterile cities. The sad scenario though is the Junta are destroying the street culture, the vibrancy of the city that many come to Bangkok for.

Destroy tourism and the Thai economy would collapse.

Why try to fix something that works?

I own a couple of condos in lower Sukhumvit near Asoke bts. Let me tell you the streets are packed and so are the malls and it's low season. Nobody cares about the missing soup stalls or dildo salesman.

At an average spend of $173 a day that's not to shabby and who cares who spends it? The Chinese here are not Pattaya flag followers but Middle class with $$$
  3. That could be said for most hubs. Fly to Paris stay 5 days and then off to somewhere else.

Why do you think bangkok is special? 3 years in a row and 10% growth forecast this year, not by TAT but mastercard. TAT AND mastercard are about the same in predictions. Much to the disgust of TV posters but you just gotta Suck it up boys next year will be 4 in a row!!

Headline should read "Bangkok top transit destination in the world last year" especially for tourists holidaying in other Asian countries. Maybe spend a few days in Bangkok and then move on to less garbage ridden and safer destinations.
Apart from transit passengers take out the 27% Chinese zero dollar tourist invasion and Bangkok would be well down the list.
  4. Oh dear. It's the uneducated thais that say that "think to much 'Given that the majority of farang have married into village girls or associate with bar girls etc.

You really think the higher class we'll educated in a high profile career would say you tink to mut?

There is more to Thailand than isaan or isaan exports

  5. When buying any assets in a Thai name it automatically becomes theirs.remember the old saying possession is 9/10ths of the law.well here it's 100% and a good chance of never seeing it again.having the brother in law have assets in his name would be mental torture for him as he would want to get his hands on his new found fortune with the only thing in the way being an old farang with mega bucks.remember the saying in Thailand always make sure your worth more alive than dead.
Must be a lot of TV posters done the same thing. Putting assets in thai family names and a lot are just Asian hillbillies. Will never understand it. Buy condos and sleep easy

  6. must count flying into the only intl airport of note as 'visiting'; and if they stay there more than just transiting out, then i count those travelers among the world's stupidest
This is a world wide survey. In no way is bangkok the busiest hub. For the first time they have included average stays at 4.7 days. Your airport layover is already included

This thread is dead for good reason. Good news apparently is not well received on TV

  7. Lots remain unclear. Airbnb may legally be able to rent out hotel rooms, and condos
for a month long stay (or longer) but what about the more common 1-2 week rental.
I have read so many times (posted on my condo building notice board, and in the elevators) that
it is illegal to rent condos out for less than a month. This may not make Airbnb illegal
but it would make many of there rentals illegal.
It's not Rocket science. The laws are in place and they are so basic a monkey could recite them.

What your talking about is BREAKING The law. There is a law against not wearing a bike Helmut... BIB do nothing.

Tens of thousands of air bnb hosts break the law because their condo management don't care and the bib don't give a rats.

Don't confuse the law and breaking it. 2 different worlds. TIT !!!

  8. There is a wee difference. In Los the geezer gets the Gf experience the effect being he loses his marbles and hands over a new house.

In the West they just clock watch... Way cheaper [emoji23]

Soo, what's your point? It's like you came up with some great revelation saying old guys in the west can't have 20 yr olds unless...…...unless they have money of course. The only difference is that in Thailand less money is required. There is no difference.

  9. That's monkey abuse.. Will it work on soi dogs [emoji16]

Believe it or not the following works.
The difficult part is the first part.
Set up a trap cage and put food in it for a few days until the monkeys get used to it.
After they have no fear of it and go inside for the food set the trap.
When you catch one monkey inside spray it with a good few bright colours of harmless vegetable based dyes.
    Let the monkey go.
It heads back to the troup and they run from it because it scares them. It doesn't know that so keeps trying to follow in a day or two they are a long way away and the dye fades out so they all end up happy somewhere else.

  10. Get back to us after 7 years where you are now

I think it’s one of those ‘bright shiny things’ that over time the shine wears off. And It builds up over time

I loved Thailand for the first 6-7 years, then it just began to irritate me, from driving, immigration, cost of living(which I don’t think is that cheap anymore), power going off after 2 claps of thunder. And the weather didn’t do it for me either, hot and sticky all the time wore on me.

Now I love going back for a few weeks vacation, it’s bright n shiny, again, but its a few weeks I  can get back the plane a leave before the absurdity of the place kicks back in.

The newbies, and the ones who cant afford to leave, love it and will defend it to the point of insanity.
But if you’re really lived for a long time, you kinda get it
