i'm so used to it after all these years here, mai bpen rai..

I noticed it in 2 restaurants / coffee shops in Sydney last year.

Back in Thailand, 99% of toilets have a bum spray which is far more efficient / hygienic compared to toilet paper which just smears any residual faeces across the anal area and  doesn't remove it all.

this one, i can understand. the whole ticket system is archaic and dates back to the Mesozoic era. back home the cop writes up a ticket and you can pay at any bank or send a check in the mail. here, they take our licences (i am not sure if this has changed yet... i have not got a ticket in a while... but it was supposed to change) and we have to go pay at the station. if i am coming from bkk and going to rayong, i dont want to waste time by going to the station...

in a nutshell, the whole system was rigged to promote corruption. but hey, who am i to complain? i am just a falang even if i should have my green card already.

Yes the process has changed, quite a lot.

Not only the bible, ample archaeological discoveries over the years pointed to the undisputed facts that Jews/Israelite

have occupied the holy land now Israel and not a mention of Islam/Palestinians of today,

An article today says that Putin planning to execute the 4 ISIS terrorists that killed all those Russians last week,

(link will be supplied if requested) something that Israel have never even contemplated when dealing with terrorists with much

blood on their hands, or may they should have? who knows, as the most of the world hate Jews and Israel anyway...

And in the news today evidence that Jesus never existed.

There is a long thread about tax that was started way back when but it kept going round in circles and became far too long and convoluted to be understandable. It took a while to get control of the subject but I think that was finally achieved, although not to everyone's satisfaction! I think the debate has been structured since the start of the year and that people are now finally beginning to understand the issues.

Agree, and thanks for the devoted work.

I don't believe it extends to grandchildren. Children can be counted as a deduction, up to age 26, as long as in full time education.

Here's the link to the PWC 2023/2024 tax guide, you'll find all the deductions/exemptions in there.

Thanks, appreciated, and I'm guessing other members will very likely also be interested in this.

The basic deductions for an over 65 year old are 190k for over age 65 years plus 60k personal allowance. There is also a zero tax rated band of 150k. If the difference between those two allowances and the 500k you mention is derived from ANY source that is not covered by a DTA and/or is taxed at a lower rate in the home country than it is in Thailand, the income is assessable to Thai tax. Not registering for a TIN and not filing taxes to declare that income, assuming the person was Thai tax resident, means that person is guilty of tax evasion for which there are harsh penalties.

    I make an example:

    - Receive Oz OAP every 4 weeks by bank transfer, about 460,000Baht.

Less allowances in the Thai tax system:

    - Age allowance 190,000Baht because over 65,

    - Personal allowance 60,000Baht

    - Threshhold of 150,000Baht.

    TOTAL 400,000Baht

    Deduct 400,000BAht from 460,000Baht = 60,000

I receive no other taxable income.

Therefore no tax payable (my understanding).

I've had a Thai personal tax number for over 25 years, now retired.

I live in Thailand permanently (Thai PR for 26 years) so where do I stand re tax resident / non-resident?

I've tried to find a Rev. Dept. website (in English) which quotes these various allowances but no luck.

I'm wondering if there's an allowance for supporting grand childen (e.g. school fees), any comments appreciated. Asking for myself and 2 farang friends.

Appalling behaviour from the workers not helping there colleagues get medical help, but Thai authorities cant keep using cheap labour as cannon fodder.

Sadly they prevented their colleagues from getting medical care and possibly true the migrant workers (MW) didn't understand what medical care was needed.

Ultimately, given the very poor way MW are treated, and perhaps because of some previous experiences I don't blame them from trying to get some benefits for the injured.

Your annual pension income is 460,000 baht.

Your deductions/allowances/exemptions are 190,000 (over age 65 allowance) plus 60,000 (personal allowance) PLUS 100,000 (50% of pension income deduction, to a maximum of 100,000), for a grand total of 350,000.

That leaves 460,000 minus 350,000 or 110,000 baht to be applied against the tax tables. The first 150,000 of assessible income is zero rated which means you have no tax to pay.

I cannot speak to what the Australia/Thai DTA might say but I don't see that it would impact the calculation above, in any way.

Thank you, I'll go back to sleep now with an easy mind.

I think hybrids are the way to go.

I've had a Tesla for over 5 years already.

I even have a home charger but if you go on a trip that's over 2 hours it's a hassle.

First you need to find a charging station which are far and few between and often times you'll need to wait 15-20 just to start charging and then you'll need to charge your car for at least 15-30 minutes.

My next car will be definitely be a hybrid.

I'd stay away from Nissan from what I've researched.

Their hybrids are not very unsophisticated.

I think Toyota's make some of the best hybrids....

But can you carry an electric charger with you on the trip and plug it in when you stop to recharge / to stay the night?  (Provided of course you can find a secure location where the charger won't be stolen.)

I have no intention of causing an argument. But, instead of quoting from handouts and info gained from other sources, try visiting a TRD office and asking for their take on this highly contentious subject. When I visited earlier this month I was greeted with complete surprise and asked why I wanted a TIN number. This from the head lady of the office. She said I was the first person in the province to request this, and having looked at the papers of my income I offered, insisted there was no need. Was I about to argue? It was a case of khorp Khun Khap, a quick wai and I hightailed it out of there.

If you are over 65 years old and do not transfer more than 500K into Thailand (Given all the allowances), then you are not required to pay tax in Thailand. In fact you do not have to register at the tax office, as they are not interested in the extra work that would generate given the number of foreigners in the country.

guess you mean 500,000Baht per annum, meaning money coming in less allowances that can be claimed.

    - Is that the situation regardless of age?

    - Or is there an age point where this all changes?  (e.g. 80 years old)?

    - And, if the funds coming in are all from a government old age pension and the recipient  has no other income, what's the situation?

Maybe, Some years back the paymaster made it very clear j'pob was not his favorite and the paymaster also instructed his son who was often being seen with j'pob to stay well clear of this loudmouth who is rather pink tainted. (But I'm not criticising that, just his natural behavior, his choice.)

I have the same problem as the OP. Your idea sounds like a great solution, I will try it. Thanks!

I'm 80 in a few months and I do forget things.

With my ATM card I have trained myself to seriously go through 'routines',e.g:

    After doing a withdrawal:

    - Is the cash in my wallet?

    - Is the ATM card in my wallet?

    - Is the slip in my wallet?

    - Is there any cash not yet collected in the slot that pushes the cash out?

    - Is my ATM card sitting in the slot in the ATM machine?

    - Is there any slip not yet collected from the slip 'output' slot on the ATM machine.

    - Is my wallet back in my pocket?

    - Is my smartphone in my pocket?

For me this deliberate step by step 'routine' works.

I now apply a 'routine' to other activities, e.g.:

    • At BIG C etc I suddenly think of something more that I need to buy, not on my shopping list.
    • I DON'T think 'oh I need to get that item before I leave'.
    • I go immediately to that product shelf and put it in my cart
    • I never 'abandon' my cart, I take it with me every step.
    • Then I resume my shopping from my prepared shopping list.
