Somehow I much doubt that this was the initial intention for the bulk of the farangs moving to Thailand. They were dreaming in the home countries to come here and support extended families in the sticks and so on? By the time they have figured what's going on, they were too much invested to have other choices.
And fair enough.
People Wai to me here and I wave it of. I do not Wai, a wave is as good as a wink.

When I buy groceries in Australia do I need to wai the supermarket workers because they are "contributing" something, providing food to keep me alive? Nope, we have a deal, money in exchange for food. In fact some here are getting really good deals, like wifes younger than their daughters, try to price this in the home countries.
There are some real volunteers contributing selflessly, but they are few and far between.
Well we are not in Australia anymore Toto.
Go live in a rural community, support an extended family as well as your own children.

The step down to the water was full of people just standing there, ooing and ahing their little offerings. We waited, and we waited, and we waited. It became obvious they had no intention of moving and letting the buildup of people behind them take their turn. I asked my wife what was their problem. She told me they were government workers, implying that made them very important and special. I asked her to ask them to move off the platform and let other people through, as my Thai is limited. She was terrified at the thought. I went down amongst them, and by sign language and gentle pushes indicated their time was up and they should move. They did, with much indignation, but I could see the other "common" people gathered there were pleased and happy to see them go. It appears it not just us farangs that get the dirty end of the stick, anyone in any position of so called "authority " here treats those they deem beneath them with contempt. Its not just about the money they imagine we roll in.
Well done and I agree. Pretentious so an so's.

I almost wish I hadn't started the topic. What was a very upsetting time has actually been made worse by the fact that no-one responded for a week and then you all came in 3 days after the dog died. Everything that happened is on my conscience but to be honest I knew the answer to mu own question anyway. The vet I go to saved a number of my dogs from Parvo, and I have a reasonable opinion of him, but since then he often palms me off on to the young female vet. She butchered my male dog's ear and I guess I was dubious that the good vet would do the operation as he obviously makes more money off his Thai clients with their poodles and toy dogs.
As a dog lover I hold with your views. Treatment for minor problems is fine but intervention in the case of tumors. compound fractures, etc in older animals are often a stop gap measure and does not necessarily relate to their previously happy wellbeing.
Why subject an animal to a substandard life, same for humans, when a quiet, gentle route would be so much easer for patient and loving carers.
Just a shame that there was little you could have done but it is done now.

To the OP, you could have saved the problems by an offer take a few of them to lunch.
Hard times and all.

I have a Bison 115 cc, Honda copy engine and after adjusting the spark plug, cleaning the fuel system, tank, hose and carbie it works OK. Plastic base is a problem but it does the job now that I only mow a flat lawn. 6500 baht from Global House but I would never purchase another Bison, anything.

I live in the sticks and yer the 7/11 shops deliver, never used them myself. I think I would be out of their delivery zone.Been into Korat a fair bit lately for vax and Anti-natel visits for the wife and these rats on bikes ( grab, food panda, etc) annoy the hell out of me. No regard for other road users all because they have a delivery box on the back of their scoot.Bad management by the delivery fella I do feel some empathy for him but in the long run I would put his misfortune down as ironically appropriate.

I grow my own, along with other herbs.
By the time the millitary grade coriander comes online there will not be a shortage or high prices. Talk about a reactive PM. This fella is a Slow.

Normal guys wouldnt be leering at younger females to even notice what they looked like .
Its abnormal for any guys to spend their time leering at females, let alone older guys
Depends on ones definition of "normal". Ok leering is out but looking is fair enough.
I am getting to old not to enjoy beauty when I see it.

Why do we need to see this every night on every free to air channel. Absolute rubbish and sheer propaganda.
Monks and silly uniformed people depicted as Gods. Fair dinkum, you are watching a movie and whops, come watch this nonsense, clowns with more medals and ribbons than Idi Amin.
Personally I just go for a shower most nights but the concept depicts insecurity by a very inept Govt and others of insignificance.
Tonight's episode highlighted the Thailand Tourism Awards for 2021, oh how I laughed. Just now while I type old mate Chaa Chaa or whoever this pretender is, is spruiking about what a fantastic job his clowns are doing and has the hide to end his speel with a thankyou.
Hope this post sees the light of day. I just had to it of my chest.
Time for my shower

neighbours are a nightmare here. theres an old lady near our back yard area that burns charcoal everyday to cook. She doesnt have gas cooker. it comes in our windows everyday.
another neighbour sometimes burns plastic. all neighbours have to smell this and would you believe its at 4am in the morning.
lucky for us we are renting...
I like living here in Issan mostly but I could do without the smell of burning plastic and rubber inner tube the clowns use to light their fires, cooking or otherwise.
That is my major bug-bear. The chooks and dogs have nothing on stinking smoke when tring to enjoy a quiet meal at home.
Just stupid.
Flapping roof iron on the neighbours chook sheds and houses ( most of them) also gets my goat but I am not going to fix their roofs for them. I just hope the wind is blowing in their direction. Bit of luck it will knock someones elses block off and not one of my family.
