another professional critic of all things Thai. Anyone without a phone can expect to have problems traveling during this. That's just a covid reality. Life isn't easy, never will be. I'm sure the government is not concerned with babysitting those few people. If they are farang there's no excuse. Second hand phones are cheap, I got all mine on ebay. You can ask any 10 year old to teach you the basics of how to use an app. If they are Thai I'm sure there are means to deal with it. You DO remember whose country it is, right? Not yours.

Thank zeus the world has people like you. Some of us like to live our own life.

We believe we are quite comfortable living our own life while obeying ALL relevant laws.

This is a fantastic idea that should be implemented across all of the Shopping malls & large grocery stores across the whole of Thailand.

Wow!!! Could our esteemed PM have them install this fantastic device outside their store to help all Bankokians as I am sure the virus leaves their front doors when their customers exit the premises.

I am not saying it is a bad idea, but I am just saying in the scheme of things it is just a flea bite on an elephant.

If a company/store owner have a scheme to benefit the whole population let us know. Otherwise keep yourself clap happy news to yourself.

BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Education has announced its commitment to improving the quality of education provided at schools, streamlining complicated regulations, and hiring more foreign teachers.

The Minister of Education Nataphol Teepsuwan has disclosed the Ministry of Education’s overall performance in 2020, acknowledging that there were some limitations preventing certain targets being achieved, such as budget regulations.

He said the existing regulations will need to be streamlined and improved to reduce the complexity, while some redundant rules will also need to be cancelled.

Mr Nataphol said the Ministry of Education has this year adopted a clear action plan to achieve its future targets, such as the reduction of class hours while improving learning activities, as well as the development of community schools.

The Ministry of Education earlier proposed to the Cabinet a new school lunch budget calculation, which will cover cases of school mergers, where the budget for the smaller schools will be transferred to the new medium or large schools formed from the merger.

The Ministry of Education’s plan is also aimed at promoting the employment of foreign teachers, addressing some existing regulations that have complicated the process, while promoting other campaigns such as the Human Capital Excellence Center, the DEEP platform, and the Excellence Individual Development Plan, all of which help increase opportunities to improve the education system.

PM concerned about drunk driving during New Year holidays

    By THE NATION

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed concerns about the increasing number of road accidents during the New Year holidays with drunk driving emerging as the leading cause, Government Spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said on Saturday.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Friday that 186 people were killed and over 1,600 injured in road accidents during December 29-31, with 38.04 per cent of accidents caused by drunk driving.

“The PM has urged officials at police checkpoints to strictly follow the screening protocols in inspecting travellers to make sure that their vehicles are in safe condition, motorcyclists wear helmets, the legal speeding limit is respected and there is no drunk driving,” said Anucha. “Officials have also been told to monitor sellers of alcoholic beverages to make sure that they are following the laws.”

Police checkpoints nationwide will also serve Covid-19 preventive efforts, as officials will scan the temperature of the motorists as well as enforce the mandatory face mask policy in public vehicles.

“General Prayut also urged all citizens to prevent road accidents by being extra careful on the road and taking it easy on partying during the New Year festivities,” added Anucha. “Never drive if you had a drink, and always think about your family and the safety of other road users whenever you are behind the wheel.”

Dear PM. Maybe you are unaware, but drink driving happens EVERYDAY of the week, here in Thailand.

It is good of you to ask your citizens to be aware in this New Year period, but don't you think it would be more

beneficial to ask your upholders of the law to do their job and enforce ALL the laws.

    Regards a concerned citizen.

So twelve more days off a year in addition to the already known holidays, basically, it makes me think that there will never be a full week of work for the Government offices and the backups at DLT, and Immigration will continue unabated.  They need to look at allowing all people needing services with Immigration the ability to use any location and not just the ones in their provinces as well as looking at some online abilities such as they currently have for doing the 90 day report, and the TM30.  Maybe allowing longer hours per day would help on cutting down the ques and backup that they currently have at places like DLT and CW here in Bangkok which seems to be the locations most severely impacted due to the long closures for Covid and Holidays.

Methinks their best solution would be to say: "stuff it, stay as long as you like. We don't know what we are doing anyway".

NAKHON RATCHASIMA (NNT) - Police forces nationwide have joined forces to protect the safety of the general public during the New Year holidays, while promoting precautionary measures against COVID-19.

In Nakhon Ratchasima, the Provincial Police Region 3 Commissioner Pol Maj Gen Thakoon Nanthisiri, presided over the dispatching ceremony of crime suppression patrol units operating during the New Year holidays from 25th December 2020 to 3rd January 2021.

Government agencies in Nakhon Ratchasima have come together in this campaign to promote public safety through strict law enforcement, in order to give visitors to the province, as well as people returning to their hometown, peace of mind this New Year season.

In Nong Khai, the Commissioner of Nong Khai Provincial Police, Pol Maj Gen Kittisak Chamrasprasert has presided over the dispatching ceremony of similar public safety units, who will also be promoting preventative practices against the spread of COVID-19 while ensuring the safety of the public this holiday season.

These units are comprised of police officers, military officials, officials from the Mekong River Unit, and some 150 volunteer paramedics.

Officials in these units are authorized to carry out raids on suspicions locations to find narcotics, illegal articles, guns, and unauthorized weapons and ammunition. They will be setting up checkpoints to check the drivers’ alcohol level, as well as checking persons based on valid arrest warrants.

Service points will be set up as part of the campaign to promote self-protective measures against COVID-19 among the general public, which include wearing a face mask, frequent hand washing, social distancing, and avoiding crowded places.

Defence deputy hunting corrupt border officials who open door for Covid

    By The Nation

    800_5db95163c63d1f3.jpg?v=1608734004

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday tasked Deputy Defence Minister Chaichan Changmongkol with the job of catching corrupt Thai officials who allow illegal immigrants to enter Thailand.

Chaichan will lead the crackdown on border corruption thought to be behind Thailand’s latest outbreak of Covid-19, detected last week among Myanmar migrant workers in Samut Sakhon.

The country has six immigration offices and 93 checkpoints screening people who cross the border, but poorly guarded natural routes open a loophole for trafficking of migrant workers.

The locations of greatest concern are two points in Chiang Rai province, Tak’s Mae Sot district, and three points in Ranong province – all bordering Myanmar.

National police chief Suwat Jangyodsuk said that information about a trafficking gang helping immigrants cross the border was being investigated.

Royal Thai Armed Forces spokesman Chaowalit Sangkarit said initial investigations cleared Thai Army troops of involvement with the traffickers since the gang mostly operated by boat across the marine border in Ranong province.

A Royal Thai Navy spokesman insisted that all immigrants found crossing into Thailand by sea were documented and legal.

However, a source said the traffickers use regular border routes but bribe officials at the checkpoints to remain silent.

Prayut is thought to have a list of Thai officials suspected of being involved in the people-trafficking trade and is waiting for more evidence in their cases.

Chaichan will reportedly reveal the names of the suspects soon.
