I present the greatest thread to ever grace an expat forum, I have never read anything even remotely as horrific and entertaining as this mess start to finsh. took me a week but was well worth it.
give it a read just for fun! it takes place in phil not thailand
Good lord this is gold.
And very accurately portrays the danger marriage and family can potentially be.
The fellow is perhaps one of the stupidest people to ever walk the earth.
There exist a very upwardly moble middle class in the philipines, and some very wealthy folks, but they would not be interested in an old fart moving out of thailand due to income, inflation and visa issues.
There is also a very hardcore poor segment that will do anything for a free ride or a meal ticket. Huge, prolific, extended catholic families with no shame.
Say what you will, thailand has nothing on the philipines for chewing up and spitting dopey old men out. Few live long enough to complain online though.

Forget it.
I did a bunch of investments into companies there, such a pain in the ass, worse than vietnam even.
Foreigners can absolutely not run a company there, foreign lawyers are absolutely not allowed to work at all (here they just cant go to court). You cannot own more than 40% of a PH company, setting up companies takes forever, they basically have just stock listed companies, even if they arent really listed.
Like a Thai PLC - a limited, BOI etc is not available.
The legal system absolutely is absolutely HILARIOUS - some crackpot had to come up with that, no lawyer understands it. They copy/pasted spanish law and later english law and now it's an absolute giant mess.
Cant buy a house either.
Around 8 years between thailand and phils with the last 5 in phils full time except for visits "home" to Thailand.
The op is being naive in everyway, especially when it comes to the women.
The only thing easy is the visas.

I have never even considered this as an issue to be honest.
I have a wallet with DL, ATM cards and cash. Sometimes i have 10K, which gradually gets spent and then when convenient and passing an ATM i simply withdraw more. I have never felt threatened of being mugged in Thailand (unlike home country) so don't really see a threat of carrying money around with me.
Not even sure why people stop to think about it any different to they would in their home country.
ah but many live their lives here as if they were on safari.

I said merely that there must be a back story. I did not offer any speculation as to what it was.

Possibly just an old derelict alchoholic who finally ran out of money.
Well the assumption is that he must have a back story, and did not simply spring into existence, wheelchair and all, from a vaccum.
I reckon that is a fair assumption

Im unclear as to how you can be so staunchly pro brexit, yet have no issues in procuring a passport which allows you to work in the eu.
You see no hypocrisy there?

Acting swiftly AFTER it has happened , maybe because its a Japanese guy,you would never heard about if it was a Thai.
regards worgeordie
Is that the fault of the police or media.
Do you exist purely to make ridiculous statements?

The moral of this story is don’t be out at 1:20am. There’s no reason to be and your chances of being the victim of a crime sky rockets.
There are many reasons to be out at that time. What are you the gatekeeper of bed times?

Quite a few people. I've carried 800,000baht after getting £ exchanged into baht, in fact carried the Baht all the way to Trang on the train till I got to my bank. When lived in BKk and I went to an atm I would always take out 20,000baht at a time. I had a friend who would always go out with £1,000 in his wallet. Different people, different ways.
I think you are missing the utter riduculousness of the question, given 20000 baht, just hpens to be the exact amount of money everyone entering the country on a tourist visa is required to carry.

Post 12 & 13 are still valid. Period.
Only thing disturbing is the fact that none of your neighbors qualify for Chanote-Papers. How did you manage to upgrade your property to "Chanote" and your neighbors were (appearantly) not able do do the same? Quote: "All the surrounding land is NS3 so no chanot markers". ???
There might be the "root of the problem".It costs money to upgrade, the neighbors have not yet seen fit to do so.

Perhaps announcing it was not the way forward.
A patrol car hovering 30 cm above the road does seem convincing though.

The ‘old’ tourists were also lower class westerners. The only reason they could come and spend money here was because of the currency exchange rate and the cheaper prices. In their own countries, they were not exactly doctors or lawyers or surgeons but truck drivers, rubbish collectors and other blue collar workers who were not exactly rolling in it.
Thank you for pointing that out. It certsinly needed doing.
