I am not on Ed visa.  I am on retirement visa and I was there for the annual extension.  I have never been asked any map of anything for years.  this is the first time, that is why I am asking if this is becoming a new request in Bangkok change wattana office.  they never did before.

I had assumed you were doing a yearly extension and not ed or tourist stuff. I am not retired but reading the thread it seems some are saying the same as you, that now they have started asking retirees for the map. It seems this has been required in other offices for some time. For marriage it has always been that way. in CW. I thought retirement visas had to do the same but apparently not until recently for some. It's no big deal. I am sure it's just to help IO's locate your place should they need to visit you.

They seem to ask this of people on extension of stay for marriage and it is also required of migrant workers here on L-A visas - both for the initial visa and for extension. I have no experience of B visas, Ed visas etc.

My local IO was perfectly happy with downloaded map from Google Maps.

For B visa and extensions based on employment I think the company provides a map to the place of work and a map to your residence isn't required.

Well, maybe they asked it for you for a retirement visa this time. For me I've never been asked in 5 years of going to Chaeng Wattana starting of with ED visas for 2 years then tourist visas for the last 3 years. Not once have they asked for it for any of those extensions.

Well of course they haven't, you are a tourist! Tourist visas would not require it as they are not classed as living here, those extending permission to stay for a year based on marriage or retirement do need to provide a map showing the location of their residence.

  4. It would depend on where you live in Thailand.

    From BKK to HCMC, Vietnam

7am Air Asia from DMK to HCMC. Take taxi to from the airport (use Vinasun or Mai Linh) to the consulate and put the application in.

Pick up passport next day in the afternoon from the consulate and fly back Air Asia to DMK around 9pm.

A hand written letter from wife requesting the visa is required otherwise it's the same as Savanakhet.

There are recent reports from thai visa members confirming the rules are unchanged there.

  5. wow, this has ran on a bit. thanks everyone.

going back to post #6 i think i have my answers.

it looks like i have no need for a UK licence so i won't bother to get it.

i just asked about that in case there might have been a problem to use my thai licence.

sorry if i didn't make that clear.

i'll use the thai licence and book a car in advance.

    thanks all ????

Worth checking Rental Restrictions for Europe. Some restrict you to Mini type Cars if you under 30, and some hefty daily surcharges if under 30.

thanks, i will be on the motorway quite a bit so there's no way i am going to hire a vauxhall corsa!

I am 44, i am sure they'll be no problem hiring a vauxhall vectra or equivalent

  7. i hope this is in the correct place, sorry if it is not.

I will go to the UK for christmas for a week and have looked everywhere for my UK licence but it has disappeared, hasn't been used for many years and we have moved around quite a bit so i have given up looking.

Does anyone know if i can get a new license whilst in thailand? from the DVLA website i don't think it can be done, i have tried to call them but, good luck getting any answer from them, i gave up.

so if i cannot renew here is there a way to apply online but using a relatives address in the UK and ask them to post to me here or would the dvla need proof i lived there?

i want to hire a car for the week i am in the uk, has anyone used a thai license to rent a car from heathrow airport.

I would think that a thai person would be able to so but as a british person does anyone know if i would have a problem just renting using my thai license and if there are any issues in doing such as affect insurance etc.

Many thanks if anyone has any ideas
