I think you just summed it up.  I had a professor in college who said “ time is money and money is life”.  This is not true in LOS.

I miss the bum gun. After living in LOS and using a bum gun, using my hand to push a bit of tissue paper where the sun don't shine is disgusting.

Always surprises me when I read negative reports / comments about bum gun / sprays.

So easy, so quick, achieves good level of cleanliness, no paper to dispose of.

Years back my oil refining employer at Map Ta phut brought in 20 specialised western engineers, all on 2 - 3 year contract, all provides with close to new 3 - 4 western bedroom style houses all with several bathrooms.

All new engineers arrived within about 2 days, taken straight to their houses then taken to Foodland in Pattaya for a big shop up all paid for by the company.

All bought several giant packs of toilet rolls.

Within 48 hrs a big deputation of wives of the new engineers arrived at the company HO at Map TA phut. Their demand was that all the disgusting spray contraptions be immediately removed and taken away.

All attempts by the longer-term western staff to explain that the bum sprays weren't disgusting and were in fact very practical, easy to use and produced very clean bottoms totally not accepted by the new wives protest group.

A Thai English speaking engineer joined the discussion and mentioned that 99% of the houses, condos, apartments owned / occupied by Thai people across all of Thailand had these bum sprays and Thai people saw them as useful and produced good cleanliness. His comments not accepted.

Another Thai employee then suggested that the company quickly create a team of people to very quickly replace all the sprays with new, also not accepted.

Thai manager then mentioned that the company didn't own the houses involved and the rental contracts mentioned that house occupants / the company paying the rents were prohibited from making any type of alterations to plumbing or anything else.

Thai engineer then suggested the company buy a large quantity of black plastic bags the right size and put each hose and spray into a black bag and tie it to the existing wall plumbing fittings so as to as much as possible put the black bags out of sight.

This was agreed. But it was discovered later that some of the farang wives had demanded that their husbands remove the hose and spray, and they did.

The facilities I might be using, toilets in the Malls in Pattaya, for some reason do not have them.

Because customers steal the bum gun spray and/or the bum gun spray and the hose.

I just wrote I'm aware of that in a subsequent post. Obviously foreigners working in forbidden professions like waiters and bartenders are responsible for their own choices and actions. Getting a work permit for a DJ, performer, manager, etc shouldn't be a problem for a business that cares about their employees.

The specific people I'm thinking about are mostly club managers, security managers, PR team managers, DJs, etc.

I don't think I know any westerners working as bartenders or cleaners - and it makes sense since the wages are too low. I do know some Burmese and such who do, but I have no idea what their visa status is.

Regional workers (Myanmar, laos, Cambodia, Vietnam) work under different WP rules, and many do have work permits specific to their nationality / jobs etc. Cannot compare to work permits for EU, US, German, Australian and similar foreigners.

I pay tax on my 3 pensions in the UK do I now pay tax here too?

Tax on state pensions transferred to Thailand, and the only income of the foreigner seems to be the area where there's very few / zero answers.

It surprises me that none of the new 'gurus' have addressed this specific scenario.

But I'm guessing these new 'gurus' can't see any potential fees / commissions etc., for themselves in this scenario (Tax on state pensions transferred to Thailand, and the only income of the foreigner) so seems to be the area where there's very few / zero answers.

No fees available for the gurus, so it gets ignored.

And what about the employers who chose to hire them without arranging for proper visas?

I know a lot of foreigners working in the nightlife industry, the majority of the cases they would love to become legal, but the company they work for does everything to avoid and delay sponsoring their visas. One of my friends took two years(!) before he was able to get one, others had to resort to questionable agent-bought visas because management didn't want/bother to arrange a proper one.

If they prosecuted management and owners instead of employees things would get fixed real quick...

"I know a lot of foreigners working in the nightlife industry, the majority of the cases they would love to become legal, but the company they work for does everything to avoid and delay sponsoring their visas."

What actual jobs do they do? Are they barmen, waiters, or ????

I'm wondering if you believe that management / owners can support work permit applications for any job.

That's not true, there's a long list of jobs / professions which can only be performed by Thai nationals.

So 'he' is claiming Thai PR on the basis of:

    - because married to a Thai citizen for 15 years, he brings in and spends more money than the average Joe and he speaks Thai reasonably well.

Nothing mentioned about having worked in Thailand for at least 3 consecutive years with a Thai work permit (WP) and that WP still valid, and proof or having submitted a Thai personal tax return for same period and proof that any tax payable had been paid.

Everything in my para immediately above is very relevant and is the normal core requirement to gain Thai PR.

It's been mentioned before there's a very small number of cases where other circumstances have also taken into consideration, but not 'I spend big every month'...

No doubt 'he' will be back with a full report of the meeting with the police committee.

    I'll add another point.

I've heard PR holders say that 1 day over the 5 year requirement to update the Red Police book will bring cancellation of PR / will mean the local police cancel your PR status.

This is not correct. PR status is 'controlled' by a special team within the RTP - the Thai Immigration Bureau. Other police (e.g. local police including a policeman who does the red book update at selected police stations) do not have the authority or responsibility to cancel PR.

Also the local police including a policeman who does the red book update at selected police stations doesn't have any official line of communication with the Thai Immigration Bureau. I asked about this when I returned to LOS well over he 5 year period after the Covid- 19 situation had reduced and travel in and out had become much easier. The local police guy indicated clearly that late update of the red book (regardless of Covid- 19) was not reported to the Thai Immigration Bureau and there is no process to do that.

As already mentioned he also told me and my adult Thai son that the police who handle the red book update are well aware that there's several very old farang who are always very late to do the update and/or haven't done the 5 year update for many years.

He said clearly, 'this is not a problem, we don't follow up on these cases, they could be fined (very small fine) but I (police guy) have never done that, and it has no affect on the PR status of the foreigner.

He did also mention that he was aware that foreigners must get an exit and r-entry stamp in their passport before they travel abroad but that was an Immigration office function and not a police matter.

Are you talking about getting Thai work permits or the specific visa which is issued after the foreigner has received a Thai work permit?

And are you aware of the requirements to gain a Thai work permit?

I have a question about helping wife and her menopause-problem which is: she is gaining weight,

She is Isaan, of course they are gaining weight, but this is a bit too much for her.

I do not know how to help her more than to find a doctor or a hospital who can advise her about weightloss. problem is NOT food, she is eating like she always has, but still gaining weight. She is in june only 49, seems to be a pity to start to be too "big" at such an age.

You guys can you recommend please any hospital or doctors in and around Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen or Khorat-area, that would be highly appreciated by me.

    Thank you

Just read a thread about B-Quik, ok, my personal experiences just in the last 30 days:

B-Quik, front shocks, 8000+, Honda service centre, 7000, amazing, ain't it?

Sirikit Government Hospital, full abdomen CT scan, 19,500 Jomtien (private) Hospital, 18,600, amazing ain't it?

Room air purifier, exact same brand, Homepro 9,000 and Lazada 4,800 what a shocker!

Friend just bought tickets Bangkok - Krabi return, 8000 per person x 6 from a travel agent.  I peeked online and see tickets on the exact same dates, same class of service, for under 3000 per person!

And the GF says you get what you pay for, wants to shop at the most expensive stores for clothes, 90% polyester, cheap as sh*t material, costing 3000 for a top.

TIT, guys, shop around, pay what you want, but I think the key word is, in LOS, shop around!

    Same in every country.

Just say NO !!  You'll need to say NO again to your Thai wife, so start NOW.

B230,000 ?  Say sorry, NO dowry possible ?

    If she loves you, she'll marry you anyway . . . . .

Seems to have been forgotten that dowry is common in many countries and has been for centuries.

    -  In some countries the groom / groom's family pays the dowry.

    -  In some countries the bride / brides family pays the dowry.

Ultimately these activities are standard, But if one person doesn't like the idea then that's their personal attitude / choice.

    Ultimately these things are cultural.

That doesn't bother me too much, it's the method of restocking that I don't like, a lot of them put the new stock in front of (or on top) the old, and it's not limited to supermarkets either, when I bought some boxes of beer in my local wholesaler the front stacks were all dated within 1 month, the stacks behind were over 6 months old, didn't like it when I insisted that I was supplied from the front stacks only.

That can happen, there's lazy folks everywhere.

I am aware that at least 2 major supermarket operators in Thailand have policy that older stock must be at the front.

There's a number of points with this:

    - Shops want to recoup their total costs of selling and they want to do this quickly so they want their ongoing auto. sales / stock analysis* to reveal that older stock leaves the shelf first, and their auto. analysis does auto. flag if the sequence is out of order. And there will be some investigation 'what's going on here?'

    • * supermarkets, department stores, all selling / business activity is analysed to death nowadays and that analysis reveals many interesting points, all valuable in operating successful business.
    •

    - Shops don't want to risk stock being 'past use by date' which brings more selling administration which costs money.

    -And there's more...

Maybe, but at least they are mostly polite and allow access. A load of goods is not so obliging

Are you saying that supermarket staff / shelf repackers are not polite? And don't allow access to shoppers? Both items are untrue.

Yes at one wholesale supermarket occasionally an aisle is taped off and there's a forklift in operation.

And the forklift will disappear as quickly as it appeared.

    Life ain't perfect.

I will pass on your remarks to  my neighbour for when he goes shopping in his wheelchair

    Now you try a diversion.

I also use a (compact) wheelchair on some days when my back pain is severe, but I don't expect that life should be structured / re-arranged to suit me.

Are you expecting supermarkets should be set up / operated for every person / situation?

In fact when I do use my chair I can still easily do my shopping with little difficulty.
