  1. Booked a month and left a week early and would have kissed the ground arriving back in bangkok if it wasn't so grimy

If you want to be tucked in bed by 9 pm reading a book then chiang mai is for you!

  2. Vietnam doesn't even have a gogo bar, Your friend was coming here for pussy and you sent him away? What sort of friend is that

The PM has just spent a lot of time reassuring the Chinese they are most welcome. He will be gutted to hear this bad news.
I have a friend in Australia who was thinking of coming to Thailand. I told him not to bother; the Prime Minister is only welcoming Chinese tourists. I suggested he go to Vietnam which welcomes all tourists except Chinese.

You have to be rather desperate to need to pay a girl so that you can touch her .
Its sad that you have to pay someone to sit next to you
    I don't I'm in a long term relationship. But even if I wasn't I would still do it [emoji16]

  4. Most places are OK. Plenty of Schwarma kebabs around too. Nickys on Soi Buakao is good....Eat in Royal festival food court downstairs or 5th Floor. The noodle chain MK restaurants.  The french restaurant on Soi 6. The Thai place at the end of soi 6 on Beach Rd. A taste of Thailand next to i bar on WS and soi lenkee. Mays diner Threpasit all the fish places jomtien..Oh The Pattaya beer garden just before WS...definitely try there. Girls, music  good sea views authentic food, good price etc. Dont bother with the fish restaurants in WS but do try the Issan bar second on the right. Then head to Electric Blue Soi 15 WS and Heavens above Soi Diamond and the Windmill.  WS starts at 8pm till 3am. Ibar 8 till 10 cheap bottled beer.  Never drink draft in Thailand. Ibar great sea views and girls. Look out for pies on wheels..Excellent. Thai fast street food Moo ping..thin pork kebabs like sate  10 baht each. The Russian market...Pratumnak soi 5.

Agreed, the beer garden just before walking St has the best views for silly cheap food prices. Was there last night and you can't complain about 60 baht draft beer all night long either

Huge oval shaped bar with free Lancers for around 1k depending on how "hansum" you are

  5. Staying in a condo, follows the government's pricing. 1 Aircon on 14+ hours a day, a fridge, charging electrics and daily usage.
Highest bill I've got so far is 497baht.
You must have a tiny room with the lowest rated AC unit
    No other explanation for it.

Adding condo size would actually add meaning to the spend

    I have 80 sqm and 2x 24000 Btu 14 hours a day and pay 4k

  6. OK but please explain why the price of a lady drink is a 500 600% mark up... Used to be add 30 baht for the girl,  now it's add, 130
In the go go's you get to sit with a relatively pretty young thing up the back while exploring her body.. In the short 10 minutes before she goes dance again but the price is worth it for sure

Don't know what happens in beer bars as I only go to no hassle bars

  7. Vietnam is well worth a visit. Danang, Dalat and Hanoi all interesting places. Did not like HCMC ( Saigon ).
Food is a bit blander than Thailand, breakfasts have the French influence. Hired a scooter, no problem wherever I went.
The coffee in Vietnam is among the best around. I thought for a Communist country the police and army presence was far less visible than Thailand.
They may not be visible but they rule with an iron fist and the human rights record is abysmal

  8. Here's a funny thing. A billion and a half people are not going to entirely vanish, even when the next great depression hits, and it will.
If you are upset about something or someone, they are in your consciousness, you notice them or it.
    A lot.
The Chinese don't bother me, I don't 'see' them.
Try to not let them live rent-free in your head, life's too short.
Woah to deep for me dude, I just let beer [emoji482] take care of the bothersome stuff... Speaking of which I think it's that time of day [emoji16]

  9. But it's a rubbish figure, a wishful prediction, pulled out their arse. They cannot possibly know. And Thailand won't fix their safety record any time soon. And therefore other disasters will occur. And so it goes, until or if they start to invest seriously in safety on land and sea.

I live on lower Sukhumvit BKK and it's annoyingly bursting with Chinese especially T21 that used to be at an acceptable noise level but now is full of yelling china's

In Pattaya now and walking St full of flag [emoji626] followers.

Somebody forgot to tell the Chinese they shouldn't be here

I’ve been commuting from Thailand to Vietnam 3-4 days per week for the past 18 months. So I see both sides quite regularly. But with regard to visas that foreigners can get for long stay, this is one area where Vietnam excels compared to Thailand. Visas are super easy. None of the stupid rules of financials and hours and hours spent standing in lines to deal with loads of unnecessary paper work and bribery and changing rules and all the rest that we all love in Thailand. You just go online, choose the duration and class (business or tourist) visa you want, pay for it with credit card or even PayPal, and then receive it from agent who meets you at the arrivals hall at the airport, then in and out multiple entry visa good for a year. You can get a 1 year multiple entry business visa for about $500. You can work with it, live with it, open bank accounts, everything. There aren’t the stupid rules prohibiting foreigners from working. If you go to a french restaurant, it’s quite refreshing that all the staff are French, same for Argentinian, English, Moroccan, etc. It’s a million times more foreigner friendly and business friendly than Thailand. The rest are just lifestyle issues which you’ll need to see and compare for yourself.

Personally I find the cost of living similar, give or take a few things. There is much better nightlife in Vietnam. I find Vietnam food to be better and cheaper than Thai food, and foreign foods about the same quality and cost, depends where you go. I do find Vietnam much safer, much less crime, and driving is a million times easier and more refreshing without so many kamikaze motorbike drivers as in thailand. Amazingly, there are more motorbikes in Vietnam as compared to cars and almost no accidents at all.
What type of nightlife is better?

  11. In what way do AirBNB and the others offering the same services check who the actual host is?
It's been a while since I did mine. They did actually ask for utility bills passport or picture ID and they then use face recognition software that matches a separate pic to your photo ID right there on your PC or at least they used to

And then of course there are bank account details etc.

Asking for utilities actually does sort of do an owners check [emoji819]

The host doesn't get paid untill 24 hours after check in to make sure the property in the pics is what it reflects.
